Putting the S-O-C-I-A-L into Social Media

It all started with Kassia Krozser who as booksquare on Twitter said:

booksquare: oh, authors, please stop spamming me (and others) by "recommending" your books on twitter. it's self-promo at its worst.

Those of us who circulate in the romance genre's online community have seen an uptick in Twitter and Facebook followers coinciding with authors returning from the RWA national conference. I'm going to hazard a guess that there were a lot of workshops on using social media for promotion...

Vacation: Day One

Last week, @Cuppacafe and I took an impromptu vacation. His boss was out of the country for the week, leaving him with nothing pressing to do – even though FIVE co-workers called, texted, or emailed him while he was out of the office. Being an oilman, he was interested in seeing the Gulf Coast beaches and water for himself, so we headed out on Tuesday, not sure where we were going. The first two or three hours, from Texas into Louisiana, was a rather unpleasant experience. At one point on...

Another book now available digitally!

Mother, Please! by Alison Kent, Jill Shalvis, Brenda Novak Avery Rice is way too overprotective of her widowed mother.

So when Mom gets a new man in her life, she enlists her cute tenant, David Marks, to keep Avery off the trail.

And of course she's matchmaking. She's Mom!

I've been away the last week on an impromptu vacation, and will share more of that this week, but thought I'd mention my 2004 Harlequin Mothers Day anthology is now available for the Kindle.

A Reader's Look at RomCon 2010 & Giveaway!

During the weekend of RomCon, reader Ali Flores, known as SimplyAli on Twitter, tweeted several times from the convention floor, and I sent her a DM to ask if she'd like to do a blog post when she got back . . . and here it is! With a giveaway!

**********

A week after RomCon and I think I've finally got my energy back. It always takes me a bit to get things back to normal after a convention. And, what a convention this was! I was so excited to attend RomCon's first convention in Denver...

Creative Recovery via The Artist's Way

The Artist's Way Julia CameronI'm going to start The Artist's Way tomorrow. From the introduction to the 10th Anniversary Edition (which I'm reading tonight):

"Difficult as it is to remember, it is our work that creates the market, not the market that creates our work.

I'm also reading the Basic Tools (which you can download here in a pdf) and the Basic Principles.

There are two pivotal tools in creative recovery: the morning pages and the artist date. A lasting creative awakening requires the consistent use of both. I like...

True Vows at RomCon

HCI True VowsHCI, the publisher of the new True Vows line had a great presence this past weekend in Denver at RomCon. Cupcakes were involved, as were gorgeous gift baskets put together by Series Developer, Olivia Rupprecht. Author Judith Arnold (Meet Me In Manhattan, 09/10) and author Cindi Myers were on hand with Olivia and True Vows Series Creator (and HCI Editorial Director) Michele Mastrisciani. From all accounts, the cupcakes were a hit, the baskets coveted, and the ARCs scarfed up by readers! Hard t...
