Patreon Microfiction: Marching Through Texas.

10WS-Marching Through TexasDownload

I kind of want to write the full story found in ‘Marching Through Texas,’ but I would undoubtedly get one of the buttons wrong and then everything would just go to Hell. I may write it, anyway. As the philosopher said: sometimes you just wanna lock the controls, and send the [expletive deleted]er right into the sun.

Good game tonight.

But GMing dreamscapes is hard. The problem isn’t thinking up weird things; it’s describing them. Especially when the iconography that makes sense to me doesn’t make sense to everybody else, or sometimes anybody else. I’m not entirely sure that I properly considered the inherent difficulties of this In Nomine campaign, honestly.

Well, at least we’re having fun.

Book of the Week: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

Kate DiCamello’s The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane was assigned to my youngest child’s fifth-grade reading class. I’m following along with it because of the pandemic thing, and… it’s good. Not ‘a good kid’s book’; just ‘good.’ My own kid loves it, mind. He’s also paying attention to it, which is even better.

04/10/21 Revisions, MORGAN BAROD.

Chewed through the Vampire City, fixed it up all nice and proper, and… there are extensive reader notes on Chapter 20 and 21. I seem to recall feeling vaguely eager to speed on through, and get on to the next part. WELP, I’M GONNA PAY THE PRICE FOR THAT NOW!

Seriously, though, this is moving along pretty good. I might have the first write-through squared away by the end of next week. Then it’s beta-reader time!

Tweet of the Day, This Penny Arcade Strip Is A Creative Inspiration To Me edition.

Straight up. If I have an impulse in my horror fiction, it is to create new, dark mythologies. Ones with half-seen depths and grim solidities; the sort of thing where, when you encounter the monster, a look past it will reveal an entire bone-chilling world where the monster makes logical sense. This strip encourages me to keep on with that.

Honestly, it’s not so much the existing pressure.

It’s the possibility that the pressure might be relieved in the future that… itches. I want everything put back the way it was, like, now. Obviously that’s not going to happen, but I want it to anyway. That can make me grouchy, like it did today. Grouchy and snappish over little things.

There’s going to be so much vacation time when this is all over…

04/09/21 Revision, MORGAN BAROD.

I am not precisely stuck on Chapter 17. I’m just trying to figure out the best way to change it. My first thought was there was going to be a crime, Morgan Barod thwarts it, there’s an execution of the criminal, then there’s a fight scene… it can’t be sustained by the timeline. So I’m just going to have the crime, the thwarting, and then the fight scene. Much more seamless all around.
