No word metrics today – yes, I know. Giant loser, yours truly. But in my defense, I cleaned up and finally sent off that short piece I drafted last weekend, and so far the editor seems pleased. One more editorial review before it's accepted and official, though. I'll update with details as soon as I can talk about it.
Also preventing me from fresh composition – today I spent some time on the phone with the Nashville Public Library, which was awesome. We talked steampunk, Seattle, video...

I um… don't have any word metrics to post. I took the afternoon off and went to Ballard for lunch and shenanigans with Kat; and no, this was not the most RESPONSIBLE use of my time given my hideous looming deadline, but I'm very glad I did it. Once in awhile, you need an afternoon off. You know?
Here. Have a kitty video.

Two more quick things
Boneshaker made the cover of Scholastic's Teen Readers book club – Huzzah! And many thanks to Scott Westerfeld, for passing the heads-up along. I knew there was a Scholastic version of the book (it went out in the last printing, I believe), but this is the first I've seen it referenced in the wild. (I don't know if the editions are markedly different. I haven't seen them side by side to compare.)

Publishers Weekly weighs in on Dreadnought:
[Starred Review :] Dreadnought
Cherie Priest, Tor, $14.99 paper (480p) ISBN 978-0-7653-2578-5
An intimate, well-crafted portrait of a nurse on a mission adds depth to this exceptional Civil War steampunk thriller, the self-contained sequel to 2009's Locus Award-winning Boneshaker. Mercy Lynch, recently widowed and taxed to exhaustion by caring for Confederate wounded in Richmond, must cross the war-torn nation to reach her estranged father, who lies d...
PlunderZOO
So my awesome friend San has an awesome dog named Hanzo. Hanzo is a rescued pit bull puppy (well, he's a year old now), and he needs surgery, but don't worry — he's going to get that surgery one way or another. So this isn't one of those OMG SEND MONIES FOR THIS PUPPEE OR IT WILL BE DIE posts.
Instead, this post is a testament to San's capacity for truly clever shit. For you see, using only his wits, his art supplies, and a dash of code, he's created the PlunderZoo – an art...

Today I took a very brief break from Ganymede, because I owe a short piece to a very nice editor by the middle of next month – but I promised it early, for the sake of everyone's sanity. Really, I want to get it out of the way before DragonCon … so it's one less thing on my plate to worry about while I'm in Atlanta.
I'll leave the editor and the project unnamed for the moment, until things are official and accepted and whatnot. But I promised this short (it's a short story, yes, but not in...
