Fear And Promises
Do Not Fear
Fear can cripple and hold us back from living out our purpose. God desires for you to intentionally employ your design (vision) to accomplish your mission (Matthew 28:18-20)
God commands us not to fear and then lays out his incredibly powerful promises.
I AM WITH YOU. When God gave us our mission He told us that He would be with us even to the end of the age. It is great encouragement that we are not alone.
I AM YOUR GOD. There are well over 80 places in scripture where the LORD proclaims, “I am the LORD your God..” Why so many? We forget. What is the result? We need not be anxious. He’s over any giant we are facing.
I WILL STRENGTHEN YOU. Our strength has its limits. God can strengthen us far beyond those limits.
I WILL HELP YOU. Not only is the LORD present, He helps us. He carefully infuses His truth and grows us to maturity as He provides for our needs.
I WILL UPHOLD YOU. There are times when we have nothing left. All the wind is out of our sails and we collapse. The LORD catches us and upholds us in the midst of sheer exhaustion.
We need this reminder. Too many times our eyes are fixed on the situation we find ourselves in and not on Him. In fear, we frantically search for our own solution, forgetting God is LORD over all. All things are subject to Him. There is no reason to fear. He commands even the oceans.

Pray And Work
Our Work
The shepherds chose to trust in God’s provision and went to see the thing that was told to them (Luke 2:15)
Then end result, they went back, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen.
The same is true today when we go to the cross, hear, and see the mighty work Jesus has done there. Our trust in His provision ultimately results in praise and glory to God.
Our lives become living sacrifices(Romans 12:2) as we carry out our mission(Matthew 28:18-20) for the sake of the Gospel.
Some of our brothers and sisters around the give the ultimate sacrifice with their lives.
Today, let us remember them and lift them in prayer and do the good work God has prepared for us (Ephesians 2:10) right where we are.

Mary’s Mission And Vision
Mary knew her mission and vision
Mary clearly had the potential for one of the most stressful Christmases on record. She was with child and without husband which would have been would have been incredibly disgraceful and socially sanitizing.
On top of the social pressures, she had to take a long trip in the late stages of her pregnancy. What mother do you know that wouldn’t be concerned about this?
I’m sure her visit with Gabriel was still bouncing around in her head too. Think about this: She was giving birth to the Messiah and would be responsible for raising Him. Her life had already begun to be all about Him.
Despite the many unknowns, Mary trusted God. She kept her sights on what He had told her through the angel, Gabriel. She had a mission and now a clear vision of her part in it. It was simple, but not easy.
Fast forward the clock to present day. We have a mission that God has given us (Matthew 28:18-20) and He is guiding us to build a vision of our part in it. Our lives are to be all about Jesus as well.
When we fully embrace this truth, we experience joy that supersedes any trial or suffering. We have the endurance to press on confidently in our purpose and advance the Gospel.
Will you join me in gaining clarity in your mission and vision in 2020?

Passion And Purpose
I remember having childhood heroes of Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman. They were great, but I really wanted to find REAL life heroes I could model my life after.
I looked for people with integrity, character, and a sense of purpose. Sure there were people setting goals and achieving, but when I followed them long enough they had no sense of their purpose.
When I became a Christian, I began studying the Bible. Excitement came over me when I saw flawed men, like myself, be transformed by God as they humbly pursued Him with PURPOSE.
John the Baptist was one of those men. He had a more clear sense of his purpose than most. When pressed by the Pharisees, he confidently answered, “I am not the Christ”.
He was not looking for fame or a platform. Instead, He was there to prepare the way for Jesus. His whole life was lived for someone else.
There was no mid-life crisis for John mentioned in scripture. He was laser focused on his mission and pursued it to the point of death. That is the kind of unshakeable purpose and passion I wanted.
We, too, can have that kind of laser focus. We can avoid the mid-life crisis. We can wake every day with an unwavering sense of passion and purpose…when Christ is at the center of every part of our lives.
Is Jesus an after thought or is He at the center of all your plans?

God’s plan includes one word that differentiates Christianity from every other religion on the planet; Immanuel.
Religions all come with rules and expectations to obey. Only God’s plan has a Savior who has paid for our sins of disobedience and made a way for reconciliation.
Most, if not all religions, have a supreme being that oversees the universe. Only Christianity speaks of a loving God who desires to dwell with us, communicating our value, and expressing His love.
What we have been given is beyond special. Jesus left His place in heaven and “Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:8 NASB)
Without Immanuel (God with us) there could be no us with God.
Take time today praising God that He is loving, merciful, and chose to dwell with us. Apart from Him we are lost without Hope. With Him, our joy and hope is unending.

The Greatest Gift
This Christmas, take a moment to breathe and enjoy the gift that was given to you before you were even born.
Your biggest and most stressful problem you will ever face has already been solved in Jesus and His finished work at the cross. Don’t let that stress block the joy that is yours.
His word tells us:
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
Romans 8:18 ESV
Any sufferings we face are nothing compared to the amazing gift we have in Christ!
Keep perspective as you fight the crowds/WiFi speeds searching for the “perfect gift” knowing that the One, True Perfect Gift has already come to save us from our sins.

With God, All Things Are Possible
Faith is a process that requires impossible challenges to stimulate growth.
As I read this section of scripture today, two phrases stood out to me:
“He did not waiver in unbelief”
“But grew strong in faith”
It is possible to trust God with just a little faith. When we do we begin to see more and more of His faithfulness and our faith grows and is strengthened.
It’s must have come as quite a shock to Abraham that the LORD would promise him a child at The age of 99. Yet, Abraham “did not waiver in unbelief”. He knew in his mind that God was faithful and he clung to that truth with all he had.
As a result, his faith grew. If we are never in a position to trust God with the impossible, how strong can our faith really grow?
When we adopted our last sibling group of 9, it certainly challenged me personally with thoughts of impossibility based on my inadequacy Deep down I knew that God was ordaining this and that He can do all things.
As the days, weeks, and months went by, God further demonstrated His faithfulness and my faith was strengthened by leap last and bounds.
By faith, unwavering, trust Him today, with whatever ‘impossible’ things He is asking of you, and watch your faith be strengthened.

Love Like Jesus
Love is a word used for everything from baseball to macaroni and cheese, but it’s true meaning is much greater than our temporary desires.
Love is a willingness to sacrifice it all for the sake of another, even if that includes our own death.
Love is a conscious and intentional choice to put another person first.
Love moves us to a place of looking outside ourselves to the mission God has given us.
Because of the love Jesus loved us with at the cross, our sins are forgiven. We are now children of God; brothers and sisters in Christ.
What is our response? We ought to love our brothers and sisters with the same willingness Christ had to lay down His life for us.

What are you looking for?
There are many things in this fallen world that are frustrating. It seems that the enemy gets away with an awful lot.
Those whose hearts are spilling over with greed seem to be lifted up. Abusers, traffickers, and oppressors seem to be on the rise. Cancer and disasters have stolen the lives of so many of my friends in the last 5 years.
Where is the Lord in all of it? He is not absent and nothing escapes His view. His plan is not thwarted by the temporal actions of evil. His sovereignty is never shaken.
We don’t understand this because our minds can not see into the hearts of everyone on the planet as our Lord can.
His concern is reconciling His people to Himself at all costs so that we all have the opportunity to be with Him for eternity. This sometimes means even causing the evil deeds of man to be turned to good for the sake of His people that love Him.
For those who lived before Christ, they watched expectantly for God to fulfill His promise of salvation. For those of us born after the cross, we see that He has indeed provided salvation through Jesus.
Now we wait expectantly for Him to come again. What a glorious day that will be!

Imperfect In The Light
There comes a point n every Christian’s life where they have to examine themselves and see what their true desires are. Are they desiring to walk in the light or darkness?
We will find that the opportunity to do good and evil exists in each of us.
We are not victims of our minds. We can consciously make a decision that following Jesus is better than whatever sin tempts us.
Through it all, our only hope is Jesus. We walk in the light, imperfect. The longer we walk there, the more cleansing takes places.
