Postpartum
Having just squeezed out my third book in a year, I'm suffering a postpartum down, floating somewhere between relief (it appears to be healthy and looks just like its father) and anxiety (Will it find its place in the world? Will it make friends?). My baby is so young and the world so cruel.
And as the parent, what do I do now? Try to conceive again straight away or refuse all ideas of coitus? Withdraw and work on improving my syntax, or throw myself at the first sexy idea that comes my way? There should be a group for people like me. Hi, my name's Patrick and I'm a writer.

MCA awards
Okay, so I'm way behind the curve here but I just found out that 'Tony's Dream' was nominated for a Members' Choice Award in the MM Romance group. Guess I didn't win though, since no limo pulled up at my door. All for the best of course. Now I can go back to writing and not waste my time on some silly acceptance tweet. Still, I'd just ironed my tux!

The world of art
Further to my previous post on Tony's Dream. Art museums are curious places. They're like any other business. They have budgets, bottom lines, deadlines, office politics. And, like any other business, sometimes they have criminal behavior - usually financial.
But, unlike other businesses, they must keep up the pretense that they are above all that. Art is pure, so those who work with it must be too. Art appeals to our better nature, so those who work with it must have that better nature. This kind of dichotomy can result in some pretty strange behavior. Thus my book.
Don't get me wrong. Art is essential to life. But it is part of life, warts and all, or as in Tony's case, murder, fraud, forgery - you know, the fun stuff.
That's why I'm thrilled that my next book is a mystery with surfers!

What's true in fiction?
I've been knee-deep in my new book to reply earlier to a couple of reviews of my last book, 'Tony's Dream.' Both express incredulity that the museum in the book could even exist given the amount of fraud and financial mayhem that's described.
While all my books are fantasy, they come from something I've lived. Events are exagerated but there's always a kernel of truth - or an entire corn field. My books are fiction but they're not science fiction.
Anyway, this is not a plea for more stars, far from it. I just want the wonderful people who read my books and take time to comment on them to know that the writing is certainly imperfect, but the source material is accurate. Thanks!

'Beau's Dillemma: A Gay Tale of Science Seduction & Murder in Sydney'
‘Beau’s Dilemma: A Gay Tale of Science Seduction & Murder in Sydney’ will be up and running in June 2021.
Science provides the backdrop here, seduction the thrills, and murder the trigger for it all. Australia is omnipresent with its upside down tropics, intoxicating mountains and endless watery views.
This time out things are less mystical and more physical with just enough murders to make it noir and just enough loving to make it hot. Well, back to the grind.

Klutz of the year award
The klutz of the year award goes to....me!
When I announced by forthcoming book I gave the wrong title. Yes the main character's name is Sam but his nickname is Beau, a very important element to the story. So the book will be called 'Beau's Dilemma'.
In French a 'beau dilemme' literally means a beautiful dilemma as in a tough choice between two attractive options. And that's the story. Sam (or Beau) has a difficult choice to make on all fronts.
He has two paths to follow, two conflicting truths and two hot guys only one of whom wishes him well.
And it all takes place in Australia where surfers wear budgie smugglers and getting buggered means a variety of things.
Now I'll have a word with that promotional team of mine!

3rd in my kinda series in the works
I'm happy to say that the 3rd book in my kinda series is underway. After a romp through ancient Barcelona with 'Jordi's Day' and another through arctic Montreal with 'Tony's Dream', I'm now in tropical Sydney - not literally of course, but I know it well.
Now 'Sam's Dilemma' is in the works.
Sam Beaulieu, receives a desperate call from ex-lover and soul mate, Max, who lives in Australia. Max is a scientist developing a molocule that could revolutionize the world. But he believes there are 'dark forces' wanting him to fail, or even die. He's afraid and begs Sam to fly down and help him.
Landing in Sydney but unable to find Max, Sam meets two very different men. Trevor is a surfer, carefree, fun and willing to help. Dominic is Max's lab assistant and much more reserved. Each offers to help him find Max and his discovery. But only one is telling the truth.
Through frantic chases up and down the Gold Coast, threats, a mugging, a kidnapping, and sex good and bad, Sam searches for Max and the truth behind his disappearance.
So, that's it in a nutshell. Publication sometime in '21.

Great review from a tough reviewer
"This is my second reviewer/reviewee “date” with author Patrick Doyle, and it still remains an open question whether we will ultimately find an intimate chemistry, or, perhaps, if the occasion merely will be a kind learning experience (accompanied, as Mr. Doyle noted to me after my last review) with a scalpel in hand! Coitus or criticism – let’s see!
First, ‘Jordi’s Day’, set in Barcelona, is essentially a mystery tale, with a heavy touch of Gothic. Many authors quickly establish an appropriate milieu - sometimes done with weather: “It was a dark and stormy night…”; sometimes with mood: “Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again…”; and, chutzpah and enormity ignored “In the beginning was the Word…”. Mr. Doyle also knows how to set a scene: “The dark narrow stairs curved sharply at the right. Deep slits in the mottled rock admitted just enough light for them to see one step ahead.”
Next, we are introduced to place and people. First a plus – Barcelona works nicely as a distinctive location, with a language that is not quite our familiar Spanish, and its famous, idiosyncratic architecture, influenced by Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familia, totally sui generis.*"

From Kimmer's Erotic Book Banter
"The opening scene of Tony’s Dream: A Gay Tale of Desire, Deceit & Death in Montreal is so clever and entertaining that I anticipated something special from Patrick Doyle. This unique mystery is filled with delightfully unexpected twists and turns, quirky and off-beat characters, and has an absolutely wonderful ending. A tale of desire, deceit, and death indeed!"
