The protagonist gasped as the knife plunged into their gut and twisted.
“I’m sorry,” the demon said, cradling them close. Keeping them up as the pain made their legs go slack. “But this is the only way. Bodies are so fragile, so easily hurt. I can’t see you hurt.”
You’re killing me. They couldn’t quite find the air to say it through the shock. “Hurts.”
“Just for a moment, baby. Then your spirit will be free.”
Mad. They were completely mad - the protagonist stared at them in numb, wide-eyed horror.
