Video of the Day, I AM A CYBERNETIC BASILISK edition.

Yeah, this is what it looks like in CYBERPUNK 2077.

And it only looks boring. When you’re doing it, it’s like being in the beginning of a horror movie where you’re the monster. I’m shocked they don’t burn deckers at the stake in Night City.

‘Danger Zone.’

You knew this was always how it was going to go.

I am wondering about this MUNSTERS trailer.

Rob Zombie’s THE MUNSTERS is in color. But it’s in a real funky color, which works in a weird sort of way. I wanna like this movie, but I need more data.

About halfway through Chapter 15 in TINSEL RAIN print proofing.

The TINSEL RAIN proofing would have been done today, I think, except for DANGER ZONE.

I’m going to try to finish it tomorrow, so that I can log the changes and start the publication process. Once it’s live… then it’s time to order some physical books for rewards!

So, I watched the first episode of MS. MARVEL.

Actually, I liked it. MS. MARVEL is very fannish, which will not appeal to some; and some of the superheroine’s devotees are rather intense about their fandom*. But this show itself was fun. They’re going with ‘magical artifact’ rather than ‘mutating gas’ for the power origin, because… I dunno. Because cramming mutants into the MCU, however hand-waved, is gonna be hard at this point, I guess.

As for any message, so far: …eh. “Being sixteen kind of sucks, but having powers would make up for that,” I guess. Which rings pretty true, honestly. A straightforward teen power fantasy should work out okay.

*Not that that happens with any other superhero in recorded history, of course. I try to take a detached view about this sort of thing: Marvel gave me a nice little Seventies-style government conspiracy movie with superheroes in it, which was cool of them, especially since they also gave me a couple of heist movies with giant Pez dispensers, too. I figure that other people get to have their itches scratched.

The BLACK ADAM trailer.

Wow. Watching Black Adam try to get his head around the assumptions inherent in the Marvel Family is going to be fascinating to watch.

Mind you, I also regret that we never saw Captain Marvel meet Zack Snyder’s Lex Luthor; the former would have reduced the latter to spluttering, outraged idiocy within five minutes, flat. Anyway, yeah: I’ll watch this when it finally comes out. Aside from everything else, it’s got Hawkman in it.

My mini-review of TOP GUN: MAVERICK.

Short version: …Yeah, Sonny Bunch’s theory makes sense. Dammit, Sonny.

Slightly longer version: you can look up Sonny’s theory online. All I can say is, it works. So does TOP GUN: MAVERICK as a movie. The cast had a good time, very much including the United States Navy, who apparently let the production crew borrow an aircraft carrier or two for a while. The conflict was slightly contrived – I have no idea who they were supposed to be fighting, or why the USA couldn’t have jammed air superiority long enough to drop a couple of MOABs on the target – but you’re not there for the conflict. You’re there to have fun. You’ll have fun at TOP GUN: MAVERICK.

Also: 请注意 Maverick 夹克上的日本和台湾国旗。因为去你妈的,中华人民共和国。在你耳边操你。

TED LASSO getting third and last season.

GeekTyrant to the contrary: good.

We’ve got good news, and we’ve got bad news. Ted Lasso season 3 is currently being written for Apple TV+! But according to the show’s co-writer, Brett Goldstein, who plays fan-favorite character Roy Kent in the series, the season is being developed as the show’s last.

It’s not that I don’t like TED LASSO. I love that show. It’s why I got Apple TV+. But it’s a three-season show. Adding more to it would be… unfortunate. Some things should be done, and done well, and then be permitted to tip their cap and head out into the friendly dusk.

The STRANGE WORLD teaser trailer.

I ain’t gonna lie: Disney’s STRANGE WORLD pushes my buttons. Or maybe ‘flips my toggle switches’? Anyway, I’m a sucker for a spaceship with propellers. I’m comfortable enough in my own skin to admit that.

New Flogging Molly album ANTHEM coming out in September.

You can pre-order ANTHEM here. I’m debating whether or not to go see Flogging Molly again on the 22nd. I had a good time the last time I went, but getting in and out of Dizzy City is practically the Platonic Ideal of ‘a real drag.’ Will need to decide that soon.
