Book Review: Convenience Store Woman

Convenience Store Woman is the heartwarming and surprising story of thirty-six-year-old Tokyo resident Keiko Furukura. Keiko has never fit in, neither in her family, nor in school, but when at the age of eighteen she begins working at the Hiiromachi branch of “Smile Mart,” she finds peace and purpose in her life. In the store, unlike anywhere else, she understands the rules of social interaction ― many are laid out line by line in the store’s manual ― and she does her best to copy the dress, man...

Book Review: The Last Wish

Geralt the Witcher—revered and hated—is a man whose magic powers, enhanced by long training and a mysterious elixir, have made him a brilliant fighter and a merciless assassin. Yet he is no ordinary murderer: his targets are the multifarious monsters and vile fiends that ravage the land and attack the innocent.

But not everything monstrous-looking is evil and not everything fair is good… and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth.

Season Review: Castlevania, Season 3

It’s fair to say that Season 1 and 2 of Castlevania were worthy of the titles Entertaining and Thrilling; however, Season 3 was a whole new realm, literally.

Season 3 of Castlevania not only brought forth a sisterly coven of powerful female vampire rulers, but it also introduced a town’s church harboring a fascination with the work of Dracula and Hell. While we were focused on Dracula in the past, now our main characters have to sort through the rise of Carmilla’s court, the Night Creatures, ...

What Episode 2 of Loki Means for Loki’s Fate

In the previous episode of Loki, we were introduced to the Time Variance Authority, the TVA, and discovered the “true timeline.” Loki, like so many other Lokis, is a variant himself and, upon being captured by the TVA, is now under the surveillance of Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson).

Under a wild run from Agent Mobius and other TVA soldiers, Loki watches his predetermined future, which is the fate we saw in the Marvel movies. This ultimately ends with his death at the hands of Thanos.

Knowing h...

Book Review: They Both Die at the End

Adam Silvera reminds us that there’s no life without death and no love without loss in this devastating yet uplifting story about two people whose lives change over the course of one unforgettable day.

On September 5, a little after midnight, Death-Cast calls Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio to give them some bad news: They’re going to die today.

Mateo and Rufus are total strangers, but, for different reasons, they’re both looking to make a new friend on their End Day. The good news: There’s an ap...

Ways to Help the Asian American Community

With everything that has been brought to light during the pandemic, Asian American hate has been brought to the forefront these past few months. According to Rep. Grace Meng (D-Flushing), “the amount of reported anti-Asian hate crimes in the first three months of 2020 were nearly double the incidents of the last two years combined.” Also, the NYPD reported “hate crimes motivated by anti-Asian sentiment jumped by 1,900 percent in the last year.” There are several causes of these outbreaks of hate...

How To Balance Work And Goals

I was a hard-worker and a go-getter before I knew that those were words for a resume. I always have turned in homework way earlier than needed and done the extra credit. I enjoy a calendar that is filled with color-coded appointments and a to-do list teaming with tasks. However, I have experienced several eye-opening… Continue reading How To Balance Work And Goals
