The SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS teaser trailer.

This doesn’t look half bad. I’m down for a martial arts superhero flick with MCU levels of funding. Won’t be real deep, but it should be able to manage fun.

Final Snippet, PROCESSING DUTY.

It still needs work, but determining what that work is will be the beta readers’ problem.

The halls were cleared, because nobody wants to be anywhere besides behind blast doors during Processing. I didn’t, either — but the job’s the job. On the other hand: what was anybody gonna do, if they saw me running through the halls, Dizzy’s gun in hand? Besides hit an alarm button that didn’t work?

Anyway, the door leading to the Processing chamber had been jimmied; it looked closed, but the lock didn’t engage. You don’t do that. You don’t do that. I can see trying to keep the door to an underground nuclear test site stuck closed, but open? That’s just being spiteful.

Annnnd BOOM goes the drowsiness.

Just hit. Thank God for caffeine, or I would have fallen asleep during the baronial meeting. I’m picking a song, and then I might… go to bed early? Is that even allowed, for those such as I?

Back from the shot.

So far, no side effects from the shot itself (Moderna, if it matters). The Mango Pepsi* and Funyuns I consumed while gassing up the car, though? …Jury’s still out on those.

But if the shot wipes me out later, it wipes me out later. Small price to pay.

*…I would not call it bad. But the taste was surprising, and I’m not sure why. I mean, the bottle told me it was mango-flavored. I supposed I didn’t… believe it?

04/18/21 Snippet, PROCESSING DUTY.

Almost there…

Waking up again wasn’t fun. My back felt like it had gotten three good whacks with a hammer, and the dead Brooder wasn’t smelling any better than she had before I got shot. Oh, and I was in the dark, with busted goggles. Falling face forward like that hadn’t done them any favors.

As I got to my feet, I could hear the clatter as what I figured were bullets rolled off of Bang-Man and onto the cave floor. Good old Bang-Man. The ogres who gave it to me called it a bangmangi, and they said it was good luck. Having three bullets roll themselves around the outside of my body and cling to the club — yeah, I guess it counts. It still stung like a son of a bitch.

Speaking of sons of bitches…

Patreon Microfiction: Divvying Up the Loot.

100WS-Divvying Up The LootDownload

Divvying Up the Loot looks at the complications you might have when there’s a no-fooling Thieves’ Guild out there. I can’t imagine but that understandings might be reached. Especially if there are groups out there that both the cops and the crooks won’t like…

In the E-Mail: GRANTVILLE GAZETTE IX (e-ARC).

A nice way to end the week. Obviously, this edition of GRANTVILLE GAZETTE IX is an e-ARC, with all that entails. I know they’re not everybody’s cup of tea, but I like them. I was always bothered by the thought that the books I wanted to read were out there at the publishers, just waiting to be printed…

Book of the Week: There Is No Antimemetics Division.

I grabbed the Kindle for There is No Antimemetics Division by qntm because my eldest kid is a big fan of the SCP Foundation, and I was curious about what fiction based on it looked like. It’s good! And not just ‘media tie-in good,’ either. This book holds up as fiction, and reads like it was for-real edited. You start to notice the lack of that, once you get smacked around by an editor a few times.
