New Pages: Ultra 80s Playlists

I have created a new source of 80s playlists for you at your silent face. Four new pages, in fact! Eighteen Spotify playlists. Each list five songs long.

A friend of mine challenged me to curate a Top Five Ultra 80s Playlist. See if you can guess which one I submitted.

The Companion to Your Silent Face

Maybe you need the companion playlist to my novel, Your Silent Face, which was released for Kindle in 2020 and as a paperback in 2021. You can like and listen to Your Silent Face: the Playlist on Spotify for free. It's a good way to get into the novel, or to continue enjoying it after you've read it.

There are a couple of other cool 80s alternative and New Wave playlists at this link which were curated by me and Pete Martens. You can find the novel at my website, at The Robin Books in REOtown, Lansing or on Amazon.

The Multiverse Has Shifted

The Multiverse, which is a painting from early 2020, has found a new home. It is part of the ongoing series, The Sublime. I was very pleased with this painting. I am happy that it will now live with others—be enjoyed by someone else—in a different place, another micro verse.

Thank you for bringing The Multiverse into your home.

Let Me Go

Why, yes, according to Spotify, I did listen to the song “Let Me Go” by Heaven 17 more than any other song in 2021. Well, 2021 isn’t over, and I’m competitive…even though I say I’m not…

Let me go.

The Connect: SOLD

I almost always make art because I have something which I want to say or convey. But I don’t analyze it too much anymore. My life seems to be better when I am making art. I will add that I think art-making gives me a sense of commitment and accomplishment, which is important.

Anyway, it is always nice when somebody digs what I am doing and/or hears what I am saying. We want to be heard. The new trio of landscapes with space object have sold.

When Landscape Meets Concept: A New Trio

I am not a landscape painter by any stretch of the imagination. But I’m pretty happy with how this trio of paintings turned out. A synthesis of landscape and concept. Each painting is 10”x10”.

Landscape & Space Object

I am really feeling these small landscapes with space object. I like the tactile-ness of the brown packing paper. I like working with crayon. My favorite drawing utensil is a blue Caran d’Ache non-photo pencil.

Nation of Language's Second Release

Brooklyn-based synth pop (revivalists) band Nation of Language has released a second album, A Way Forward. I really like this band. And I confess that they remind me of a lot of things 80s—a mash up of many 80s bands like OMD, Depeche Mode, Ultravoxx and even Roxy Music.

(I’m all for a synth pop revival, by the way! Far as I can tell, it’s been on for a while, now.)

After you get past the opening of the first track, the pace feels a bit less insistent than the songs on Introduction, Presence (2020)—but I haven’t spent a lot of time with the new album, yet. I’m just excited it’s out. See for yourself.

If you like 80s synth music, you will like Nation of Language.

Here’s a link to Pitchfork’s review.
