Tired of Rejection?
Don't forget! You can bid RIGHT NOW on an in-depth manuscript critique (including a query letter!) by visiting this post.
If you're tired of the rejections, let me analyze your book and help figure out the issues! As a multi-published author and an intern for a well-known literary agency, I've seen things from both sides of the desk. Plus, the funds go to a good cause-- breast cancer research!

Happy Release Day, Kristin!

Go by this book. NOW. I'll wait. Then go buy one of those clicker counting thingies. You'll need one to keep track of how many times you laugh.
I laughed at least 6 times.
In the first chapter.
Seriously. I have never, ever, ever, laughed aloud so many times.
And I don't re-read books. But this one I read as an ARC over a year ago and I'm going to buy a copy and read it.
Seriously, guys, you WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED.

BID NOW for a manuscript critique!
WHAT: An in depth critique of your full manuscript, including a query letter. If your manuscript just needs a line edit, great! I'll help you polish. If the problems are more over-arcing, I'll discuss what's working and what isn't, whether its your hook, your characters, your pace, etc. We'll give extra focus to your first ten pages, which is often included in a query, so that you can better your chances for full requests.
WHY: To benefit fellow writer Tara's fundraising efforts for breast c...

Random PRADA & PREJUDICE factoids

*Did you know that the heels on my cover were black in real life? My publisher really wanted red heels-- partly due to the symbolic nature of Ruby Red Slippers. So they photoshopped them red.
*Also: They aren't PRADA brand.
*The heels I originally wrote into the book looked nothing like the ones on the cover. I had to change the description to match. They actually looked like this:

*While the red heels may not exist, the PRADA store does. I used Goog...

Announcing: Auction of a manuscript critique!
Hi Everyone!
I have what I hope is good news. This post is to announce an auction that will be starting on this blog on February first. It will be for an in-depth critique of a full manuscript, plus a query letter.
100% of your bid will be going toward fundraising efforts for the Susan G. Komen 3-day Breast Cancer Walk in Seattle later this year. A good friend of mine, Tara, (known here as divawriter ) is participating in this walk, and has a fundraising goal of $2300.
Tara is a truly...

In which Mandy posts her 2010 Goals...
I'm not big on resolutions. Resolutions seem scary. Like you have to agree to change yourself. Forever.
But I've done goals on this blog every January for the last few years, and it seems like it kind of works. And it's also kind of fun. A snapshot in the moment. The time I dreamt of what the next year would bring.
So here goes nothing. This is how I'd like to see 2010 go:
Things I can Control:
1) Meet all deadlines.
2) Write and turn in the 2nd book for Flux, which is totally TBD right now, bu...

Shattered revisions, or, the things Mandy mumbles to herself
See, there are no chapter numbers in the whole book. Just labels of how long Ann has been with Connor-- and the time gets shorter, of course, not longer, becuase it's told in reverse chronological order. So the first chapter says "One Year" and the nedt "Eleven months, fifteen days" and after that "Eleven Months, two days", etc.
My editor suggested I keep it like that, but als...

2009 Goal Check-in / Recap
It's that time of year! Time to look back on 2009. I just looked up the goals I posted last January:
THINGS I CAN CONTROL:
1)Meet all deadlines! Whew. The deadlines definitely ended up being more intense than I had expected, but I kept up!
2) Complete Book 2 for razorbill (including all edits) Yay! At the time I made the goal, I didn't even know what the book would be. It's now known as YOU WISH-- coming August 5, 2010!
3) Complete my nascar harlequin book CHECK!
4) Increase online...

RIPPLE teaser
“Awesome. So, Troy should go first, because your position is naturally a defensive one…”
Rihanna keeps talking, but her voice becomes little more than a hum in my ears.
