 Pravin Gordhan's 2012  Budget

South African Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan looks set to announce another chunky deficit at this week's budget, putting big infrastructure upgrades and the needs of the jobless ahead of bond-holders' preference to see cuts in state spending.

Piet Mulder's interpretation of Southern African history

According to Piet Mulder (deputy minister of agriculture, forestry and fisheries and leader of the Freedom Front Plus) AFRICANS cannot lay claim to land in the Western Cape and Northern Cape because they are not original inhabitants of this land. Africans did not have a legal and historic claim to up to 40% of South Africa's land because they migrated from northern parts of Africa. He said this was based on a soon-to-be released book by two experts who tracked the land issue from as far back as the 1600s. What Piet Mulder has not said is that it was the 1913 Native Land Act, which dispossessed Africans of their property and apportioned 83% of land to whites.

Obituary to Whitney Houston

And I will always love you....

Whitney Houston 1963 - 2012

Stars, family and friends mourned Whitney Houston in a spirited Baptist funeral service at her hometown church on Saturday, a week after the death of the singer whose spectacular voice made her one of the biggest pop stars of her era.

Gospel and soul music greats, celebrities and family members swayed to gospel hits and delivered tributes both sung and spoken to the crowded New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, where Houston honed her wide vocal range as a young choral singer with her mother Cissy Houston, a backup singer for Aretha Franklin.

Due process take it slow! - Is this the end of Julius Malema?

ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema’s political career has been dealt a near fatal blow. The ANC’s national disciplinary committee for appeals confirmed all of the guilty verdicts, except for the one related to the appellants barging into a meeting of the top brass. But, in a fascinating twist, the NDCA also decided that it would throw back the case to the NDC to consider arguments in mitigation – and aggravation – before imposing a final set of penalties to go with the confirmed guilty verdicts.
