The new YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN trailer.

I think YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN looks fun. And it does have a definite Ditko vibe to it, doesn’t it? Interesting.

Speaking of ‘interesting, here’s a quote from star Hudson Thames:

“I thought it was awesome. I mean, my biggest fear was that it was gonna be annoying and woke, and it wasn’t, and I was like, ‘Yes, this is great, it’s so well written,’ like it feels real.”

Snippet the Last, IRONGHOST (Part 1)

I gotta do this one as a two-parter. This was a tough month for me, deadlines-wise. I hate admitting it, but it’s true.

The smack of Nat’s hand grabbing his upper arm was a shock, but a welcome one. Oxman instinctively gripped back, using his other hand to try to brace himself against anything that still felt like being load-bearing. This was no time to clutch at rescue, only to pull the rescuer down with him. He did spare a look up, though. Nat was leaning out pretty damned far. That wasn’t great.

“You see something down there we can jump to?” Nat wasn’t shouting, yet, but he sounded strained. “Up here’s coming apart pretty quick!”

“Yeah! About ten feet. Floor’s even clear. Gonna aim for it first, you follow.” Oxman frowned.  “Hey, what are you holding onto?”

“Don’t ask! Just jump!”

Tweet of the Day, Nerds Are Nerds… edition.

…even when they’re Victorian nerds. Weird how most of the SFF community today hasn’t ever read the book, huh? Including me.

The Coming Race and th epower of Vril was so popular that it led to what might be the world's first science fiction convention, the Vril-Ya Bazaar and Fete held in 1891 at the Royal Albert Hall in London: https://t.co/52jCsVAe6O pic.twitter.com/N1cfc25trt

Need to log out to do the Windows Update.

You know it’s gonna be a fun one when the computer says, Look, you may want to have this one go off overnight. Clearly, this is a hint to go to sleep, if the bleary eyes and sore throat wasn’t enough of one. Night!

Adventures in digital ads!

I did this for the weekend push for the The Fermi Resolution Worldbook Backerkit. I think it didn’t come out half bad. Four days to go!

In the Mail: House of Leaves.

Actual in the mail, too: supposedly House of Leaves is one of those books whose fans insist that it be read in dead-tree form. Supposedly it’s one of those books that will completely blow your mind, man. …Look, I’m not saying that it won’t, sure. I’m sure there are books out there that can. It’s just that I’ve never read one that came even close to duplicating the mind-altering effects of three margaritas in two hours.

So, yeah, kid of jaundiced about these claims.

01/30/2025 Snippet, IRONGHOST.

I am apparently downloading Windows 11 right now, so this is a bit of a ‘get this up now’ job.

The two worked out later that they had made a basic mistake about their surroundings. The usual rule of thumb about Old American buildings was, If it’s stayed up this long, it ain’t falling down any time soon. It was a good rule. Everything the ancients made either fell apart right away, or it damned well lasted forever. Everybody knew that.

\The problem was, most of the breakable stuff had gotten messed around with first by people, critters, or monsters. Fine. But there weren’t any people or big critters in Deadlime, and the monsters weren’t interested in the buildings. That benign neglect might have kept the city in a peaceful, half-mouldered state, but it was still neglect. It didn’t help either that the fight below kept shaking up the walls and the roofs of the surrounding buildings, not to mention the foundations.

Anyway, that’s why neither man figured out in time that the roof they were currently on was staying together mostly out of habit.

No oomph this week.

Not much oomph this month, to be fair, and all of it’s being sucked up by the Backerkit. Is this part of the problem with having a long lead time? I don’t think about anything else? Well, at least January’s a slow month anyway.
