Sharkpunk Saturday: Sharkpunk at Edge-Lit 4

Just a quick reminder that I shall be at Edge-Lit 4 today (Saturday 11th July 2015, from 10:00am) with copies of SHARKPUNK (not to mention YOU ARE THE HERO) in tow.

Indeed,  SHARKPUNK  is sponsoring the 5:15pn panel 'Short and Sweet – Writing and Selling Short Stories', featuring Andrew Hook, Kim Lakin-Smith ( SHARKPUNK  contributor), Alison Littlewood, and Gav Thorpe ( GAME OVER  contributor), with Adele Wearing chairing.

So if you're in Derby, or at the event already, please pop over and say "Hi!" and you can have one of my Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland  flyers to take away with you. (One free with every purchase!)

Gamebook Friday: And the artist who will be illustrating Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland is...

... the very talented, zombie wrangler...

Kev Crossley!
Kev will be best known to fans of Fighting Fantasy for illustrating the 30th anniversary FF gamebook, Ian Livingstone's Blood of the Zombies . However, he has also painted covers for 2000AD and is an accomplished nature artist.

If you want to know what Kev's artwork for Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland is going to be like, imagine, if you will, a cross between his Dark Fairies work, and his paintings of fungi (appropriately enough), with plenty of brass and rivets thrown in.

I am very excited about this collaboration, as is Kev, and you should be too. So, if you want to see Kev Crossley's take on the Caterpillar, or the Cheshire Cat, or a host of other famous Carroll characters, then back the Kickstarter today.

And remember, if you back at the £80 DODO level or above, you'll receive a signed, collector's edition hardback copy of the  Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland  gamebook, which will include Kev's sketchbook as well as his finished illustrations.

Kev Crossley
Just some examples of Kev's work. For more, follow this link.

Steampunk Thursday: Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland / Pax Britannia: White Rabbit

If you back Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland on Kickstarter at the £10 WHITE RABBIT level pledge or above, you will receive an eBook of the Pax Britannia novella White Rabbit* as part of your reward, courtesy of those thoroughly decent chaps at Abaddon Books - the home of Pax Britannia .

In White Rabbit, dandy, detective and adventurer Ulysses Quicksilver journeys into a world of madness and murder, meeting some sinisterly familiar characters along the way.

In other news, we've already passed the £4,000 mark on the  Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland  Kickstarter and are more than 50% funded.

So what are you waiting for? ;-)

* White Rabbit was first published with the novel Blood Royal (2010), and also appeared in The Ulysses Quicksilver Short Story Collection (2011).

Okay, it’s time to be accused of spam and spend every other minute checking my email. That’s right, I’m running another Kickstarter!

The ALICE'S NIGHTMARE IN WONDERLAND Kickstarter is into its third day and we are already a third of the way to achieving funding! Thank you once again to everyone who has backed the project, for pledging your support and (hopefully) telling everyone you know about it, on Facebook, Twitter, and beyond.A number of backers have asked me how they can pledge to receive multiple copies of the book, so here's my handy guide to upgrading your pledge.

Pledge at the £20 MARCH HARE level (or above) and simply add £15 to your pledge to receive a second copy of the paperback.

Pledge at the £30 CHESHIRE CAT level (or above) and add £25 to your pledge to receive a second copy of the limited edition hardback, or add £15 to receive a copy of the paperback as well, or even add £40 to receive one extra hardback and one paperback copy.

Pledge at the £50 WHITE KNIGHT level (or above) and add £40 to your pledge to receive a second signed hardback, add £25 to receive a copy of the unsigned hardback, or add £15 to receive a copy of the paperback. And if you really want to, add £80 to receive an additional signed hardback, one unsigned hardback and one paperback.

Pledge at the £100 QUEEN OF HEARTS level or above (or indeed at the £80 DODO level or above) and add £80 to your pledge to receive an additional premium, signed, collector's hardback (so that you can enjoy reading one and keep the other one in pristine condition for your collection) and an additional set of the art prints, add £40 to receive an additional normal signed hardback, add £25 to receive a copy of the unsigned hardback, or add £15 to receive a copy of the paperback. And if you want one of each book reward, add a total of £160 to your original pledge.

If you back the project at the £70 UNICORN pledge level (or above) you can purchase an additional set of art prints by adding £15 to your original pledge. And if you've not backed my new, Steampunk and Alice-inspired adventure gamebook project yet...

A Summer of Events

I'm going to be appearing at a number of events over the summer, either in my capacity as a writer and designer of gamebooks, or as an editor of short story anthologies, or as an author of Steampunk novels.

Saturday 11th July 2015
Edge-Lit 4
SHARKPUNK is sponsoring the 5:15pn panel 'Short and Sweet – Writing and Selling Short Stories', featuring Andrew Hook, Kim Lakin-Smith ( SHARKPUNK contributor), Alison Littlewood, and Gav Thorpe ( GAME OVER contributor), with Adele Wearing chairing.

Saturday 18th - Sunday 19th July 2015
London Film and Comic Con
I shall be appearing in the Book Zone, talking about  SHARKPUNK  and Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland .

Friday 9th August 2015
Nine Worlds Geekfest
I will be appearing as a guest at this year's Nine Worlds. More details to be revealed later...

Saturday 29th - Sunday 30th August 2015
Weekend at the Asylum VII
This will be my fourth stay at the asylum. I will be appearing at the Westgate Academy, which is home to the literature and gaming zones, and the other authors, publishers, games companies and gamers will also be based here. Admission is by wristband only, and there is going to be a mini street food festival in the grounds of the Academy.

And don't forget...

Ending at 1.00pm BST Monday 3rd August 2015
Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland on Kickstarter
If you've ever wondered what would have happened if Alice hadn’t drunk from the bottle labelled ‘Drink Me’, or if she hadn’t joined the Hatter, the March Hare, and the Dormouse for tea, now you can find out. In  Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland , rather than becoming Alice yourself, YOU guide Alice through the fluctuating dream world, deciding which route she should take, which perils to risk, and which of Wonderland’s strange denizens to fight. But be warned – whether Alice succeeds in her quest, or meets a dire end as the nightmare escalates, will be down to the choices YOU make. But remember, this book can't happen without YOU!

Gamebook Friday: Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland launches in 1 day's time!

Exactly 24 hours from now Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland launches on Kickstarter. The plan is to fund production of a brand new gamebook inspired by Lewis Carroll's legendary creation.

Among the rewards on offer to backers are various versions of the gamebook itself - including eBook, paperback, hardback, and special collector's edition hardback - but for the real hardcore gamebook fans out there, there is one suitably pricey add-on available to only the very lucky few...

Pledges start from £1 and £20 will secure you a physical copy of the book, along with some other rewards that will only be available to backers of the Kickstarter. To check out all the rewards on offer, check out the Kickstarter preview page, and I'll see you again in one day's time...
