Meet the Cast of MPT – Sarah Jones

In only a few short months, Novelists in November will be published. My story in this book is called Melting-Pot Thanksgiving (MPT), and I can hardly wait for you to be able to read this story that features themes of embracing family, struggling through dysfunction, and cherishing one’s culture.

Over the next month or so, I’ll introduce you to the various characters of MPT in “Meet the Cast of MPT” articles.

Today, let’s meet leading lady Sarah Jones.

Sarah is a devoted foster mom wh...

Shifting Gears

This is the last week of a Year of Springtime in Surrey blog tour. Visit Kellyn Roth’s blog for more details about the tour and giveaway.

For me, this week signifies a changing of the guard, a shifting of gears. The thing is, shifting gears from The Cottage on the Hill was anything but easy for me.

You see, I fell so completely in love with this sweet romance of a story that I couldn’t get it out of my head. More than that, it had infused itself into the fabric of my being. Separating i...

Ask Me Anything — The Cottage on the Hill

Can you believe Springtime in Surrey has already been out a year?

Visit Kellyn Roth’s blog for more details about the tour and giveaway.

Friends, The Cottage on the Hill, my story in Surrey, was such fun to write. I got lost in the sweet romance of it–so much so that it was difficult for me to find my rhythm on the next story I wrote, which will come out in November (check out the preorder information below). Adrian and Moira’s story still resonates with me today, and I hope it does with yo...

A Fun, Fun, Fun Celebration

July 3, 2024, was a childhood dream come true for me.

When I was little, I first saw the Beach Boys on Full House and Home Improvement. Hearing them sing on the shows was spectacular, and I thought it would be really neat to hear them and see them in person.

The Sherman Parks & Recreation’s Lights on the Lake event this year featured the Beach Boys with Mike Love. His son Christian sang with the band too. It was such a cool thing to see father and son hanging out and singing to...

Deadline Music + WIF Camp Registration

I’m on the tail end of an editing deadline at the moment, so my TV is off and my music is on. But it’s not just any music. It’s deadline music.

What is deadline music?

It’s a playlist I’ve created that features songs with few or no lyrics. This type of music helps me focus through my ADD. The few songs with some lyrics signal to me that it’s time for a stretch or meal break. And then there are other chunks of songs with no lyrics so I can refocus and cruise through more pages of editing wo...

Celebrating Dads

Happy Father’s Day, friends! I hope you get to spend the day with your dad. I’ll be taking a break from editing work that day, so I can hang out with my daddy.

Today, let’s take a look at a few of my favorite movie dads in honor of the holiday.

Note: Some of these movies have content that might not be suitable for all audiences. Viewer discretion is advised.

#1 George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life

George Bailey (portrayed by James Stewart) loves his family, but he’s frustrate...

Research Makes or Breaks Contemporary Fiction

“I write contemporary fiction, so I don’t have to research.”

Friends, that is not a true statement, yet it’s one I hear often from writers of contemporary fiction. While there is much more research needed for historical fiction, research also makes or breaks contemporary fiction. Readers tend to sense when things aren’t written factually; in today’s day and age, it takes mere minutes to double-check a book’s facts with a simple online search, which can leave readers frustrated and wondering w...
