I love a scary book with a puzzle in the plot. I just finished The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert and I need to get the second book in her series. How did you like The Practice? (less)

I read and write mostly horror, so I'd have to be careful where I visit. I suppose the world of Midnight, Texas in the novel Day Shift by Charlaine Harris would be a safer bet. I'd visit the pawnshop there and the cafe for some home cooking. I live in Texas, so I think I'd fit in too, even though I don't have any magical talents!(less)

The Cook in the Kitchen

Betty Norman held the dusty cookbook angled toward the sunlight spilling through the thrift shop’s window. Her husband Eustace tromped up behind her, his arms filled wi

Although I did enjoy this book, it fell short in some places. It is a portal fantasy, and there are chapters written in the point of view of an omniscient "storyteller" that give the novel the feel of a fairy tale, but at times this feels a bit intru ...more
