Declutter Your Space, Clear Your Mind!
Have you ever decluttered something as seemingly trivial as a kitchen junk drawer and felt an immediate sense of emotional relief?
Or what about the feeling of accomplishment when you finally deal with that pile of unopened mail?
And then there’s the amazing boost of energy you get when you unpack the boxes that have been sitting in your basement since the day you moved in three years ago.
When we think of decluttering, we often focus on the physical benefits of a less cluttered and more organized space. But the greater impact is how decluttering your physical environment clears your mind.
How Clutter Affects Your Mind and EmotionsWe’ve all been there—overwhelmed, stressed, and anxious about the amount of stuff we’ve accumulated, wondering how it ever got to this point. Yet, there you are, stuck in a sea of clutter—whether it’s your closet, your desk, or your mudroom.
When our spaces are cluttered, our minds feel cluttered too. It can feel like we’re drowning in a never-ending cycle of stuff, with no clear direction or ability to focus.
In many ways, our minds mirror our environment. A cluttered home leads to a cluttered mind.
The impact of clutter is no secret—it can affect our productivity and well-being:
We waste time searching for our phone, keys, or remote control. We waste money buying duplicates of items we already own.We carry the mental weight of unopened mail or boxes, preventing us from fully relaxing.Even out-of-sight clutter—like a messy junk drawer or an unorganized closet—lingers in our subconscious, adding to our mental to-do list. This often leads to procrastination, avoidance, and mounting frustration—not just for you but for others in your home as well.
Need Some Meaningful Gift Ideas Without the Clutter?Browse now: Rita’s 2024 GIFT GUIDEDecluttering: A Path to Emotional FreedomClutter can hold us back from living the life we truly want. When our homes are cluttered, we feel stuck, guilty, and even embarrassed to invite friends or family over. It’s a silent obstacle that affects our happiness and quality of life.
Fortunately, the solution is simpler than you might think: just start. Begin with one drawer, one shelf, or one closet.
This small step creates a powerful snowball effect. Decluttering a junk drawer can lead to tackling that pile of unread mail and eventually addressing those unopened boxes in the basement.
Each item you declutter not only clears your physical space but also unburdens your mind. With every step, you’ll feel lighter, more focused, and free to prioritize what truly matters in your life.
Discover the Peace of a Clutter-Free LifeDecluttering isn’t just about creating a clean, organized space; it’s about experiencing the emotional benefits of simplicity. A clutter-free environment brings peace of mind, renewed energy, and a sense of control over your life.
When you remove the things that were weighing on your mind—even if they were out of sight—you free up mental energy for what’s truly important. You’ll stop wasting time searching for misplaced items and start focusing on your goals and passions.
Once you declutter and simplify your space, you’ll discover the joy of living with less—and you’ll never want to go back!
Now that’s motivating!

Conquer Clutter Magnets: 5 Tips to Keep Your Home Tidy and Organized
Hi, I’m Rita Wilkins, the Downsizing Designer, and welcome back to the companion blog to my “Five in Five” video series, where I share five decluttering tips in five minutes to help you simplify your life. Today, we’re tackling one of the sneakiest sources of household clutter: clutter magnets. Even in the tidiest homes, there are certain spots where clutter seems to magically accumulate—like that one chair in the bedroom or the kitchen counter. These clutter hotspots can make your home look messy and feel chaotic, but don’t worry! I’ve got five effective strategies to help you identify and eliminate clutter magnets for good.
Ready to conquer those clutter magnets? Let’s dive into each tip!
1. Identify the Hot SpotsThe first step in managing clutter magnets is to identify the hotspots in your home. Walk through each room and take note of the areas where items tend to pile up. These could be:
The kitchen counter The dining room table A chair in the bedroom that’s often draped with clothesOnce you know where clutter tends to gather, you can take action to break the cycle and keep these areas clear. Knowing your clutter magnets is the first step in reclaiming these spaces and keeping them tidy.
2. Create Clear ZonesAfter identifying your clutter magnets, the next step is to create clear zones in these areas to prevent clutter buildup. Designate a specific landing spot for the items that typically accumulate in each area. For example:
Place a decorative tray by the front door for keys and mail. Set up a designer basket in the family room for magazines and remotes. Use a small dish or drawer for loose change and small items.By giving each item a designated place, you’ll keep your home organized and prevent clutter from spreading. Clear zones create a system that makes it easy to find what you need and keep items from piling up randomly.
3. Implement the One-Touch RuleOnce your clear zones are set up, it’s time to establish the One-Touch Rule. This rule means that when you pick something up, you immediately put it where it belongs. Deal with each item right then and there, whether that’s placing it in its designated spot, filing it, or discarding it.
The One-Touch Rule is a powerful habit that keeps clutter from accumulating. By handling items once, you prevent them from becoming part of a pile and turning into another clutter magnet. This small, intentional action makes a big difference in keeping your space tidy and organized.
4. Schedule a Weekly SweepEven with the best systems in place, clutter can still sneak in. That’s why a weekly sweep is essential. Set aside 10 to 15 minutes each week to tidy up your clutter magnets. This involves:
Clearing any items that don’t belong. Resetting each zone to its tidy, organized state.A weekly sweep is like a mini reset that keeps your home neat and prevents clutter from becoming overwhelming. This routine helps maintain the order you’ve worked hard to establish, so your home stays organized week after week.
5. Get the Family On Board (And Make It Fun!)Finally, one of the most effective ways to manage clutter magnets is to get your family involved. Without everyone’s support, clutter will continue to accumulate no matter how many systems you put in place. Here’s how to make it a fun family project:
Label each clutter magnet zone, and even come up with a fun name for each one. Make it a challenge for everyone to keep these areas clutter-free. Offer rewards like a favorite family dinner or a fun outing for keeping the zones clean.Getting your family on board turns decluttering into a shared responsibility. When everyone is invested, it’s easier to keep clutter magnets under control, and your home feels more organized and enjoyable for everyone.
Making Clutter Control a Habit Decluttering isn’t just about creating clear spaces—it’s about maintaining them. By identifying your clutter magnets, creating designated zones, and involving your family, you can turn these once-messy areas into organized, functional parts of your home. Small, consistent efforts make a big impact, transforming your home into a place of calm, order, and simplicity.

5 Top Secrets to Beat Decision Fatigue with Fewer Choices
By Rita Wilkins October 25, 2024 Lifestyle
Do you feel overwhelmed by the countless decisions you face every day? From the moment you crawl out of bed to the moment you put your head on the pillow at night, Psychology Today estimates that you make more than 2,000 decisions each working hour – one every two seconds! And that’s just an average day.
Now, imagine if you’re trying to downsize, declutter, or design your kitchen. No wonder you’re experiencing decision fatigue! In this fast-paced world, where we’re bombarded with endless information and way too many choices, decision fatigue is a real phenomenon that affects all of us. It can take a toll, impacting our emotional and mental well-being.
When faced with too many choices, decision fatigue sets in, manifesting in some common signs:
Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or hopelessDifficulty focusingMentally and physically drainedBrain fogAvoidance and procrastinationImpulsive or rash decisionsIrritability, especially with your own indecisivenessWhat Triggers Decision Fatigue?Information OverloadHaving access to endless streams of information on the internet, TV, social media, and advertisements can easily lead to decision fatigue.
Too Many ChoicesWhile we all like having options, too many choices can lead to confusion, indecision, and poor decision-making.
PerfectionismExpecting perfection can lead to overthinking, overanalyzing, and overcomplicating decisions. It slows down the process and adds to anxiety, frustration, and the fear of making the wrong choice.
Top 5 Secrets to Beat Decision FatigueSecret #1: Set Clear GoalsClear goals help you prioritize decisions. Know what you want to accomplish – this will help narrow down your options, allowing you to focus on what matters most.
Example: ABC’s of Downsizing
A simple tool I use to help my design clients make important choices when downsizing their homes involves labeling large items as follows:
A items: Items you definitely want to keep and bring to your new, smaller home.B items: Items you’d like to take if they fit and look good in your new space.C items: Items you don’t want, don’t need, or won’t use – these are okay to donate, dispose of, or recycle.
Secret #2: Create Daily Routines and HabitsCreating daily routines and habits for routine decisions helps automate your choices, saving time, conserving mental energy, and limiting the number of decisions you need to make each day.
Example: Capsule Wardrobe
Having a small, versatile wardrobe that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of outfits reduces decision fatigue because you have fewer clothing choices to make daily.
Secret #3: Filter Your OptionsEliminate options that aren’t viable or realistic.
Example: Budget Filter
How much money are you willing or able to spend on something – a vacation, a house, a computer, or a home renovation? A budget filter helps you quickly screen out unrealistic options – things you can’t afford or don’t want to spend too much money on.
Secret #4: Streamline Choices/The Magic of 3Narrowing down your decisions to several viable options simplifies the process and helps you make the best choice by weighing the pros and cons of each.
Example: The Magic of 3
When presenting to my design clients, I always offer three solid design options. Each is uniquely different but satisfies my clients’ needs and “wish list.” For example, in a kitchen renovation, we might have three different designs:
One that keeps the existing wall structure. One that removes an adjoining dining room wall. One that removes both the dining room wall and the family room wall to open up the entire area.Three different designs, three different budgets, and three different results. The client gets to choose what matters most to them and what works best for their lifestyle. By narrowing it down to three designs, it becomes easier to decide, and it helps move the project forward.
Secret #5: Timing Is EverythingSave important decisions for when you feel most alert – research shows this is usually within 1 to 3 hours after waking up. This also helps reduce the likelihood of procrastination.
If you suffer from decision fatigue, either regularly or just occasionally, applying these 5 simple strategies can help you regain control, reduce or eliminate decision fatigue, and make better choices for a happier, more fulfilling life.

Staying Motivated to Declutter: 5 Tips to Keep You on Track
Hi, I’m Rita Wilkins, the Downsizing Designer, and welcome to this extended companion blog to my “Five in Five” video series. Here, we go beyond the quick tips to dive deeper into strategies that can help you stay motivated on your decluttering journey. If you’re struggling with getting started or staying on track, you’re definitely not alone! Decluttering can feel like a big challenge, but with the right mindset, it can be both manageable and rewarding.
Let’s break down five powerful tips that can keep you motivated as you work toward creating a clutter-free, peaceful home.
1. Think Big: Envision the End ResultOne of the best ways to motivate yourself is to start with the big picture in mind. Visualize what your home will look and feel like once it’s fully decluttered. Imagine each room—your master bedroom, family room, mudroom—as peaceful, organized, and clutter-free. Think about how a simplified space will positively impact your daily life, bringing a sense of calm, order, and ease to you and your family.
Keeping this vision in your mind as you work can serve as a powerful motivator. When you’re able to see your end goal clearly, the journey feels more purposeful, and each step you take brings you closer to that serene, organized home.
2. Think Small: Break It Down into Manageable StepsWhile it’s important to think big, it’s equally crucial to think small to prevent overwhelm. Break down your decluttering tasks into smaller, achievable steps. Instead of tackling an entire room, focus on just one drawer, shelf, or nightstand. Each small area you complete is a step forward, giving you a sense of accomplishment without feeling overwhelmed by the bigger picture.
This approach helps you build momentum. Every drawer or shelf you organize is a small win, and those wins add up, making it easier to stay consistent and motivated.
3. Think Hardest: Start with the Most Challenging AreaSometimes, the best way to get motivated is to tackle the area you dread the most. Think hardest and start with the place that’s been looming on your to-do list for ages, whether it’s the basement, garage, home office, or a particularly cluttered closet. Once you complete this challenging area, you’ll feel an enormous sense of relief and accomplishment.
When you conquer your most difficult space first, it takes a huge weight off your shoulders and proves that you can handle the rest. Plus, checking that toughest task off your list can give you a big confidence boost to keep going.
4. Think Easiest: Build Momentum with Quick WinsOn the flip side, sometimes it’s best to think easiest and start with areas that require minimal effort but offer quick rewards. These could be spaces you rarely use, like a guest room closet or a hall bathroom. Decluttering these easier spaces allows you to check them off your list quickly, proving that progress is possible.
Quick wins like these build positive momentum, making it easier to tackle the more challenging spaces down the line. When you see how simple and satisfying it can be to complete these smaller tasks, it reinforces the belief that you can achieve your larger decluttering goals.
5. Think Impact: Focus on High-Impact AreasFor lasting motivation, identify high-impact areas in your home—spaces that, if consistently organized, will have a noticeable effect on your daily life. These might be places where clutter builds up quickly, like your kitchen countertop, family room floor, or nightstand.
Create a daily five-minute routine to focus on these clutter hotspots. For example, each night before bed, spend five minutes clearing these high-impact areas. This small habit makes a huge difference in keeping your home feeling organized and welcoming, even if other areas still need attention. Seeing the immediate impact of these cleared spaces can keep you motivated to maintain and expand your clutter-free zones.
Making Decluttering a Motivational Journey Remember, motivation in decluttering doesn’t come from perfection or quick fixes. It comes from a steady, consistent approach and finding ways to celebrate small wins along the way. Whether you’re thinking big and imagining your end goal, breaking tasks into small steps, or focusing on high-impact areas, these tips will help you build and maintain the motivation you need to create a clutter-free home.

Ditch The Clutter Now If You Want a Simpler Life
Do you ever feel stuck in a rut? You desperately want to declutter, maybe even downsize to a smaller home, but mostly, you just want a simpler life—one that’s:
Less hecticLess stressfulFilled with more peace and freedomAnd yet, as you look around your home, you do nothing. You feel so overwhelmed by the amount of clutter that a simpler, organized life seems like an impossible dream.
STOP! Let me assure you, it is possible. I did it, and so can you.
When I first started my decluttering and downsizing journey, I remember sitting on the floor of my family room, crying, feeling like the task was insurmountable. I was paralyzed by so many emotions.
Then I asked myself, “Where do I start?”
Starting Small, Creating ChangeIt was that one question that moved me to take action. I knew I wanted a simpler life with less, and if I wanted it badly enough, I had to start somewhere.
I walked into my library, lined with wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, and decided to declutter one shelf at a time. One shelf, one drawer at a time became my mantra.I knew I could do it as long as it was manageable—as long as I took it in bite-sized pieces.Looking at the project as a whole, I became overwhelmed and defeated. But over a year, I intentionally decluttered my entire 5,000-square-foot home, giving away 95% of my belongings so I could move into an 867-square-foot one-bedroom apartment in the city.
Soon after I moved, I remember looking around my beautiful jewel-box apartment and realizing how much simpler and more peaceful my life had become. With so much less to care for and maintain, I now had:
More timeMore freedomMore energy to do the things I had always wanted to doIn that moment, I realized I did it! I overcame the overwhelm and emotional attachment to my stuff. I was finally living the life I had dreamed of.
All I had to do was say yes to decluttering—just one shelf, one drawer at a time.
If I could do it, so can you!

Minimalist Parenting: Decluttering Tips to Instill Minimalist Values in Your Kids
Hi, I’m Rita Wilkins, the Downsizing Designer, and welcome back to the extended companion blog to my “Five in Five” video series, where I provide five expert decluttering tips in just five minutes. Here, we dive a little deeper into each tip, giving you even more insight and strategies for simplifying your life. Today’s focus is for all the minimalist parents out there who want to maintain a clutter-free home while embracing the joys—and challenges—of parenting.
If you’re striving to keep your space organized and instill minimalist values in your kids, this guide is for you! Parenting and minimalism may seem like opposites, but with a few strategies, you can teach your children to appreciate a clutter-free environment and help them grow up with the values of simplicity, responsibility, and mindfulness.
1. Involve Your Kids in the Decluttering ProcessDecluttering isn’t just an activity—it’s a valuable skill that can become a habit with practice. Involve your kids in choosing what stays and what goes by letting them select books, clothing, or toys to donate or pass down. When children have a say in what they keep, they feel a sense of ownership over their things and develop important life skills like decision-making and empathy for others. Involving them in the process gives them control over their belongings and helps them learn to let go.
2. Make Decluttering a GameKids respond well to fun, so turn decluttering into a game to keep them engaged. Here are a few ways to gamify the process:
Play their favorite music to create a fun atmosphere. Set a timer for five minutes and challenge them to find as many toys they no longer play with. Reward their efforts with a celebration once they’ve completed the task.Start small with a short timer and gradually extend the game as they get the hang of it. When decluttering is enjoyable, kids are more likely to embrace tidiness and even look forward to it.
3. Give Everything a HomeOne of the most effective ways to encourage kids to keep their space organized is to teach them how to give each item a designated “home.” Children love cubbies and compartments, so let them organize their toys and books just like they do at school. Encourage them to sort their items by category—cars, dolls, trucks—and ask them where each group should live. When everything has a designated spot, kids are more likely to put things away consistently, creating a sense of routine and pride in keeping their space neat.
4. Establish a Daily and Weekly Cleanup RoutineConsistency is key when it comes to maintaining an organized space. Set up a daily and weekly routine to make tidying up a natural part of their day. For example:
Before bedtime, set a five-minute timer and encourage them to put everything back where it belongs. This helps them start each day with a clean and organized space. At the end of each week, offer a small reward for keeping their area tidy. For seasonal decluttering (like back-to-school or holidays), introduce a “Santa Bag” or similar themed clean-up to make donating fun and purposeful. These routines teach kids the value of consistency and give them a sense of pride in a well-organized space.
5. Reduce the Toy OverloadOne of the biggest challenges of minimalist parenting is controlling the number of toys. Did you know that the average American toddler has 139 toys, and a 10-year-old has about 248? This overabundance often leads to overstimulation, making it difficult for kids to engage deeply with any one toy.
Here are some ways to manage toy overload:
Rotate Toys Weekly: Switch out toys weekly to keep things fresh while limiting the clutter. Limit Incoming Toys: Communicate with family members about your minimalist approach to keep new toys to a minimum. Teach Financial Responsibility: If your child wants a new toy, have them contribute by saving up for it.When kids have fewer toys, they can explore each one in-depth, fostering creativity and focus. Less really is more, and it encourages children to value what they have.
Raising a New Generation of MinimalistsMinimalist parenting is an opportunity to instill values that will benefit your children throughout their lives. By involving them in the decluttering process, making tidying fun, and establishing a routine, you’re teaching them how to manage their environment with respect and care. You’re also giving them the tools to live with less and appreciate the simplicity of a clutter-free space.
So the next time you step on a stray toy or find yourself overwhelmed by kid clutter, remember this: every effort you make to reduce and organize is helping to create a new generation of minimalists—kids who understand the beauty of simplicity and the joy of living with only what they truly need.

Online shopping has become an integral part of our daily lives across all generations. With just a few clicks, you can have almost anything you want or need delivered to your door the next day.
No wonder this huge temptation has led to online shopping becoming such a prevalent issue in this digital age.

At any time of day or night, one click can lead to another and then another. Before you know it, you’ve spent more money than you intended. This leads not just to overspending, but also to overbuying and an accumulation of unnecessary items.
As fun as it might be to see an Amazon package on your doorstep, the constant influx of packages can also lead to guilt, buyer’s remorse, and even marital disputes.
Emotional TriggersImpulse online shopping is frequently triggered by our emotions:
Fear of missing out on a good dealBoredom, loneliness, anger, or stressSocial influence or the desire to fit inIt’s easy to get triggered when mindlessly shopping on the internet and social media. In a weak moment, you click “buy now.”
Targeted AdsTargeted ads are another major culprit when it comes to online shopping temptation. Advertisers use sophisticated algorithms to target our specific interests and demographics, encouraging us to click the “buy now” button.

Mastering Paper Clutter: A Simple System for a Clutter-Free Home
Hi, I’m Rita Wilkins, the Downsizing Designer, and today I’m diving deeper into one of the most persistent forms of clutter: paper. Even with online banking and e-statements, it’s amazing how quickly paper can pile up and create chaos in our homes. From bills and junk mail to receipts and magazines, paper clutter can be overwhelming. But with a few intentional strategies, you can conquer paper clutter once and for all.
In my “Five in Five” series, I shared five essential tips to tackle paper clutter. Let’s break down these steps in more depth to give you a complete guide for taking control of paper clutter and creating a system that works long-term.
1. The Drop Zone: Designate One Space for PaperThe first step in managing paper clutter is to establish a single Drop Zone—one dedicated spot in your home where all paper goes the moment it arrives. Ideally, this should be somewhere easy to access, like a desk in your home office or a corner in the kitchen. It should be a place where you can quickly and consistently drop all incoming paper without creating multiple piles throughout the house.
Here’s why this works: having a designated Drop Zone helps prevent paper from spreading to your dining table, nightstands, or countertops. By creating one central place, you can avoid the “out of sight, out of mind” trap. Make it a habit to use this spot daily to ensure you’re staying on top of new papers coming in, rather than letting them accumulate in random areas around the house.
2. Dump the Junk: Sort Daily to Prevent PilesJunk mail, unsolicited flyers, takeout menus—these are the culprits that can quickly turn a neat Drop Zone into an overwhelming mess. Set aside a few minutes each day to sort and dispose of junk mail immediately. This includes shredding sensitive materials, tossing out unwanted mail, and recycling any unneeded flyers or pamphlets.
Dealing with junk mail right away is crucial. Letting it sit, even for a few days, can create a pile that’s harder to manage. If you make it a daily habit, this small step will help keep paper clutter under control. Think of it as “decluttering in real time,” eliminating the need for major clean-up sessions later.
3. Sort It Out: Create a Three-Tier System for OrganizationSorting paper clutter can be simplified with a three-tier system. Here’s how to set it up:
Tier One: Time-Sensitive ItemsPlace urgent items in the top tier, like bills, invitations, or anything that requires immediate action. This way, you can quickly access these important documents without sifting through a pile. Tier Two: Regularly Accessed Documents
Use the second tier for documents you refer to often, such as recent medical bills, tax deductions, or current insurance information. This keeps important documents handy without creating clutter. Tier Three: Important but Infrequent Documents
The bottom tier is for essential documents that you don’t access regularly but need to keep safe, like passports, car titles, and legal records. Consider using labeled folders for these items so they’re easy to find when needed.
This system not only keeps your papers organized but also helps you quickly locate items without needing to dig through stacks. By categorizing your paper this way, you’ll have a structure that’s easy to maintain and intuitive to follow.
4. The Catch-All Basket: Contain Larger Papers and MagazinesFor larger papers like magazines, journals, and newspapers, designate a catch-all basket within your Drop Zone. This basket is for larger items that may not fit neatly in your tiered bin, such as catalogs or bulkier publications. Having a specific place for these larger items will help keep your main Drop Zone clear and free from overflow.
Schedule time once a week to sort through this basket, deciding what to keep and what to toss. Try to use or read these items within a week—anything that’s left unread or unused after that can likely be recycled or donated. This way, you can enjoy the materials that interest you without letting them become permanent fixtures in your home.
5. The Weekly Clean Sweep: Review, Organize, and DiscardThe Clean Sweep is the final step in managing paper clutter, and it’s the “magic” step that brings everything together. Once a week, set aside a dedicated time to go through each item in your Drop Zone and Catch-All Basket. This process should include:
Reviewing time-sensitive documents: Pay bills, RSVP to invitations, and take care of any pressing matters. Organizing regularly accessed documents: Place these papers in labeled folders by category (e.g., medical bills, tax information, insurance documents) and store them in a filing cabinet or drawer. Securing important documents: For documents like car titles, legal records, and passports, consider scanning copies to store in a secure cloud-based system. Physical copies can go in a locked safe or safe deposit box for extra security. Reading or recycling larger items: Use, donate, or recycle magazines and newspapers by the end of the week to prevent them from accumulating. In addition, consider unsubscribing from unnecessary paper mail to further reduce what enters your home. Opting for online subscriptions and paperless billing wherever possible can minimize the amount of paper clutter, making your weekly Clean Sweep even easier to maintain.
Making Paper Clutter Management a Habit Curing paper clutter chaos is all about creating habits that fit naturally into your routine. With these five steps—Drop Zone, Dump the Junk, Sort It Out, Catch-All Basket, and Weekly Clean Sweep—you’re setting up a sustainable system that’s easy to stick with.
Managing paper clutter is about creating space, not just in your home but also in your mind. When you organize your papers and eliminate the chaos, you free up mental energy to focus on what truly matters. Paper clutter no longer has to be a constant battle; it can be a well-managed system that supports a simpler, more intentional lifestyle.

5 Reasons Why a Simple Life with Less Is One of the Best Gifts You Can Ever Give Yourself
The busy holiday season is almost here. Will this year be like holidays past, where you’re so caught up in preparing, shopping, and wrapping gifts that there’s little time left to simply enjoy it?
Have you been wondering what life would be like if it were just simpler?
Less cluttered?Less overwhelming?Less stressful?Imagine having…
More time to enjoy your family and friends.More space on your calendar to prioritize yourself and your well-being.More freedom to create new experiences and memories. It’s the season of giving. Why not give yourself the gift of a simpler life with less?
1. The Gift of Fewer CommitmentsThink twice before saying yes to every invitation or task. Ask yourself if it will take away from the quality time you want to spend with family, friends, and even yourself.
Set a vision for the simple life you desire and the holiday traditions you want to cherish. Put these priorities on your calendar—and let nothing else get in the way.
2. The Gift of Less ClutterClear the physical clutter in your home to make it more functional, peaceful, and enjoyable. Free up space by keeping only those things that add true value to your life, and let go of anything that detracts from a simpler, more meaningful life.
3. The Gift of Unstructured TimeLeave white space on your calendar for doing nothing, for creating, or for exploring. Our brains need time to ponder and wander, to be spontaneous, and to savor life’s little surprises.
Intentionally step away from busyness, deadlines, and agendas. Unstructured time is essential for cultivating a simpler life.
4. The Gift of Self-CareA simpler life with less allows you to prioritize yourself.
Your health, exercise, sleep, and relaxation.Your happiness and well-being.Your self-discovery and personal growth.Without these, we cannot live fully. Self-care helps remove the things that create stress, anxiety, and overwhelm, making room for happiness, contentment, and growth.
5. The Gift of ContentmentA sense of peace and contentment arises when you choose to live a simpler life with less. It’s a comfort and satisfaction with who you are, where you are in life, and what you have. You are enough. You have enough.
Contentment and peace foster gratitude and happiness, helping you focus on what truly matters.
When it comes to the gift of living with less, there’s no one-size-fits-all. This gift is unique to you, because you get to decide what you want less of in your life—and what you want more of.
That’s the magic of simple living!
