Discussion post: On Agents who Tweet Queries.

So, I'm posting this knowing it could very likely blow up in my face. But I think its a worthwhile discussion. This blog does allow anonymous comments, and you're free to post that way. While I was chatting with the Southern California Writer's group a week(ish) ago, I was talking about the sorts of questions you should ask and the things you should talk about when an agent calls you to offer representation.

One of the things I said that I, as an agent, will ask while we're on the phone is: What kind of career do you want?

Someone raised their hand and said something to the effect of, "Uh, what? What does that mean?'

I suppose it might seem odd. The answer is: you just want a...

MOCKINGJAY review

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER. Don't click the cut-tag unless you've read it.

First up: Suzanne Collins is an unparalelled genius. Out of five stars, I give it 5 zillion. Just saying. I actually feel like I should not call myself an author because, wow. I finished it last night at 10, and tossed and turned ALL NIGHT. And I am one of those people who puts her head on a pillow and wakes up 9 hours later when the alarm goes off. But last night,  I had dream after dream of fighting the capital.

I loved...

WHOA.

HOLY CRAP.

I just saw this trailer. My first thought was:

A) WHEN DOES THIS MOVIE COME OUT BECUASE I MUST SEE IT NOOOOOOW.
and
B) Why have I not read this book yet?

Help me (Help you?) [COMING TO CALIFORNIA NEXT WEEK!]

First off-- A week from Tomorrow, Saturday, the 21st, I'll be in Fountain Valley, California (just south of Los Angeles!) speaking to the SCWA group. NON-Members are welcome! It's about $30 (DETAILS HERE) and you get to listen to me ramble for an hour, have a yummy lunch, and then listen to me for another hour. Exciting, right? (Uh, that remains to be seen.)

My talk is titled: KEEP ON TRUCKIN', and will focus on three aspects of the road to publication:
1)Inspiring you to stick with the road, ...

RIPPLE Cover...

La, La, La.... Oh look! I have the shiny new cover of RIPPLE!

I cannot tell you how impressed/amazed/grateful I am for the folks at Razorbill, who were kind enough to allow me to have extensive input on the direction of this cover. It is really rare for a publisher to truly consider your input, and I will be forever thankful they gave me that opportunity, becuase i LOOOOOOVE This cover.

SO, without further ado, here it is:
Photobucket

And in case you don't know, here's a rough blurb:

Eighteen year old...

You Wish available today!!!

YAYYYYY!!!  YOU WISH is in stores nationwide today!! (I hear it hits Canada on Tuesday).

It should be in most Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Books-a-million stores, as well as your local indie. If you don't see it, make sure to ask-- many stores are slow to unpack.

Kayla McHenry's sweet sixteen sucks! Her dad left, her grades dropped, and her BFF is dating the boy Kayla's secretly loved for years. Blowing out her candles, Kayla thinks: I wish my birthday wishes actually came true. Because they...

YOU WISH-- The Setting

YOU WISH comes out in 8 days, so I thought I'd do a fun blog series with facts and trivia about the book. Today: The Setting.

Unlike a the fictional, 1815 setting of PRADA & PREJUDICE (Harksbury was a dukedom I made up, cus that's how I roll), YOU WISH takes place in a real town.

My town. Enumclaw, Washington:

When one thinks of Enumclaw, they think of this:

Dairy Farms. The one pictured here is the one I grew up on. The white peak in the distance? Mt. Rainier. Enumclaw is a plateau, created by t...
