The Impact of Blessed Ashes – "Spare us, O Lord" – a Deeper Life of Grace

Msgr. Sullivan – 1951 [source]

The tradition of receiving ashes on our foreheads is, today, so essential of an element of the Christian life that its call reaches even to those Catholics who, by their laxity, appear to no longer recognize the Voice of the Divine Shepherd.

The Chu...

What is the Roman Ritual? - A Deeper Life of Grace

This article is part of my initiative: "A Deeper Life of Grace - with the aid of the Sacramentals"

The Roman Ritual is a treasure trove of blessings and actual graces from God. It contains not only the Sacraments but also the ritual for holy water, blessed salt, blessed candles, blessing of statues and images, of fields and homes, and many others.

These blessed items are powerful tools for opening our souls to the work of grace. They are vehicles for healing, spiritual warfare, aid in developi...

CANDLES

"It was the true light that enlightens every man who comes into the world."

St. John, 1:9.

The Impact of Blessed Candles - a Deeper Life of Grace

Blessed candles are a remarkable sacramental, regarded as one of the chief sacramentals in the life of the faithful. As with all sacramentals, the efficacy of the blessing is dependent on the faith of the one who uses them. To obtain their full effect, we must be in a state of grace and use these in a spirit of prayer and lo...

In Real Danger - Cry Out To The Lord!

When the Apostles were at sea, and the Lord was asleep, St. Luke notes something very important for us to remember:"...they...were in danger."
When the Lord was asleep (which symbolizes His death and His time removed from us), the Apostles, in the midst of a great storm which was about to sink their boat and drown them, were truly afraid and in danger of succumbing to the madness of the elements.
What did they do?  They awakened the Lord from His apparent slumber!
How did they do it?  They cried ...
