‘Kung Fu Fighting.’
Quote of the Day, …You FOOLS. You Mad, Arrogant, Fools edition.
God help us all: “According to this new report, the [Hulu] creative team is “returning to the core comic books for their take” [on a new LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN movie].” They are aware that the comics were written by Allan Moore, yes?
:pause:
Allan… Moore? The fellow who has a certain… uncritical willingness to trod sensibilities into the dirt? I enjoy his work, think it very good – and will forbid it to my children. Until they are, say, twenty-nine or so. Yes. That should be old enough.

Item Seed: The Cut Lass.
The pirate talk was nice. It was also in Annapolis during a perfect evening, which may have been a little more important. Chesapeake piracy and a glass of cider; life was good.
Cut-Lass-Google-DocsDownloadThe surprisingly thirsty SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW trailer.
‘Thirsty’ is the term the young’uns use these days, right? We would have just said ‘horny.’ Because it’s that, too. So much so that Twitter slapped on a content warning.
You'll like her when she's angry.

I’m not going to judge: there but for the lack of an Amazon fetish, go I. If this gets somebody’s motor running, ain’t none of my business. But maybe don’t watch this with the kids?

PS: Yes, I know. But the contingent of fans that will start breathing funny over this trailer is out there. They exist. They have disposable income. Like Thanos, this was… inevitable.
Pirates tonight!
Dinner shall involve pirates. I shall say nothing else, except that I expect that a beer may be involved at some point. We’re playing it by ear.
So if posting is light tonight, that’s why.

I find membership congenial, and it does on occasion offer discounts on HPL Historical Society products. But I mostly like it for the sheer look of the thing. Besides: who knows? If the Great Old Ones ever do come back, perhaps membership will get me special consideration. Although I’m not whether that’ll mean just getting last, or first…

They’re making a LEFT BEHIND sequel…
…and I have a mixed reaction to that. It’s not that I don’t want them to make a sequel to LEFT BEHIND, or even that they’re probably not making the kind of Christian Tribulation movie that I want to see. It’s that nobody’s making the kind of Christian Tribulation movie that I want to see.
I know that it’s a tricky, not to mention heavily-fraught situation. Millions of people believe that the Book of Revelation is literal prophecy, and that one of several premillennialist theories will end up accurately predicting the end of the world. And those people rightly don’t like having their beliefs mocked, any more than anybody else. But I can’t help thinking that a movie that explored Revelation in a way that took it seriously, while at the same time avoiding any tendency towards being didactic (or apologetics), could be worth watching*.
And it must be said: you could make one literal Hell of a horror film out of the imagery found in that book.

*Good Omens came closest; but while I loved the miniseries, it was too satirical for the epic movie I want to watch.

They’re making another sequel to an Eighties movies… no, hold up: it’s SPINAL TAP.
That… maybe changes things, right? “A sequel is in the works to the 1984 rock mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap,” with director Rob Reiner returning alongside stars Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer.” It’s going to be in the style of THE LAST WALTZ, complete with other real-life musicians* paying tribute. That gives them two things to make fun of: Spinal Tap, and Martin Scorsese. Mixes it up a little, right?
Moe Lane
*Three albums. Back From the Dead made it to #51 on the charts, and got a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album. I think they get to be called real musicians at this point; and yes, I will die on this hill.
05/16/22 Snippet, HERO OF THE REVOLUTION.
This story is getting complicated.

I sighed. “Tell me, Forfax: the War between Heaven and Hell. Who won it?”
He scowled at me. “Screw you.”
“Sorry, let me start. I’ll admit it: Heaven lost the War.”
The demon had been with the Embassy long enough to notice the lack of cacophony that accompanies a lie in Heaven. He looked around, confusedly. “Hold on. We lost the War!” Then his eyes widened, because there was no cacophony there, either.
I nodded. “Exactly. We both lost. Your War aim was to retake the Eternal City. Ours was to lock you away forever. Neither side has accomplished its goals. Instead, we have an armistice. More: we have a status quo. And nobody can quite say how it took root.”
