Tweet of the Day, It’s A… Surprisingly Interesting Question edition.
One sort of addressed in Disney Phineas & Ferb: Star Wars, which is inexplicably and inexcusably NOT canon, somehow. Yes, I grant that there are broad comic elements that might be difficult to reconcile with the more epic tone aimed for in the Star Wars universe. Counterpoint: midichlorians, the inability of stormtroopers to shoot, the unlikely career arc of Jar-Jar Binks, and goram death sticks and robot waitresses. So, sure, let’s keep all of that in the official universe, but God forbid that there’d be room for a Dark Side-infused sub sandwich…
…But I digress.
also what the fuck did they do on the Death Star when it wasn't Planet Exploding Day or Getting Attacked By Rebels Day? are they renting out office space to businesses to generate revenue?

‘Don’t Give Up.’
Less than a day on the SVALBARD Kickstarter.
Svalbard is a Cthulhu Mythos-light time-bending game scenario. It looks real cool. I want the extra stuff, too. Less than a day to go!
The COSMIC SIN trailer. (I don’t know if I believe in it.)
I mean, it exists, sure… but is there an actual movie? I know that it’s been an odd year or so lately in the movie business, but COSMIC SIN seems more like an elaborate practical joke. Like, Bruce Willis and Frank Grillo were working on a different, secret project and this is just what they threw together to muddy the waters and achieve tactical surprise.
Because if they were instead really trying to go with a ‘Mass Effect fan film’ aesthetic, then there’s a fairly important asset that’s apparently lacking.
02/05/21 Snippet, GHOSTS ON AN ALIEN WIND.
Moving along…

It would take at least two days for us to get — or not-get — a response. The Amalgamation apparently had a fast FTL communication network, before something destroyed it and the rest of their society. We make do with hyperdrive-equipped message drones, and when a Lifeping goes off somebody living has to actually answer it. It’s not a bad system, as soon as you accept that it’s largely for making sure that ships don’t unknowingly visit a star system that’s decided to start eating people.
What did we do while that was going on? Well, I was ‘on call;’ which sounded better than ‘held in readiness for a combat run.’ If we ended up having to do something about the Redacted, it wouldn’t be with the local cargo haulers. They weren’t armored very well and they absolutely weren’t armed. I’d have to use one of the shuttles we brought with us to the dig… after it had been quietly and suitably retrofitted.
But better mechanics than me were making sure of that, so I was taking advantage of the situation to take mild advantage of Syah. Not that he minded being taken out and plied our finest delicacies from the commissary. I gathered over dinner that the planetary net interface was being stubborn.
“There’s nothing any of us can put our finger on,” Syad said, looking tired in his lovely eyes. “The diagnostics say things are within tolerances. Not perfect, but we’re in the Tomb Worlds, right? Nothing works exactly the way it should out here.”
02/05/21 Snippet, [Title to be determined].
I realized that the story I was writing required me to write this story first. At some point I’ll get a title for it, I guess. No rush.

I hate the smell of napalm in the morning, Janet Phan quoted to herself as she looked at the blackened corpse through her binoculars. Please, please, please don’t let the wind shift! She wasn’t sure Who she was praying to, or whether she even wanted Anybody to be listening. This hadn’t been a great year for people who believed in benevolent deities. Or anybody else, either.
That corpse was real dead, though. It had been caught by one of the tripwires set up to deter Devilwood tendrils, but napalm didn’t care what it burned. Especially since the people who had put in the trap didn’t care, either. There were signs. You didn’t read them, that was on you.
Besides… “How long before we can stop watching, you think?” she asked the other Councilwoman. Everybody took a turn watching the walls of the PECZ. Those were the Rules.
Elizabeth Collins shrugged, slightly enough that the utterly irreplaceable VR drone she was controlling didn’t bobble. “Five more minutes… whoops! New answer: not at all. Damned thing started moving.”
In the pre-order queue: Planetary Anthology Series: Saturn.
Planetary Anthology Series: Saturn is coming out in the middle of the month, and features a story by Karl Gallagher. He is a good egg, so I will give it a try. I have acquired even more of an appreciation of the problems involved in moving short story collections, let me tell you…

Racing tonight on the Penny Arcade circuit!
The theme for this week’s race is ‘Unnecessary Censorship.’ It starts at 11 PM Eastern time, as usual. The guy (beastGP) putting together my sponsored car made some temporary modifications of the logo:

Come, I will conceal nothing from you: I laughed.
