The Aykler Report #20

2023 Launch Window

Well, that year went by fast! Looking in my mail program, I see that the last one of these I sent off was in March 2022. Truth is, I haven’t had much news to report since then. Traveled to about a dozen different countries. Got sick. Got better. Got sick again. Got better again.

Got stuck on a novella. Started another book. Set it aside. And started another. And now I’m finishing this one. It’s a shift from zombies to a Sci Fi Crime story set on a very wet planet. That’s all ...

The Aykler Report #19

Somehow Sri Lanka!

I am writing to you from the paradisiacal island in the Indian ocean that swallowed Arthur C. Clarke whole! He landed here on his way to Australia and never managed to pull himself away. I’m not all the way down this island’s proverbial gullet yet, but this amazing place has taken more than a small nibble out of my heart. I’ll leave here happier for having visited and sad if I don’t set my sights on returning someday.

In other news: we have another giveaway of my novella, Spe...

The Aykler Report #16 – Free Book Excerpt!

Greetings from the shores of the Adriatic!

I skipped last month’s newsletter. It was September. I was hot, tired, and moving around a lot. There were also sand fleas involved. Lots of sand fleas. They drained me of a substantial amount of blood. I lost count of the bites. 50+ is a conservative estimate.

Maybe it was a combination of the heat and the antihistamines or maybe I have a lazy streak a mile wide, but whatever the reason, I made no headway on my most recent Singleton novella. Tentative...

The Aykler Report #15 – Sooner Than I Thought

Greetings from the Pacific Coast of North America!

Here’s the thing: I sent last month’s newsletter late and I’m sending this one right on time (first Monday of the month). I was late last month because of my routine summer laziness. I am on time this month because I told a bunch of fellow indie authors I would.

I can’t honestly tell you that I am much further along on the new thing I hinted at last month, but I have some character sketches and outline elements in place. It may not look like it...

The Aykler Report #14 – Summertime and the Living is Creepy

Hello from North American mid-summer! I’m back in the states for a couple months before venturing out into the wider world.

Ah summer… Warm mornings. Hot afternoons. So many better excuses for letting laziness get the better of me.

Afternoon hours lost to the gentle swinging crescent of the nearest available hammock. Rising to fill myself on over-sauced barbecued hotdogs, seven layer dip, and the kind of beer that reminds me of uncles (mine and others) telling jokes they shouldn’t around the ca...

The Aykler Report #13 – Happy Summer of Monsters!

I hope you are ready to get out and shake off the Covid-19 blues, because there are some great beach reads coming at you. But none of them need to cost you a penny.

I’m part of two book giveaways this month. That’s right two! And they are both full of interesting finds. Beware! I call these SPF100 books: so good, you will lose track of time and might come away sunburned by the time its all over.

Running Out of Time: Fantasy & Science Fiction Stories
Where the Heroes Race the Clock

Monsters & A...

The Aykler Report #12 – Cinco de WHAT?

One of my favorite days of the year is upon us! I don’t need an excuse to eat tacos and drink Mexican beer with lime, but the world has given me one anyway. Thanks world!

If you don’t know or can’t remember what Cinco de Mayo is all about, may I suggest reading my first book, Cinco de Zombie. In the midst of some fun zombie mayhem, Sid gives a nice run down of the historical essentials and why you might want to order up a round of tacos and raise a cerveza in its honor.

To help celebrate and spr...

The Aykler Report #11 – Green Thoughts on Green Zombies

The coming of Spring got me thinking. Dangerous, I know, but I can’t help myself. It’s an addiction. I’m thinking a lot about all the green things coming up out of the ground. They were all buried, lost and left for dead last Autumn. And now, here they are again, full of life and growing all over everything.

All this resurrection behavior makes me think of zombies. (Honestly, what doesn’t?) But this time, I’m thinking about green zombies. You know, the ones you see on funny Halloween cards or in...
