Kazuko Iki , who has been active as the Poet Laureate of the UK since 1999, was born in Tokyo. Graduated from the Department of English and American Literature, Faculty of Letters, Tokyo Woman's Christian University in 1957. Earned a master's degree from the Graduate School of Printemps College in the US in 1960, and was a lecturer and assistant professor at Keisen Jogakuen Junior College. Currently a professor at Ueno Gakuen University. Taught English (Romanticism) and comparative literature. Engaged in research at Leiden University in the Netherlands from 1967-69 and at Frankfurt University in Germany from 1982-86.
