The rhythmic fluttering of

hundreds of leaves breezing

symmetrical patterns woven from wind

Yet amid the otherwise straightforward

samenes of the majority

a minority of twirls twist on stems

Sheltered from aggressive gusts

gleeful pinwheels spin

The tree-toppling vines have turned the red

blood becomes when it hits air

altering trunks into grand dames

gowned for the Opera

throats encrusted with ruby chokers

cinched to a pinched wince

snug string circling wrist
connected to weightless thrill
enthusiasm held aloft
gravity pull-less against it
