How did politics trickle into a food story?

How did politics and power trickle into this food story? Simple answer: politics is life.

All our lives are a form of struggle for power, to be seen and heard. We kick against this truth for it makes us look bad. It makes us out to be power hungry menace. We hate it because we cannot be like the politicians we voted in we think.

But power is protection. It is the ability to remove harm from your immediate environment and that is not so bad right? A mother protecting her son from harm. A father fighting to provide.

So the book tickled into politics and this is the essence of BEFORE, COUP, AFTER.

A GIFT TO APOLOGIZE FOR MY ABSENCE 🙏

How long has it been since I made a post on Goodreads?

In all honesty, I do not want to go down the route of checking. I had to go off the radar a little to experiment with the things that could have an effect on my writing career.

Like any self-published author, I am on my own and learning to navigate the marketing and business side of things. It would be blissful to stick my head in the sand and let all this roll over. It would be nice to declare "I am only concerned with making art"

That is not entirely true.

I decided to become bolder, maybe just a little and try to get my books into the hands of more readers. If only to hear them say that my time, sweat and crazy creation is worth the read. Or, even for them to say they hated it.

I do not know all the things that work. It will always be an experiment but I am back 😀

And this little gift is to say how sorry I am 🙏

Dear Heather Graham...

My favourite writer in the whole world is Heather Graham. Do you know her? Have you read her books before?

She is the writer of the Dead on the dance floor and Long, Lean and Lethal.

I found Heather at the time when I was struggling with what I really wanted to write. I am Nigerian and I kid you not when I say we have beautiful historical and literary fiction books. I grew up around them. I had to hide my opinion every time they asked me who my best writer was. I mean which Nigerian will not say Wole Soyinka (Papi, I loyal o)? Me, of course.

Heather was my get free card. She was living proof that I could write madness and blood. She was proof of a writer travelling through the world on her terms (that is at least what her books told me)

I knew I would not be able to stay in the mold Pose and Coloured Tales (my first & second publications. Beautiful read too) had put me in. I knew Pose was a one off and I was almost ready for what would be coming.

Dear Heather, thank you.
All my love.

...
Who is your favourite writer of all time?
P.S: your weekend read is up! https://abasiamaudom.weebly.com/abasi...

While the world slept…

Hey!

I have been trying and failing to share my art and writing more with the world. At first I was more interested in affirmed. I submitted a lot to magazines and they grew my confidence and tone as a writer. I do not really know if I plateaued or if the realities of life just put me under its spell but I found that I have been under sharing with my readers except for the occasional publication date. You did not even know about this, did you?
Then Surrender by Abasiama Udom

How did you deal with this as an author?

What would you suggest if I were your *favourite* author in the world?

What would you tell me is the best way to never leave you stranded even between works?

Well, I tried something. It called a BLOG!

Yes, while the world slept I played around on weebly and started something of a challenge to me. In addition to my newsletters, I want to share my stories and rants and reviews with you.

Ready or not, here I come!
All my love, A.

Feedback and the writer

What is feedback? And why is it essential to the growth of a writer?

Who is qualified to give feedback? And how do you deal with feedback? What do you do with it? How do you use feedback to grow as a writer?

Feedback can be requested. Every writer who wishes to grow or scale must get feedback in form of criticism or readers opinion.

Are you struggling with the concept of feedback? Or the lack of it? Find beta readers, reviewers and other writers to exchange your work with.

Be ready to accept and implement feedback.

I want to tell you a story

I want to tell you a story.

We all want to share stories. We all want to be heard. We all want people to listen to us. To hear our opinion, to get what we say. You get me? 😃

Or do you not want to be heard? There are few things a writer dreams of but getting heard/read is no dream. It is a desire. A strong desire.

Many beginners try and try and end up saying, 'no one want to hear me'

But we do! We want to hear you. We want to listen to your experience and you story?

We are waiting for you writer! Please tell us a story. Write us a poem. Do not keep us waiting for ever.
Have faith in your words.

Find the guide to getting your story heard in my book, Roadmap, at

Roadmap

Bio’s for bio.

The beginner writer hears the word bio and goes what?? My bio? What does that mean?

A bio is a short “about the writer” usually placed behind books. You need a bio when submitting, querying or even registering on a forum.

How do I get a bio or write one if I have never published? My life is sooo boring.
Calm down. Yes, calm down.

1. Who are you? That should be obvious right?
Okon Okon is a mathematics and statistics student at the xx university.

2. Location. (If you feel like it or if requested)
She resides in St under Mango street, Nigeria with her sibling.

3. Your uniqueness (as related to the piece or your life)
Okon likes to explore the river of Edi and watch discovery channel or her favorite 'Ekpo' masquerade perform at the town square.

4. Your social media Link(s).

Now, Put it all together.

Okon Okon is a mathematics and statistics student at the xx university.
She resides in St under Mango street, Nigeria with her sibling. Okon likes to explore the river of Edi and watch discovery channel or her favorite 'Ekpo' masquerade perform at the town square. She tweets @OkonMasqRiv

👉 You do not need publishing credentials now. Stay calm, let your work speak.

Life Lessons

Life Lessons

Life is a school. Life is an institute. Life is a teacher, she brings lessons every day.
How? When? Beside you, there is a lesson life is trying to get across to you. In this very moment life is dressed in smarts like your teacher in Primary school, a whip in hand or not. She is shouting, 'look here!' I want to show you something!

Her lesson is found in everyday happenings. Life does not need a classroom for life is a classroom and the teacher. But she will not force you to learn. She will let you face the consequences if you fail to learn, to listen.

How to pick out life's lessons:

Pay attention. Be here. Be present. Be here now. Life is happening, be present. Be in the moment, flow with the current.

Journal. Find a place to document your experience. Keep a diary or log book. Review your experience daily. Reflect on the day.

Seek new experiences. Get out of your own head. Get out of your room. Get out of your comfort zone. Try something new. Try a new food. A new genre of book. A new writer. Visit a new place. Try a new movie. A new game. Try a new method. Find new friends.

Life is waiting. Life is teaching.
