ABTC…Slackerdom and Executive Decisions

I did not get much accomplished today in the way of revisions.  I did, however, get the promotional materials for the 57th Street Children's Book Fair and get my house straightened up so that it will be nice and neat when I return. I also made an executive decision.  After this latest round of touring, [...]

Absolutely True Confessions…Character Development

So more with the revisions, with a bit of promotional prep work thrown in.  For the last couple of days, I have been working on Charlie.  Charlie is one of the characters that was introduced in Interlopers, but who readers will get to know more as Nate gets to know her in book #2 (Book [...]

Absolutely True…Don't Judge a Book

I think that book #2 is going in a different direction, cover-wise from book #1. Don't get me wrong, I really like my book cover. To me, it is a very fantasy cover and it encourages the imagination.  On  the other hand, it does not really look like your average YA book cover.  Which looks [...]

ABT…The Art of the Author Appearance

Yesterday, I paused in my 30 day challenge to commemorate the victims on the 9/11 attacks.  I could not decided how to mark the occasion, whether I should continue with my blogging, whether I should do a tribute blog  in conjunction with Project 2,996.  In the end, I just decided to be silent. Today, in [...]

Absolutely True…Revisions

Authors don't get many days off.   Think that becoming a published author will get you out of your nine to five?  You may be right, if you are really lucky and very successful.  But even if you do end up with enough success to leave your day job behind, what you have traded it [...]

Absolutely True…

Yesterday and today were about publicity.  I am headed to Chicago for the 57th Street Children's Book Festival, and we were working on distributing materials to publicize that visit. Also, I got a confirmation for a fabulous conference in October–right around Halloween.  Check out my facebook page for more info on that. This is unpardonably [...]

Absolutely True Confessions…The Art of the Elevator Pitch

What you will find, as you begin to go to events where you have to talk about your work is that you will need to develop what is called an elevator pitch.  An elevator pitch, for those of you that don't know, is a 30 sec to 1 min description of your work.  You know, [...]

Absolutely True Confessions…Crafting the Author Persona

So, first, let me say that last night I attempted to draw pictures for potential costumes from my book: namely the Bastion's robes and the P. E. suit.  Unfortunately, the pictures looked nothing like the images in my mind and I refuse to do the ideas the great disservice of posting such mangled representations of [...]

Absolutely True Confessions…The Art of the Author Appearance

So, over the past couple of days I have been writing around preparing for the Decatur Book Festival and a couple of times I mentioned that I wasn't sure what I was going to wear.   Now, I am a fan of clothes, I will admit it;  however, that's not why I gave my outfit so [...]
