On the Road Again - Where are You Going to Stay?

You are ready to hit the road and do some traveling. You have decided where to go and what route you will take. After a year of isolation, those are big steps. The next question to answer is, where are you going to stay? Lodging is important.

This blog will look at lodging options at your destination and along the route. If you are going to a conference or similar event, you may be limited to the lodging where the event takes place. For large events, such as San Diego’s Comic-Con which is held in the San Diego Convention Center, attendees stay at hotels, motels, AirBnB, and anywhere else they can find a bed.

Planning Your Road Trip - What Places Do You Want to See?

So, you have made the decision to take a road trip, as we hope COVID infections have eased a bit and more people are vaccinated against it. In my mind the next question to answer, after the decision to travel, is where are you going?

The possibilities are endless. It really depends on how much time you have, how far you are willing to drive each day, and what you want to see. To the mountains? To the seashore? How about National Parks? Maybe the Presidential Libraries? Perhaps you have a special interest that has a place that is on your To Do list.

Are You Ready to Add a Bidet to Your Bathroom?

An article in the March 21, 2021 issue of the San Diego Union-Tribune entitled Beat the TP Blues got me thinking about bidets. The first time I saw a bidet was in France many years ago. I had no idea what it was. A female friend told us she and her friends used them for washing lingerie. Found out this is not the case. And then I that they were not only for women.

Bidets have become more popular than ever in the United States. If a new residence or a remodel is being planned, you can work in a bidet, if space allows. If not, a bidet seat can usually be retrofitted to an existing toilet. A bidet seat is a toilet seat with bidet features built into it. The minimum connection for a bidet or a bidet seat is to water.

Even With Vaccines, Are You Ready to Travel Again?

Tens of millions of Americans have received at least the first dose of the Moderna or Pfizer COVID vaccine or the Johnson and Johnson single dose vaccine, which is breathing sigh of relief into those lucky enough to get the injections. In addition, the number of cases of COVID has been in a steady decline since the massive holiday surge. With those factors in mind, many are wondering if is time to start traveling again?

While this is encouraging, there are other factors to consider before committing to a trip.

Semi-Annual Time Change Tasks - Improve Energy Efficiency

Benjamin Franklin is credited by most people as the person who originated the idea of Daylight-Saving Time. It was first used in the United States during World War I. It has been praised and panned since then. Arizona appears to be the only state that does not observe Daylight Saving Time. However you feel about it, Daylight Saving Time can be a useful trigger.

Each year I use the start and end of Daylight-Saving Time to remind myself to do a handful of chores around the house that are easily forgotten. With one exception, I do them in the Spring and again in the Fall. They are

On the Road Again – Is It Time to Travel?

On the Road Again is series of blogs on road trips during the age of COVID. Is It Time to Travel? is the first in the series.

The coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic has thrown a wrench into traveling for lots of people. Some states in the United States have required people entering the state to have a negative COVID test within 72 hours of arrival, and possibly quarantine for up to two weeks on arrival, as well. For those wanting to travel internationally, many countries have closed their borders to non-residents.

Veterans, Save Your Family a Lot of Money and Stress

The novel coronavirus, or COVID-19 has cost people their lives and created huge financial hardships. One of the more expensive items for decedents’ families is what to do with of a family member’s remains. Burial and cremation seem to be the most common options with the additional decision whether to have the body or ashes interred or buried.

Those are difficult decisions for the families who are dealing with the loss. Veterans save your family from having to deal with this dilemma. Make those decisions for your family and yourself now.

How to See and Share the Places You Want Without Leaving Home

COVID-19, or the novel corona virus, has had a disastrous effect on the travel industry and on travelers. Airplanes are parked at out of the way places because fewer people are travelling. Most cruise ships are tied up to piers or anchored off the shore of ports around the world and have been for months.

Like many, I enjoy travelling. I try to take a nice vacation each year as well as a couple trips up the coast to the Bay Area. Haven’t been able to do either in over a year.

My sister Nancy and our partners were planning to do a European river cruise in April 2020, but the virus had other plans. Since we were not going anywhere, I suggested that on the day of our canceled departure we have a Non-Voyage party, via Zoom.

How Many Vehicles Are in Your Garage?

What is in your garage? Are there vehicles in your garage? Is there a vehicle in each parking spot?

Garages are designed to be places to park vehicles. Some also may have the laundry area for the home.

Is a Tankless Water Heater Right for You?

Tankless water heaters have been available for at least 20 years and have gained widespread acceptance. When you need a new water heater Is a tankless water heater a good option for your home?

The big selling point for a tankless water heater is the money saved on the day-to-day operation. Money is saved because a tankless water heater only heats the water when a hot water tap is opened. This savings can be substantial. Tankless water heaters save 27 to 50 percent over conventional water heaters. Also, a tankless water heater takes up less room than a conventional water heater and is often wall mounted.
