Talking to my Friends about Books: Helen Bridgett on Where the Crawdads Sing
I’m really enjoying my zoom chats with my friends about books, and this time I got to talk to Helen Bridgett, author of Summer at Serenity Bay and One By One about one of her favourite books, which, it turns out, is one of my favourites too – Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

Helen Bridgett
Having failed miserably with every New Year’s resolution that involved diets, one year, Helen Bridgett set herself a completely different goal – to write a novel and give it as a Christmas present. Having written one, she couldn’t stop!
2021 saw the publication of Helen’s debut crime novel featuring Professor Maxie Reddick. One by One was published in January by Ruby Fiction. Outside of writing, Helen loves being outdoors walking with the dog and enjoying a glass of wine and banter with friends.

Talking to my friends about books – Oliver Rogers on Inspector Rebus and Anna Karenina
As I love chatting to my friends about the books they’ve read, I’ve decided to record some of our discussions and share them with everyone.
Today’s guest is Oliver Rogers who I worked with at BBC Essex many years ago. He is a big fan of Ian Rankin’s Inspector Rebus novels, and his lockdown discovery has been Anna Karenina.

Since leaving BBC Local Radio in 2011 he has worked as a press officer in the water industry and is now a civil servant. He can be heard presenting Chelmsford Chatting between 12-2pm on Sundays on Chelmsford Community Radio 104.4FM (www.chelmsfordcommunityradio.com) with a wide selection of interview guests from the world of music and the arts. Oliver enjoys many genres of fiction, – not just crime! He has spent some of lockdown getting through a few classics and catching up on plenty of those books on the to read pile. He’s on Goodreads with reviews and keen to connect. [Goodreads link in full: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/48473367-oliver-rogers]

Talking to my Friends about Books: Lisa O’Sullivan – Rivers of London series
I really miss chatting to my friends and during the conversation getting onto the subject of books and what they’ve read recently. So I have decided to chat to them over Zoom about it and record their recommendations.
My friend Lisa O’Sullivan is Talk Sport’s Tennis Correspondent, a Sports Journalist and podcast maker and we first got to know each other because of books. She was Executive Producer of the Richard and Judy Book Club Podcast and I was Associate Producer for around ten years and every time we worked together, we were surrounded by novels. And of course we still natter about books when we catch up.
This is her lockdown reading experience. She’s enjoying a bit of armchair travelling to a mysterious side of London with Rivers of London, a series of books by Ben Aaronovitch

Talking to my friends about books: Deborah Stephenson – No 1 Ladies Detective Agency

Like every book lover, I thoroughly enjoy chatting to my friends about what they’ve been reading and why. And as many of us are reading even more avidly than ever due to the way we are living our lives at the moment, I don’t get the chance to do it so much. So I decided to organise some book talk with my mates in a new and occasional feature…..Talking to my friends about books…catchy title, I know. But that’s what it is.
Firstly, here’s my friend Deborah Stephenson, who’s enjoying some armchair travelling with No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith and The Good Thief’s Guide to..series by Chris Ewan
Deborah is training to be a coach and therapist with the “Ollie and his Superpowers” coaching organisation. Since lockdown she has been writing a fortnightly blog for the organisation which is published on the Lifelabs section of Psychologies Magazine website.
Deborah lives in Chelmsford and is married with two children. She is a Director at an Independent Prep School for boys, prior to that, she spent more than 20 years working in BBC Local Radio. She is passionate about what it is that makes us humans tick and how we can keep ourselves happy and healthy. She enjoys travel and exploring other cultures (although not so much since her children were born! and loves nothing better than settling down with a good book or heading to a tap dancing lesson!Just click on the link below to have a listenTalking to my friends about books – Deborah by Chris Penhall | Free Listening on SoundCloud
