Happy Ever After

Phantom Riders MC - Hawk made the Smashwords Hotlist!

Happy Ever After and Smashwords have teamed up to bring HEA readers the week’s bestselling indie romance e-books. Did you know that Smashwords is the world’s largest distributor of indie e-books? Now, I know that Phantom Riders has been out since March 2016 but I've since released two other books in the trilogy. I'm guessing that readers who might have read book 2  No Mercy, and then saw book 3 What He Wants coming out, went back to purchase the first book in the trilogy. Makes sense, huh?

I didn't know Phantom Riders MC - Hawk was going to turn into a trilogy until I was way into No Mercy. Sometimes a character generates interest with readers enough that they'll write me, such was the case with the VP of Phantom Riders, Rock. However, once I'd finished No Mercy Big John, the club enforcer, just would not get out of my head. I'd even begun a different book, only to have to put it on the back burner and write Big John's story. For the first time I realized what it was like to have a character demand his story. lol

These books are standalone romances that are available in ebook and print.

Friday Freebie!

Go here!
A senator arranges for his daughter, Sophie to be kidnapped on the eve of her wedding. She turns out to be more trouble than her abductor, Brent, anticipated. Spirited and resourceful, he has his hands full. In the meantime, their intense attraction to each other only adds further complications.

Excerpt
“I’ll remove my hand, if you promise…”

Brent shouldn’t have reminded her about his hand. The next thing he knew she was biting down on it a second time. Adding insult to injury, she shoved him in the chest as hard as she could at the same time, catching him unaware. Before he had a chance to recover she took advantage of the moment by pushing herself away from the wall and taking flight.

“Damn it!” Brent grunted in anger. She managed to descend one step before he tangled a hand in her hair and hauled her back into his arms. A cry escaped her but Brent ignored it. He yanked her roughly against him. “Bite me again and you’ll find out what it feels like,” he muttered between his teeth.

“Who are you?” she asked softly. Brent felt her slight tremble and steeled himself for what he had to do. “What do you want?”

“One question at a time, princess.” Brent realized he had to assert his dominance early on if he wanted to remain in control of the situation. Not giving much thought to the consequences, he pushed Sophie up against the concrete wall and leaned in close, threatening her with his superior strength and size.

His actions had repercussions he wasn’t anticipating though. Like the rush of heat surging through his blood, turning the victim in his arms into a desirable woman. Wrestling with her provided conditions he hadn’t counted on. Appealing circumstances which could easily upset the scheme of things if he let it.

Too much body contact for one.

“I demand you keep your hands to yourself!” she whispered sharply.

“Do you now?” he said softly, amused at her haughty tone. “You’re not in any position to demand anything.” With every breath Brent took, he could smell her. Beyond the light scent of soap and perfume, to the sensuous woman beneath. A sexy combination of innocence and know-how. It was playing havoc with his senses, preventing him from keeping a clear head. He swore beneath his breath. Nothing good was going to come of this.

She was tall like he liked his women but he wasn’t into rich, spoiled, society types who held themselves above others, thinking they were better than everyone else. He’d watched Sophie long enough to know she was used to the best in life and probably demanded it. A woman who let society rule her emotions, not her heart. He recalled her quiet, almost suffering acceptance of Lord touching and kissing her, putting up with it because it was expected of her and not because she’d liked it. That action alone told him a lot about her.

She was probably as cold as a block of ice in bed.

“I demand you tell me who you are and what this is all about,” she said in a frigid tone, confirming his thoughts.

Her snooty tone grated on his nerves. “Demand all you want, princess, it won’t get you anywhere.” He was glad she’d broken his train of thought. He could care less what she was like in bed and would do well to remember that. What’s more, he doubted her father would appreciate his wayward notions. Brent respected and liked Senator Adams. It was because of that reason alone he was doing this in the first place.

This, meaning kidnapping. So far Sophie was more trouble than he’d anticipated which could cause serious problems down the road. He’d have to watch her like a hawk. It hadn’t taken her long to get the drop on Tom. Well, she’d learn soon enough that he wasn’t a pushover. “Come on.” He yanked her away from the wall.

“Let me go!” She tried to pull free. “Ouch! You’re hurting me! I’m not going anywhere with you!”

Brent swung around and pulled her up against him. “You have a choice, lady; you can come with me the easy way, or like a sack of potatoes over my shoulder."

 Excerpt:
Amanda’s First Experience with an Art Model
By A.C. Rose ©2017
I was in the front row of the class in my usual seat, when a gorgeous, robed man walked into the art classroom, stood on a small platform, untied the sash to his robe and let it fall on the floor. He was naked.
Turning to take an innocent glance at the model, I nearly gasped out loud when I found myself eyeball to eyeball with his penis. He seemed so unashamed, so unaffected, as he stood there gazing out at all who studied his naked form.
I looked at my friend Tara and she looked at me. It was the tenth week of the semester in our Basic Art course, but we had no clue what was going on until the professor stepped in front of the room.
“Today we’ll be working with a live nude model so we can learn to translate the human form to paper,” he announced. “We’ll be working with charcoal, so remember, we’re looking for the essence of the human body—the shape, not details.”
With that, Professor Jem Nichols passed around the box of charcoal crayons and handed out huge sheets of drawing paper. As he got closer to me, a rush of warmth flowed through my body and ended in a nervous tingle in my stomach.
Maybe it was wishful thinking, but when he reached my desk to distribute the supplies, I could swear his hand lingered an extra moment near mine as I claimed my two pieces of charcoal from the box. And that he looked at me a certain way.
When he moved on to the next student, I breathed a sigh of relief, only because I worried my physical reactions to his presence would reveal I had a crush—a big one—on my teacher.

Solo by Lauren E. Rico

Solo
by Lauren E. Rico
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Contemporary New Adult Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:
When graduate student Katherine Brenner walked into my class, I couldn’t stand her—all perfect skin and big, blue eyes—just like the woman who broke my heart.
 If it wasn’t for that blizzard, if her car hadn’t broken down outside my house, if she hadn’t looked amazing by the firelight, I never would have kissed her. No matter how hard I try, every excuse I make not to see her comes up flat.
 I can’t stop thinking of her lips. Or the way her curves fit perfectly in my hands. There’s a million reasons why this won’t work. I’m her professor. It’s against university policy.
And if this gets out, I could lose everything.
 ~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
I’m melting into him. For the first time, I’m not fighting against Drew Markham. I’m moving toward him, with him. It happens slowly for the first few seconds as we’re hesitant in our actions and unsure of one another’s intentions. But somewhere within those inches we both draw the same conclusion. I lurch toward him and he catches me in his arms, both of us falling backward onto the couch. Our lips connect with a ferocity that is jarring.
 My hands are under his shirt, feeling the smooth plane of his back, absorbing his warmth through my skin. We’re both gasping and panting, pushing and pulling. And then he stops. I nearly fall off the couch when I no longer have the resistance of his body to push against. I pull back and look up at him, confused.
“W-what? What is it?”
His eyes are closed and he’s shaking his head. His face is a mask of regret.
“Drew?
 “I can’t. I’m sorry, Katherine. You…me…”
 He gestures toward the four empty bottles of wine on the coffee table. “We’ve both had way too much. You’re still not a hundred percent well. I’m your professor. You’re my student. There are a million different reasons why we need to stop this. Why I need to stop this. Right now. Right. Now.
I take a deep breath and extricate myself from what’s left of his embrace.
“I don’t know where that came from,” he’s muttering, more to himself, than to me. “What’s wrong with me? I know better.”
 With a sigh, I wonder the same thing about myself. We hate one another. Don’t we? Apparently not. But even I, with my limited knowledge of psychology, recognize that there’s a very fine line between love and hate. Not that I love him or anything. But I certainly wouldn’t mind another one of those kisses.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
   Lauren Rico was going to be principal French horn of the New York Philharmonic. That was HER plan, anyway. The New York Philharmonic had no idea of her intentions, and that's probably a good thing, since she wasn't an especially good French horn player!
 Lauren was, however, an exceptionally good classical music radio host. Calling herself a "Classical Music Reanimator," she has made a career of demystify classical music for her audiences by taking it off a dusty old pedestal and putting it into a modern context.
 It's only been over the last couple of years that Lauren has discovered a passion for writing, which she's managed to combine with her love and knowledge of the classical music world.
You can hear Lauren Rico on SiriusXM's Symphony Hall Channel; on WQXR and WSHU-FM in the New York City metro; WSMR in Tampa/Sarasota, FL; WDAV in Charlotte, NC and KMFA in Austin, TX
