Please back my Patreon.

If you like my books

…like my games

…or just like me, Patreon is my primary revenue-generator for my creative work. The better it does, the more cash I have available to make more books, more games, and… well, that’s pretty much it, at the moment.

So back my Patreon. Pretty please, with sugar on top.

05/01/2025 BANSHEE BEACH: 1119 words.

Yup, back to that.

We strolled up to the Espejismo, which felt a little weird. It was the kind of place that catered to people digging their way up through the crust, and looking to practice their snobbery. You’d expect there to be carriages constantly coming and going, displaying a lot of swank and the occasional drop of good taste, but apparently they don’t let horses on the boardwalk.

Fair.

From outside it sounded like a hopping joint, but you couldn’t see much. The walls didn’t have many windows, and you had to go up a bunch of steps to get in. “You sure this is a gambling hell?” I asked Lucas as we walked underneath the arched gateway. “It looks more like a castle.” It did, too, right down to the stones. I was almost expecting somebody to come clanking along in plate mail.

“That’s what the guy in the bar told me,” Lucas said, just as if that settled the matter. “Besides, when’s the last time you saw a castle?”

“I was educated — hey, wait, when’s the last time you saw a castle?”

“Virginia.” That was said with maybe just the faintest shudder. “Nice place,” Lucas went on, as he breezed us both through the bouncers without breaking stride, with only the barest hint of simoleons changing hands to herald our passage. “But it’s strange. Stranger than here, even.”

“I’m insulted,” I told him while paying off the coatcheck girl to not take my hat. They work for tips in these kinds of joints. “New California works hard to this crazy.”

“Yeah, that’s the thing, Tom,” Lucas grinned as he gave the girl considerably more. “Virginia doesn’t have to work at it at all.”

Disney is trying to avoid disclosure in a lawsuit over… spoiler warnings.

Well. I suppose that even now Disney has enough money to pay lawyers to try and shoot for the moon:

The whole thing stems from a bitter legal battle between actors Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively. What started as a serious harassment and retaliation lawsuit connected to the film It Ends With Us has now roped in Ryan Reynolds, and Deadpool.

Specifically, Baldoni’s legal team claims that the character “Nicepool” (a variant of Deadpool seen in the film) was created by Reynolds to mock and harass him amid their dispute. In response, they’ve subpoenaed Marvel’s internal communications about the character.

Marvel’s parent company Disney is fighting back hard. Their reasoning? If the documents are released, they could spill spoilers for the future of the MCU.

…Yeah. I don’t think the judge is gonna give a [expletive deleted]. Maybe if the third Ant-Man movie hadn’t been a disappointment… no, probably not even then.

:shaking head: I guess that sometimes you just gotta swing at the pitch.

Snippet the Last, THE ICE AWAITS.

Suit up, warmie.

The power room was sort of guarded. As in there were two cultists, one on each side of the door. Both had been taped to the walls, and had the veins on their bound wrists slashed. You could see the path their blood had taken down the walls by the horrible bio-mechanical vitality it had left behind — but the worst part was lingering traces of ecstasy on their faces. If these were sacrifices, they were a willing one.

Still, they were dead, and we didn’t waste time. If you’re listening to this, don’t waste time. Remember your classes and training. The cultists will have a plan. It will be complicated, precise, and merciless. If you try to match plan for plan, you will lose. So go in quickly. Break things. Disrupt. Ignore everything else, including your looming death.

Which is what we did.
