Tweets of the Day, Nature Is Horrible And We’re Right To Hate It edition.

Because it hates us right back.

Also today, someone posted on Nextdoor vid of an invasive, hermaphroditical, 3ft long "hammerhead" WORM they found on their doorstep. It has neurotoxins that harm pets & is spreading thru the area.

We may need to shut down the Triangle until we can figure out what's going on. https://t.co/o4F1vdpLAf

And people complained when Elon Musk sold flamethrowers to the general populace. BETCHA WISHED YOU HAD PRE-ORDERED ONE NOW, HUH? Don't bother checking E-bay, Bub: you're just gonna have to DIY it. https://t.co/UQutD7qXXi

The ‘Oh, right, I’m off the cold medicine’ STEVEN KANG’S SHARKS OF THE CORN trailer.

I am reliably informed (by an expert in the field) that SHARKS OF THE CORN is real, and not a Robitussin*-fueled hallucination. Excuse me: STEVEN KANG’S SHARKS OF THE CORN, because you need the full title for the full effect. It’s one of those movies that you don’t really need to make, honestly. The movie poster is enough. More than enough, really.

*God DAMN it, Chrome: if you knew what the proper spelling was, then why didn’t you tell me it? What did you think I was trying to spell? Robespierre? Rotisserie? Robinson Crusoe?

Billionaire Branson’s Blastoff Beats Bezos.

There are worse things for billionaires to compete over.

Richard Branson reached space on a test flight for Virgin Galactic before gliding back to earth and touching down safely Sunday, the latest salvo in the burgeoning space tourism business led by high-profile billionaires.

The Virgin Group founder launched Sunday with three company employees, flying 53 miles above the earth in a final test mission before kicking off commercial space flights next year. Branson – who earned his pilot’s license – tested the astronaut cabin experience.

Jeff Bezos gets to go up in nine days. Between you, me, and the lamppost: he’s not real thrilled about that, either. In contrast to Elon Musk – but then, Musk’s already racked up some firsts of his own. Why not be gracious?

PS: I would recommend Michael Flynn’s Firestar series, but only the last one is available on Kindle. Weird.

THE WITCHER: NIGHTMARE OF THE WOLF Netflix teaser trailer.

Very anime, drops August 23rd. Features Vesemir, not Geralt. Coolness.

Patreon Microfiction: Adieu Terran Ladies.

100WS-Adieu Terran LadiesDownload

I like filk. And I figure people will sing stuff like ‘Adieu Terran Ladies,’ centuries after we are all dead. Well, if we’re lucky, that is.

07/11/21 Snippet, THE DEFENSE OF WINDERMERE CASTLE.

Still need to think up a better title! Look, I’ve been sick. It’s a miracle I could actually write today.

It took four days to reach the beacon-fire location, and Carlotta cordially loathed it. It was a horrible time of year for traveling, there were far too many unpleasantly wet or prickly locations in the wilderness, and then there was the added threat of the Undead to consider. That last one was somehow worse for being almost nonexistent. Her party only encountered solitary revenants, and they were invariably stuck in the landscape somehow. It was quite the surprise.

Indeed, they even found a small, walled settlement/refuge of people, who were most insistent that they stay far, far away. “The damned things are attracted by smell!” the guard on the wooden palisade yelled to them. “We’re full here!”

Witherby looked at Carlotta. At her nod, he stepped forward and said, “We have news from the east, and food of our own! All we ask for is the use of your walls and fires for the night!”

“You’ll get the use of our bows if you come any closer! And the rest of the world can go hang!”

Book of the Week: The Last Graduate: A Novel (The Scholomance Book 2).

Naomi Novik’s The Last Graduate: A Novel (The Scholomance Book 2) is not coming out until September, but I cannot wait and I am still sick. I am putting this up, and then I am going back to bed. Good night!
