Interview with Emma Lai

For those who like their romantic tales both titillating and sexy, you'll want to check out Emma Lai's new release, Twice is not Enough.

Emma, why don't you tell the readers a little about yourself.

Writing keeps me sane. Characters demand their stories be told and nag me incessantly until I comply. The characters are very insistent I remain faithful to their individual adventures. As a result, I write a range of genres and levels of heat. I never know what the next set of characters will demand!

Give us a sneak peek at Twice Is Not Enough.

After several disastrous engagements, Lady Minerva Peters is an expert at suppressing her own needs. Only in the darkness of night does she give in to her wanton desires with a fantasy lover.

In the middle of a crowded ballroom, she learns her father is not yet ready to let her fade into spinsterhood. Humiliated, she ducks into a dark alcove only to find out she's not alone. Her hiding spot is occupied by a captivating stranger. Before she can escape, the two become voyeurs to another couple's sexual rendezvous. The atmosphere heats up and so does her body, especially with the tempting offers whispered in her ear.

Will Minerva deny her needs once again or will she embrace the anonymity of their seclusion and finally explore her basic impulses and the startling attraction to the compelling mystery man?

What kind of woman is Lady Minerva Peters? What is her first impression of the mystery man in the alcove?

Lady Minerva Peters is a typical woman. She loves her family and strives to do what is right by them--sometimes to the point of neglecting her own happiness. That's what is so appealing about the mystery man in the alcove, she can indulge her own wants and desires, put herself first for once. The scene isn't about him, but her. She already has a picture in her head--that of her fantasy lover--so she doesn't need to know what the man looks like, only that he's there for her.

Without giving too much away, can you tell the readers about the hero of the story? Would he be a man you'd like to be with? What is his first impression of Lady Minerva Peters?

William is a wealthy, American merchant with a younger sister, who is a target for fortune hunters. As a dutiful brother, he can't let her hare off with a man who only loves her for her money, but as an indulgent brother, he tries to find ways to soften the blows--like by indulging her passion for horses. But, he is distracted from thoughts of business and his sister, the first moment he sees Lady Minerva Peters across the ballroom. All he can think about is indulging himself.

William might come off as a bit gruff and overbearing, but he's driven by his duty to and love for his family. He's also a man who isn't afraid to pursue what he wants. So, yes, he's definitely someone I could be with.

What made you decide to start a blog and what do you write about?

Two reasons. First, to promote my first book, His Ship, Her Fantasy. Second, to help promote fellow authors. Sometimes, I provide brief snippets into my life as a writer, but mostly I focus on spotlighting other authors. I vary the interviews depending on different topics that strike my interest. Recently I've asked about the writing process, but I'm also spotlighting memorable secondary characters in the coming months.

From Twice is Not Enough, the memorable secondary characters are the lovers being spied upon in the library. The couple obviously has an interesting history. I've been playing around with the idea of writing their story. Though, I'm also tempted to write the story of William's sister--she's never actually seen in Twice and that feels wrong somehow.

Do you have a favorite reference book or website?

Since I don't write one time period or genre, I don't have just one favorite book or website. Whatever area or time I'm targeting, I check my library to see if I have anything on the topic. (I have a degree in international relations, which studies history and culture and the impact on politics, so my library is full of history and cultural books.) If I need more info, then I hit the internet and Google to search for relevant information online.

What are your current projects and works in progress?

I have quite a few works in progress since I have to get scenes out of my head before they drive me crazy. However, once the initial scene plays out, stories often sit on the hard drive. I had two projects going, one romantic suspense and one contemporary erotica, but I recently abandoned the suspense. So, if I'm in the mood to write erotica, I'm working on the contemporary. If I'm in the mood for something else, I'm revisiting stories on my hard drive to see if one speaks to me.

What genre inspires your writing?

I read across genres: science fiction, fantasy, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, historical romance. I also read a lot of books on history and political thought. Never know where I might find something that sparks a story idea.

Interview with Belinda McBride

Belinda McBride writes tantalizing erotic tales and she's here today to tell us about her new release. Let's give her a warm welcome! Feel free to ask her questions or leave a comment, she'd love to hear from you.

Belinda, why don't you start with telling the readers a little bit about yourself.

Hi Karen, thank you for having me here today! I'm Belinda McBride, and I write erotic romance for Loose Id, Changeling Press, Passion in Print and Dreamspinner Press. I primarily write speculative fiction: science fiction, paranormal, that sort of thing. I also write several themes such as BDSM and LGBT as well as straight vanilla romance.

I live in far Northern California with my family and dogs, and have two adult daughters. When I'm not busy writing, I am on the dog show circuits with my Siberian Huskies.

What is your latest release? Without giving too much away, tell the readers about it.

My latest release is the novella 'Hunting Holly,' which is part of the upcoming Doms of Dark Haven 2: Western Night. This is a Truckee Wolves book, and as the title of the anthology suggests, it's a BDSM story. In this novella, Holly is a shy, damaged wolf who leaves her pack and the two men she loves in order to take control of her life. Many months later, Tex and Hunter track her to Dark Haven, where she's training as a Domme. Needless to say, her men are not only shocked, they're more than a little excited! LOL! From there, Tex and Hunter must take control of their mate and find the trust that's lacking in their relationship.

What inspired you to write this story?

Actually, the Doms of Dark Haven anthology was inspired when I accompanied Cherise Sinclair to a BDSM dungeon in San Francisco. We had such different perspectives of the evening that we decided to pitch an anthology to Loose Id; that's where we picked up Sierra Cartwright for our third member.

When I approached the second book, I knew I wanted to use the character Tex; he'd first been introduced in the book "Sex and Chocolate: Toxic." I also knew I wanted Tex to be part of a threesome. His character in Toxic is a bit of a man slut and a flirt, but he has great compassion for a small group of females the pack derisively calls the 'Crazy Girls.' They are females who have been subjected to abuse and torture, so they tend to be very anti-social. Of course, his love interest was one of them and his partner in the ménage is Hunter, who has his issues as well.

What do you find most rewarding about writing?

Well, first off, I'm doing something I love to do. Secondly, I'm making money doing it! That's hugely rewarding. Writing has given me some badly needed security as well. My 'day job' consists of caregiving a disabled family member, and the wages aren't all that great. It also keeps me at home most of the time, so writing is a perfect job for me.

What books have most influenced your life?

Wow, there's a huge list, but I'll hit a few. Black Beauty was the first novel I read, I was in the second grade at the time. One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn made me aware of the world outside of Shasta County and the US. Tolkien's Hobbit and Rings trilogy introduced me to epic fantasy. Georgette Heyer's "These Old Shades" and "Black Sheep" sort of gave me a taste for the anti-hero. Shall I keep going? LOL!

If you choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

He's not an erotic romance writer, but playwright/director Robert Soffian is the one who taught me to tap into my writing skills. In erotic romance, Lacey Savage, Beth Kery and Fiona Jayde were my support group and cheerleaders when I first got started.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

I write big. I find it difficult to produce a one-shot book, every person in a book has their own story. The book a reader actually purchases is the tip of an iceberg, there's a massive world for every story I write. That tends to take some time.

What are your current projects and works in progress?

I'm just finishing the sequel to the m/m space opera 'An Uncommon Whore.' This book is tentatively titled, "When I Fall." I'm putting together a m/f shifter story for Changeling Press, for their "Final Cut: Miami" multi-author series. There are a lot of other irons in the fire, but these two are most likely to show up next.

Tell the readers where they can find you:

My website is: http://www.belindamcbride.com

Is there anything else you'd like to tell the readers?

I will be attending the Lori Foster gathering in early June. I will also be attending the GayRomLit retreat in New Orleans this October. Look for me!

Belinda,

Thank you so much for being here with us today. I wish you the very best with your books!

Interview with India Drummond

Let's give a warm welcome to Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Fiction Author, India Drummond! Tell the readers a little about yourself:

I knew from age nine that writing would be my passion. Since then I've discovered many more, but none quite so fulfilling as creating a world, a character, or a moment and watching them evolve into something complex and compelling. I have lived in three countries and four American states, am a dual British and American citizen, and currently live at the base of the Scottish Highlands in a village so small its main attraction is a red phone box. In other words: paradise.

Without giving too much away, give us a teaser about your new release, Ordinary Angels.

Ordinary Angels is urban fantasy / paranormal romance novel in which Zoe Pendergraft falls in love with an angel, frees a soul from necromancers, releases a ghost trapped in the Void, and saves his living grandson from demons.

Most of Zoe's friends are dead, but she doesn't mind because they died long before she met them. Then one Tuesday night an angel takes her salsa dancing and turns her world upside down. Grim reality closes in when she discovers a body in her company's boiler room and Higher Angels accuse her best ghost friend of murder. Knowing she's the only one who can stand against them, Zoe resorts to lying, stealing and summoning. In the end, getting blood on her hands forces Zoe to question herself.

Tell us about the heroine of the story, Zoe Pendergraft. What kind of woman is she? What does she long for?

Zoe is a regular girl, if you don't count the fact that she sees ghosts. This includes her grandmother, whom she lives with. As things start to get strange in Zoe's life, which happens as soon as she meets Alexander, she tries her best to do the smart thing, but it isn't always clear what the smart thing is.

Tell us about the angel who loves to salsa dance. Why did he seek out Zoe?

Alexander met Zoe by coincidence. He was trying to save the life of a postman, and so he took his route for a day. This led him to the office where Zoe worked. But from the very first time he saw her, he could tell she wasn't exactly normal, so he wanted to find out what it was that set her apart from other humans.

What inspired you to write this urban fantasy/ paranormal romance?

I've always loved fantasy. I like epic, otherworldly, and urban contemporary fantasies. And romance is natural to me. I think the desire to fall in love is a basic human experience everyone can (or wants to) relate to. Even my stories that aren't classed as "romance" have something of that element in them. I can't imagine a human story that isn't, even in a small way, a love story.

What are your current projects and works in progress?

I'm just finishing up my next release, Blood Faerie. It's an urban fantasy set where I live, in Perth, Scotland. It's about a serial killing faerie and the cop who tries to stop him. He's aided by a mysterious and beautiful outcast faerie, and they discover that they have a surprising connection neither of them anticipated.

What genre inspires your writing?

Although I write fantasy, I read just about any genre. I like crime and thrillers, contemporary romance, sci-fi, suspense/adventure. The only genre I really don't care for is horror, but that's because I'm a big baby when it comes to things that are truly disturbing.

If you'd like to have a sneak peek at Ordinary Angels, you can read the first chapter here:

I know there are many choices out there when it comes to books these days. I am grateful for all of the readers who have taken a look at Ordinary Angels. It's gotten some fantastic reviews, and I find it thrilling to hear readers' thoughts about the book. Feel free to look me up on Twitter and Facebook! I look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you so much for sharing with us today. Ordinary Angels sounds fascinating. I can't wait to read it.

Interview with Megan Grooms

Debut author, Megan Grooms is here today to tell us about her new release, Finding Samantha. Please give her a warm welcome.

**Contest: Megan is giving away one e-book copy of Finding Samantha. All you have to do is leave a comment or ask Megan a question and you'll be entered in the drawing. Please make sure to leave your email address so Megan may contact you if you should win. Good Luck!

Let's start out with you telling the readers a little about yourself:

Well my name is Megan Grooms. I grew up in a small town in Maine and moved to North Carolina about 6 years ago with my husband AJ who's a Marine. We have four dogs an d three cats. I work at an animal hospital during the day and write at night.

What inspired you to write Finding Samantha?

I've always loved horses and thought living on a ranch would be a great, this was my way of making that happen. I enjoy writing my characters and get so caught up in their lives it's like I'm living it with them.

Tell the readers about Samantha. What inspired her to move to Rolling Hills Ranch? What is her first impression of Luke?

Samantha is tall, thin, has long brown hair and brown eyes. She has a dog named Zeus that is always with her and is her best friend. She was a police officer with her husband in New York City. He was killed on the job and two years later she isn't over the death. Needing a change, she decides so go back to what she loves, horses. Rolling Hills was the first ranch to hire her. She is very attracted to Luke right way but is torn, feeling like she shouldn't love anyone after her husband.

Tell the readers about Luke. What does he look like? What kind of man is he? What is his first impression when he meets Samantha?

Luke's had trouble of his own in the romance department. Very worried that a woman will break his heart again, he hasn't gone out with anyone. He wears a cowboy hat and boots. He's tall and muscular, has black hair and blue eyes. Luke is a sweet guy. He wants to take care of those he loves. He works hard for a living and enjoys it. He cares for the horses and loves working with them. He finds Samantha attractive right away and quickly realizes that he's willing to put himself out there again for her.

What are your current projects and works in progress?

Well, I have two short stories that are being edited for publication, first being Hestia's Vacation the other is called Handsome Stranger. The next book for Rolling Hill is being written right now. It's going to follow John. Each man on the ranch is going to have his own book.

What genre inspires your writing?

I read all different genres actually. I never really read romance until Cara North opened me up to a new world of books that I now love. I enjoy urban fantasy the most I think. Jacqueline Frank and Jeaniene Frost are two of my favorites and I have my own urban fantasy that I have been working on writing. I'm focusing on Rolling Hills at the moment, however.

Tell the readers where they can find you:

I am on Facebook under Megan Grooms. Twitter is @groomsbooks my website is http://groomsbooks.wordpress.com/ there you can actually read a sample of Finding Samantha and my two short stories. I'm also on Goodreads as an author and Finding Samantha has a review if anyone needs more feedback before reading the book. If anyone has any questions or comments I can be reached at groomsbooks@yahoo.com I enjoy hearing from everyone so shoot me an email.

Is there anything else you'd like to tell the readers?

I enjoyed writing Finding Samantha and I hope everyone enjoys reading it. There is nothing more inspiring to me than to hear someone talk about my book and my characters and how much they love them. I get to enjoy the Rolling Hills crew all the time with their stories in my head. Hearing other people enjoy them makes me want to write it down so that they can share in the love, laughter, and sometimes a little heartache.

Megan, thank you so much for being here today. I wish you the best with your books.

Interview with Claire Ashgrove

Claire Ashgrove is the author of dark, sexy and timeless romances. She's here today to tell us about her new release, Waiting for Yes. She'll also share with us why the book cover is extra special to her. Let's give her a warm welcome!

** There will be a drawing today! Claire will be giving away a signed copy of her new release, Waiting for Yes! Read on and find out what you need to do. I promise, it's really easy. :)

Hi, Karen – thanks for having me here today!

First of all, tell the readers about yourself.

I'm going to give you the official bio because, while talking about my books is fun, talking about me – not so much!

Claire Ashgrove has been writing since her early teens and maintained the hobby for twenty years before deciding to leap into the professional world. Her first contemporary novel, Seduction's Stakes, sold to The Wild Rose Press in 2008, where she continues to write steamy, sexy stories for the Champagne line. Adding to these critically acclaimed contemporaries, Claire's paranormal romance series about the Immortal Knights Templar will debut in January 2012 through Tor. For those who prefer the more erotic side of romance, she also writes under the pen name Tori St. Claire for Berkley Heat.

Claire lives on a small farm in Missouri with her two toddler sons, fifteen horses, four cats, and five dogs. In her "free" time, she enjoys cooking, winning at Rummy, studying Ancient Civilizations, and spending quiet moments with her family, including the critters.

Without giving too much away, tell us about your upcoming release, Waiting for Yes. What inspired the story?

Waiting For Yes, is one of those life-experience twists. I've raised Arabians, Thoroughbreds and Oldenburgs for several years, and my Straight Egyptian Arabian stallion was such a wonderful inspiration I wanted to plot something that related to him. I'd also done horse racing, and to a degree general breeding, in novels, and wanted something a little different. So I pulled on my background in showing Arabians, combined a few dreams, and… voila! And I even managed to land my stallion's face on the cover, which really made the story special after he passed away.

Tell us about Gabrielle Warrenton. What is her dream and what made her decide to pursue it? When she first meets Jake Lindsey-Sullivan what does she think of him?

Gabrielle grew up in Arabians. Only, her father focused on Polish Arabians, and Gabrielle was enchanted with the Straight Egyptians. Tired of being under her father's thumb and controlled, she struck out on her own to see her dream of establishing a premiere Straight Egyptian Arabian breeding program. When she meets Jake, she's stunned by his good looks. His charm helps, and the fact he got her out of a sticky situation with an impromptu kiss doesn't hurt at all!

Tell the readers about Jake. What does he look like? (It's okay to make us drool. Lol) What is his first impression of Gabrielle?

Jake is tall, dark and handsome – hm. That's not terribly interesting is it? He's got black hair, a powerful but not over-done body, and the brightest blue eyes Gabrielle's ever seen. He oozes confident strength.

Jake is rather spellbound by Gabrielle… until he discovers she comes from horses. Then, despite his body's intentions, he's convinced she's a spoiled little rich girl who's made foolish decisions that are going to get her killed. He learns… eventually. And when he does, he finds his world turned upside down and his worst nightmare coming true.

I love your website—Beautiful! I noticed you have Meet the Horses Who Inspired the Story. Tell the readers a little about this post.

Thank you very much! Hot Damn Designs did my website and I'm uber pleased with it.

Meet The Horses was something I put together to showcase the Arabian breed and those individuals I've had the pleasure of sharing back-breaking work, tears, and dreams with. Yes, I wanted to highlight my stallion, WDA Orion, but as I began to think how I could do this, I thought it would be a great opportunity to bring in other horses and show off the overall breed. There are several horses there who inspired those in the book, and several who flat-out inspire me.

This also started with the idea of using "real" horses in my book trailer. I can find all kinds of Arabian stock images, but it's impossible to know, at a glance, who is Straight Egyptian, who's not, who might be part. I put the call out to my fellow breeders asking if they'd like to put their horse in a trailer, and from there we went to the webpage. (The trailer's available on my website too!)

What are your current projects and works in progress?

Current Projects… Well, I'm working on a multitude of things right now. I am anticipating the thumbs up to two Contemporary Novellas, and hopefully moving into edits there. One is a fun story about misunderstandings. The other is an emotional journey about a broken soldier's Christmas homecoming.

I am also in edits for my Paranormal series about Immortal Knights Templar, which comes out through Tor in January, 2012. And my alter-ego is working on revisions for a new endeavor, an erotic romantic suspense, coming through Berkley in 2012.

As I have time, I'm working on some very short paranormal stories for The Wild Rose Press.

Anyone interested in knowing more should sign up through my website for my Newsletter! You'll hear it first there.

What genre inspires your writing?

Nonfiction. I have little time to sit down and read cover to cover. I have a few select romance authors I follow, but even those, while I sing their praises, I find it difficult to read all the way through. So I tend to speed read so I can stay current on the series I started. If I am wanting to read, I have to be able to justify my time, so to speak, and that leads me back to nonfiction. History, Legend, and to a degree Social Sciences.

Do you have a favorite reference book or favorite website?

My favorite reference material is the History Channel International. I've lucked into many snippets there, which has led me into deeper research on topics. With shelves full of what's, for the vast majority, reference material, it's difficult to pick just one.

Tell the readers where they can find you:

My website is www.claireashgrove.com – there you can sign up for my newsletter and access my blog.

I also blog at Cascade Literary Agency and Romance Books R Us.

Is there anything else you'd like to tell the readers?

I love hearing from you. If you've read something you enjoy, or something's struck your fancy, drop me a line!

To be entered in the drawing to win a print copy of Waiting for Yes, answer this question: Readers, what do you look for in a hero?

Don't forget to leave your email address so Claire may contact you if you should win. Good Luck!!

Again, Claire thank you so much for being here today!
