Author Update December 2020

Hey Guys,

We made it to December. What a year it’s been! Lots of things scary and new.

For those who may be new, welcome.

I release two articles a month on my blog: one being an update on all my author news, the other ranging from fantasy and sci-fi stories, D&D content, author encouragement, and writing advice. I encourage you to stick around if any of that interests you.

But without a further ado, here’s your latest fill on what I’ve been up to.

Vestige Audiobook

Great news! ...

November Author Update

Hey guys,

Just wanted to give my monthly update. Here’s your fill on the news.

Facebook group posts

As some of you may have noticed, I’ve made a few more posts on my Facebook author page. I thought it would be fun to posts poll and field questions for what you’d like to see for the next book in the Vestige Saga. The last post we voted for names of a fantasy creature called a shrink (a miniature half shrew half mink.)

The third contenders: Psyche, Filch and (Mc)-Tavish, duked it out, but no one s...

2020 SPFBO Finalists

Hey Guys,

I thought it would be nice to drop a link to the SPFBO finalists. The judges slaved away, and they deserve a pat on the back. I also struggled to find this info, so I thought it’d be nice repost it for someone else.

Fall Contest Results & Exciting New Editions

Hey Guys,

The results are in for Short Fiction Break Short story contest. The winner is

Haywire by Tze Chua for the grand prize.

The runners up are:

Sunlight and Snake Oil by Jessica Opalinski

Life With No LENS by Jennifer Palmer

Come Apart by Sarah Gribble, but under a pseudonym.

So sadly, I didn’t win, but I have another short story in my back pocket. I’m still proud of what I wrote and who knows? Maybe I’ll muster myself a collection after all’s said and done. Congrats to all those who placed...

October Author Update

Hey Guys,

Welp, fall is officially upon us and it’s time for another update.

The Vestige Saga

My editor should finish her mark up of Vestige Rise of the Pureblood soon.

After some feedback from the SPFBO judges and your encouragement, I decided to give it another pass. Following that, I might give it one final proofread before passing it to audiobook production. I’m not sure after all of this if there’s any back of house business like new copyright or ISBNs I have to handle, but I’m taking it on...

Creating characters

Hey guys,

I thought this would be an interesting post both as an author and dungeon master to discuss characters.

This post is to get the juices flowing and show all the wonderful ways you can populate your story.

So I normally start with a vague concept or how the character functions in the story. Both of them play off each other, but we’ll start with the former.

Character concepts

Normally for me this derives from some zany off the wall idea, or inspiration from another story, or with Dungeons...

September Author Update

Hey guys,

It’s that time again.

Before I start, thank you for all of your kind words a couple posts ago. I even received a few emails, which was very kind of you guys. Thank you.

I’m feeling better and I’ve kept moving forward. It wasn’t easy at first. There were days I didn’t want to get out of bed.

Now I determined to keep doing what I love and make the changes needed.

I received some advice on how to process it and take this feedback, so I’ve set up an action plan for the Vestige Saga.

The Pl...

Going Rogue

Hey Guys,

As I mentioned yesterday, I entered another short story contest, and this year’s theme was boundless.

As promised, Here’s a link to my own entry Going Rogue if you’re interested. I hope you like it. It’s about a robot discovering feelings and rising above its programming. I meant it as a heartfelt comedy.

Also, you guys have the lucky opportunity to vote for readers choice award. Be sure to check out many other stories including from fellow members of the Active Alumni: Cathy Ryan, J.H...

Author Update August 2020

Hey Guys,

I’ve been a little late in posting with some good reason. I’ve been writing. Lafonda and Leo: Heroes of the Land is coming along nicely.

Update on SPFBO

I want to make this post positive, but I’m not feeling the best right now. My review came back from the SPFBO through Fantasy Hive and it was disheartening and discouraging to say the least.

I didn’t think I’d win at all, but I didn’t expect it being that bad. Guess I can surprise myself.

The feelings mix between anger, frustration, an...
