Destination
On the one hand, I am operating rather more with a calendar. The things that happen with Tuirgeis, Éire's Devil King, happened in reality, providing a frame and timeline for many events in the story. Some accounts differ as to years, but years are iffy in the 9th Century, anyway.
On the other hand, I have to have a destination. A place beyond the climax of the book. A goal that will end this trilogy on a note that suits me. A place that is beyond the historical accounts.
And I have to have this place set in my mind before I can begin writing. It is always this way, for me. There are many ways to approach the craft of writing a novel, but for me, I have to have an end before I can properly get to my beginning. I need that finished product in my imagination so that every chapter and every scene and even pieces of dialogue will work the reader to that point.
It's a delight to plan, let me tell you.
I approached the Spousal Unit last night with my current dilemma and he let me talk it out to him. I think he's read the first book, but I'm not sure - still these are characters he's been hearing about for about ten years, lol, so they're old friends. He listened and nodded and when I had finished, he gave me some thoughts.
I liked them.
Will I use them? I am not entirely certain, but his ideas gave me a place to think on, as I peruse more historical notes. I will have that destination soon, though.
I can practically see it.

Sweetheart Scavenger Hunt
Valentine's Day has long been considered a Greeting Card occasion. Something created so you can buy a card and candy for someone. But at The Writer's Coffee Shop, we'd like to give something to you, instead!
Seven authors from TWCS have contributed to an anthology, Romantic Interludes. Each story is romantic with a guaranteed Happily Ever After. What we're going to do is host a Scavenger Hunt for our readers and followers to win a prize.
Beginning on January 25th and going through February 14th, each of the following authors will have a candy heart hidden somewhere on their website.
What you have to do is find all of candy hearts (there are seven), put them together for a romantic quote to solve the puzzle, and then you'll use that quote as one of the entries into the drawing.
My story is "Justin's Second Chance". Do you love a man in uniform? I fell in love with one, myself! I'll be introducing Justin to you soon!

Wait, there's more!
My editorial team sent me fantastic notes and suggestions and I spent this week working on them. Since the novel takes place in Southwest Florida during the spring and summer, it may not surprise you to hear that tropical storms do play a role in the story.
Which is why I was smiling a little as I finished my work today. Hurricanes seem to follow me around, you know? And this one has my name on it. Sort of.
I hope that if you are in my quasi-namesake's path, that you are safe and sheltered in the coming days.
Until next time,
~Sandi
