Soiled

(written July 2025)

When tears of sorrow escape from eyes,
the earth cries, too.
It’s once fertile soil, now stained
red with blood shed.
No amount of tears will erase the
scars.
Man’s inhumanity to man, without
justifiable reason.
We cannot say they know not what they do.
Each weapon, whether words
or a gun, leaves a mark on
the fabric of life, depriving it of love.
Until we, too, become soiled.
The collateral damage of wars that do not belong to us.

Pools of Regret

(written July 2025)

When throats fail to open, heaviness settles
in the silence.
Words float upon a formation of clouds.
Thunder roars in dismay as it breaks the sky.
Rain pours in torrents, but nothing rushes
from hushed mouths
where so much remains unsaid.
And when the storm passes, all that is
left are the cracks in the
pavements, filled with pools of regret.

Never Buy Me Flowers

(written July 2025)

Never buy me flowers, I have witnessed enough of death
as it rattles.
Although as inevitable as every circle that ends,
I would rather not see any living thing draw its
last breath, or worse, a slow decay.
Buy me a plant so I can watch the Earth give birth.
For every tiny shoot that emerges from
the darkness of its soil brings hope for a better tomorrow.
And with hope comes renewed strength
as we, too, break free of any overhanging
branches that cast shadows on our days.

Unapologetic

(written June 2025)

If freedom is a bird, allow me to fly.

Never clip my wings.

Within a cage, my soul cannot sing.

Never place a label on my skin or force me

into a box that I do not fit.

The burden of your expectations would kill me.

I was not born with shackles on my feet.

Why, then, must society constrain me?

With weighty opinions of how to live my life.

Let me speak freely lest I choke on the emotions that

rise in my throat.

Never question who I am because you don’t understand.

I need no permission or validation.

I am who I am, unapologetically.

Aftermath

written in response to Sadje’s #Whatdoyousee

In the aftermath
only a windmill remained,
turning silently.

Speckled

(written June 2025)

Speckles of grey form.
Clouds crack open to signal
tears from the sky, rain.

Free your Mind

(written June 2025)

Far removed from any clouds.
I often think out loud.
Thoughts need air to breathe.
Within the mind, there are too many wires.
Lines of spaghetti mixed, each one clamouring for
attention.
How can I think straight when they
jostle as if commuters waiting to board a train?
Demanding I stop at every station.
Not every thought requires direction.
Situations that have already passed, I cannot change.
Oxygenated thoughts either float away or linger.
The ones that linger often sting.
The mind can be a minefield hellbent on detonation.
With time and lessons, we learn what to swipe or keep.
But only if we set it free.
