Gamebook Friday: Continuing the Adventure with the Arkham Horror Investigators Gamebooks

One of the features of the Arkham Horror Investigators Gamebooks that makes them different from other gamebooks I have written, is that you can play through an adventure as multiple different Investigators; not just the different ones that appear in each book, but as any Investigator from any book, or any other source, including (to date) the Aconyte Books website and the Dark Horse comic The Terror at the End of Time.

But the gaming goodness doesn't end there. You can also play through multiple adventures with the same character and have them gain Experience which can then affect their stats - including their Abilities and Weaknesses - on a permanent basis.

You will find the rules for how to continue the adventure with one Investigator in this way in The Tides of Innsmouth, my latest Arkham Horror Investigators Gamebooks which is out now!

New Book Day: The Tides of Innsmouth

The Tides of Innsmouth, my second Arkham Horror Investigators Gamebook is published today by Aconyte Books.

The book actually went on sale for the first time at the UK Games Expo at the weekend, and had sold out by 11:00am on Saturday, which was amazing.

The reviews have also started to come in and they make very satisfying reading for the person who wrote the book.

Just as The Darkness Over Arkham had the profiles of three Investigators included within it - those for Agnes Baker the Waitress, Nathaniel Cho the Boxer, and Rex Murphy the Reporter - there are three new Investiator profiles in The Tides of Innsmouth - Silas Marsh the Sailor, Kōhaku Narukami the Folklorist, and Marion Tavares the Trawler.

However, you can also play the adventure using any of the Investigators from The Darkness Over Arkham, or those that appear on the Aconyte website, or even those that appeared in the Dark Horse comic, The Terror at the End of Time.

UK Games Expo 2025

I am at the UK Games Expo at the NEC all weekend, from Friday 30th May - Sunday 1st June 2025. You will find me at Stand 2-359 in Hall 2.

Gamebook Friday: Shakespeare Vs. Cthulhu

The crowdfunding campaign to fund Shakespeare Vs. Cthulhu: What Dreams May Come concluded one year ago today. Thanks to Stretch Goal #1 being unlocked during the campaign, everyone who has backed to receive a physical copy of the book will also receive a pack of five postcards featuring Heraldo Mussolini's artwork.
If you visit Shakespeare's Birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon, you can pick up postcards featuring extracts from the 1623 First Folio edition of Shakespeare's works enhanced by woodcut images printed from original blocks by  Louisa Hare .

I wanted to pay homage to the First Folio postcards in  Shakespeare Vs. Cthulhu: What Dreams May Come , and so Heraldo has produced a stylised woodcut illustration for each Act of the adventure, and it is these images that will be printed on the five postcards. Here's the one for Act 3 - Full Fathom Five.

Drácula, la maldición del Vampiro

The crowdfunding campaign to publish the Spanish translation of Dracula: Curse of the Vampire is well underway and has already surpassed its funding goal.

Two Stretch Goals have been unlocked so far, to produce some 'blood'-filled dice and a deck of foil playing cards.

The book hits all the right notes, the smells, the rot, the people, the darkness. This is the third Gamebook I have read by Jonathan Green, and I really enjoy how he sets up both the adventures, and has the writing chops to back it up. Highly recommended both for the tale, and the gameplay.

It is one year to the day since Shakespeare Vs. Cthulhu: What Dreams May Come funded on Kickstarter, but there's still time to place a Late Pledge - but only just!

I am making a few final tweaks to the manuscript, ready to start proofreading and renumbering next week. In the meantime, illustrator Heraldo Mussolini is working on producing the artwork for the book. Here are a couple of his finished illustrations.

Dragonmeet: Call To Adventure

Dragonmeet: Call To Adventure is a new event, arranged by the organisers of Dragonmeet, the City of Westminster, and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is taking place on Saturday 26th April 2025, at Kensington Town Hall, and it is completely FREE to attend!

As part of a year-long celebration of 10 years of ACE Gamebooks , I will be there, sharing Sir Ian Livingstone's stand in Solo Roleplaying Games and Interactive Gamebooks section.

Doors open at 10:00am and the event closes at 5:00pm. Maybe I'll see you there.
