Couldn’t get much work done tonight.

Releasing my stuff into the wild — stuff that people have paid for — is always fraught for me, even after the fact. Particularly when I’m mordantly sure that it’s in the process of blowing up, only I haven’t noticed yet. But surely I would know by now if it had, right?

On the bright side, I literally have nowhere to be for the next month. The days of travel are done, at least for me. Which is good, because there’s a ton of stuff to write and the house needs a good cleaning.

Rewards have gone out for “A proper picture for my ‘Pickman’s Model!'”

Backers should be getting an email link to the Dropbox files any moment now. Feel free to let me know if there are any problems. For those who missed the Kickstarter, the story will be available on Kindle some time in the middle of July.

I would like to thank again everyone who pledged.

Oh, my aching head: A FRASIER revival?

Do people really want to watch this? “Frasier Revival Is Attempting to Woo Back the Original Cast.” It’s not that I want to keep Kelsey Grammer from working (it might keep him from making projects like MONEY PLANE!*); it’s just that I don’t know if people really do watch these things.

I’m legitimately curious about that, in fact. What TV show revival was successful enough to spark imitators? The only one I can think of was the Roseanne one, and the way that that whole thing blew up kind of obscures whether the show would have survived. Other than that, I’m drawing a blank.

*Hey, you never know.

Patreon Microfiction: They’ve Got Their Reasons, Trust Me.

So, as to “They’ve Got Their Reasons, Trust Me:” I have no ideas what those reasons are, in fact. Maybe they’ll tell me. Maybe they won’t. It’s all good, baby.

Book of the Week: …I got nothing, sorry.

Seriously, nothing’s sparking. Guess it’s time for a book recommendations thread. Have at it!

06/26/21 Snippet, WE LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE PLACE.

Family drama!

That was when Mr. Carver started shouting. He was a big guy, who always looked like he was about to start sweating, and he had one of those bushy beards to make up for the hair he was losing above. He was a bully, too. A grown-up bully, who knew what he wanted and was going to goddamn well get it whether you liked it, or not.

In his defense, what he wanted right now was his kid back. And everybody wanted to help with that, within limits. Sheriff Wiley ran interference for the fire department, for a while. But some people just can’t take ‘You’re in over your head and you don’t even know it’ for an answer. Eventually the sheriff gave up. “You want your fucking kid back?” he snapped, loud enough to make Mrs. Carter jump.

(I know you’re probably imagining her as some kind of shrinking violet, but she wasn’t. She was real tall for a woman, with grey-streaked black hair — and hard eyes. She had the kind of eyes that come attached to people who can get real obsessed with the Place. She was worried about Andy, too, but more in control of it.)

THE PROTEGE trailer.

Saw this in previews.

Looks like Michael Keaton’s getting work again. I kind of like the vibe here. I might go see this in theaters.

My mini-review of THE HITMAN’S WIFE’S BODYGUARD.

Short version: very stupid, but both self-aware and funny about it.

Slightly longer version: …well, nobody’s ever going to give THE HITMAN’S WIFE’S BODYGUARD an Oscar. It’s loud, stupid, and at no point does law enforcement ever work like that. But does anybody care? The cast enjoyed being around each other and stuff blew up real nice. I laughed and enjoyed myself.

If you don’t want to see it in theaters, don’t. But if you do, I recommend you go to the bar first and have a beer and some chicken tenders. It’ll put you in the right mood: cheerful, and indulgent.

PS: THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD is better, mind you.
