The Crown on Your Head

[image error]When my daughter was young, I remember telling all of her friends that they each had a crown they were born with…and that no one could take it off.   I used to give her friends little silver crowns for their charm bracelets to remind them of this.  The book evolved from that experience.

Wherever You Are

[image error]As a parent, I know that it’s absolutely true that my love follows my children everywhere they go.  I have no doubt you feel the same way!   I wanted love to take shape in this book, so that your children could see it.  I also wanted to paint children in wide open spaces that they don’t often have access to in these current times.  And, as long as I was doing that… why not have them ride a hippo… or jump on the trampoline with a kangaroo?

The Spirit of Christmas

[image error]I created The Spirit of Christmas to celebrate all the moments we enjoy during the holidays, but to especially remember that the season is about love! I have wonderful memories of dancing around the Christmas tree with my family… those are the memories that mean the most to me at Christmastime.

I also wanted to create a bit of fun for children by hiding the Spirit of Christmas on every page for them to find!

It’s Time to Sleep

I hadn’t planned to illustrate for another author, but when my agent called and read me Eric Metaxas’ breathtaking poem, It’s Time to Sleep, My Love, illustrations began dancing in my brain.  I love this sleepytime book and hope it will comfort and lull children to sleep for generations to come.

Insight On The Night You Were Born

My children are the greatest joys of my life.  They are a wonder to me in their

uniqueness, and in their immeasurable value.

I created On the Night You Were Born to convey to children everywhere that the same can be said of each one of them.

Beautiful child, there never has been, and never will be, anyone like you in the world..ever!

You Are Loved

As we go through our days there are so many ways we can make an extraordinary difference in someone’s life.  We have the ability to change someone’s day or even entire outlook on life. By taking the time everyday to convey the message to another person “You are loved” you can change the world!

Of course we tell our children every day that we love them, right?  Have you ever missed a day?  We think it almost constantly, but do we say it? Do we show it?  Children are needy little people that require a constant reminder that they are loved in this crazy world. Parents have to work, take care of the house, the other children, etc. and from time to time the message can be lost in that we haven’t had the chance to say it.

We must say it and show it every day. We should even share the message with strangers. We can use it as a therapy for when we may not understand the actions of another. In traffic, for instance, try to remember that someone really does love whomever is driving, even though that person may not be a very good driver!  Give them a smile.  You’ll be surprised what it can accomplish.

Welcome

Welcome to my new blog. I will make posts with fair regularity. Your participation would warm my heart! I want you to be involved, comment and even submit your guest posts if you are interested. This blog is all about the ways we tell the important people in our lives that they are loved.

There will be no set format as to how the blog will be written. If there is a certain topic that we are posting on we will likely be doing a series. We will also post outside the series and have a post about life in general. I want to write about things that are important to you. So please feel free to subscribe to my posts, add my Facebook page to your interests, check out my Twitter, friendfeed, Flickr and more for photos, stories and input from people just like you, and never forget “You Are Loved”.

Tumford & On The Night You Were Born Made The Top 100 List!

I am so proud to announce that Tumford the Terrible and On The Night You Were Born both made the The Children’s Book Guide’s Top 100 Children’s Books of All-Time!

You can read more about that list here. I really am in good company with Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle and so many other authors of children’s books that we have grown up with as staples in our homes that we read to our children everyday.

On the Night You Were Born

So begins the enchanting tale On the Night You Were Born. Geese fly home to celebrate. Polar bears dance. The whole world comes alive with thanksgiving. Before the tale ends children will be wiggling their toes and whispering their names in joyous celebration of their own unique wonder.
