The Paws Claus

Introducing my first children’s book, including full color graphics, The Paws Claus. This is the first of a Holiday Series. Allow your child to read the experiences of Spooky and Boo as they learn about the holidays and enjoy for the first time.

As all kittens, they are mischievous and often funny.  For an original touch, I’ve included coloring pages depicting the characters. These are found in the last chapter of the hardback and paperback.

The Paws Claus, Holiday Series. Book 1 The Great Star

Spooky and Boo are 6 week old kittens who live happily with their mama and Lily. The only hook in their fish is Old Man Groush. Mama tries to explain why Groush is the way he is and why they must behave. She has her paws full keeping the kits out of his way.

The playful and inquisitive kittens do try to be good for Mama and Lily. Not only is Old Man Groush’s anger faster than the speed of light, the tiniest things can set his jets into orbit.

Something happens which leaves the kitten frightened and alone on Christmas Eve. Soon they meet an alleycat who reluctantly invites them to stay the night with him until they figure out what to do.

Tethered Twins, Free offer for an eBook by Mike Essex

I thought some of my readers might like to take advantage of this offer, and in the process help out a fellow author increase his ratings.

Hi Renee,

I hope you are well and if you have one second free today I’d love your help with a quick experiment.

I’m giving away copies of my novel, Tethered Twins, free to everyone for the next five days in an attempt to see what it takes to make a product go viral. Anyone can grab a copy right now at http://amzn.to/1boKS0X (UK) or http://amzn.to/1gh6zrX (US and Rest of World).

Even if you don’t have a Kindle, apps are available for most smartphones, tablets and computers from the Amazon site and every free download actually helps more people discover the book.

I’ve also written a post to promote the experiment and explain a little bit more about why I’m doing it. You can find it here.

It would be fantastic if you could share this post to let others know what I’m up to and download a copy of the book to help it rise up the Amazon charts. I’ll be documenting everything that happens and including a dedication in my next book for everyone who lets me know they helped.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Mike Essex

If I Were Your Angel

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/I’m+your+guardian+angel.jpg

If I were an angel

With my wings, I would sweep

All the moon’s dust

And stars I would reap

My wings would start to flutter

The dust would begin to fall

Atop of my loved ones

Gently covering all

If I could bring you smiles

Inside of a jar

Covered in moon dust

Filled with some stars

All my clouds would have rainbows

Silver linings galore

Time would be kind

And you, adored

Clear skies overhead

Not a cloud in sight

A jarful of blessings

And peaceful nights

*

My time on earth

Faded and past

Eternal time

Love will outlast

I am here in the stars

And in the moon’s dust

I cover you up

On this you can trust

I am in the bird’s song

And in a the sun’s beam

Look all around

I can be seen

My spirit will move

A breeze in the wind

It is the circle of life

….A soul never ends

Evergreen

The Morning Press: CRC, Camas administrator, local shutdown … http://www.columbian.com

Green is life as it rises from the ground

Masterfully molded and sculpted

The greatest artforms around

Evergreen the earth, fields and trees

Breath in the air

All is fresh and clean

Another day has come

I watch the birth of the sun

A masterpiece in the sky

A new sun to greet

This can’t be taken from me

It lives deep inside

Such beauty abounds

Feeling energized

Giving me ambition

To live another day

Another memory to create

Another day to give praise

I reach within myself

I find a memory

I post it in my heart,

I carry it with me

I will pull it out and look at it often

It is a part of me,

Something long forgotten

I focus on it and it brings me a smile

It gives me new hope

Helping me to walk another mile

Everyday is a rebirth

Everyday is a blessing

Today is another miracle

I am here to enjoy

Turkey and Sleep

Contrary to popular belief, eating turkey isn’t the main reason you feel sleepy after a Thanksgiving feast. The oft-repeated turkey mythstems from the fact that turkey contains the amino acid tryptophan, which forms the basis of brain chemicals that make people tired. But turkey isn’t any more sleep-inducing than other foods. In fact, consuming large amounts of carbohydrates and alcohol may be the real cause of a post-Thanksgiving-meal snooze, experts say.

Tryptophan is a component of the brain chemical serotonin, which gets converted into the well-known sleep-inducing hormone melatonin. Poultry and many other foods also contain tryptophan, in similar amounts to that found in turkey. Gram for gram, cheddar cheese actually contains more tryptophan than turkey does.
