Everything’s Fine

You know in the movies how a character will say, “I can fix this,” and then in the next scene he has whatever it was completely disassembled with the pieces lying all around him? That’s where I am. I’ve broken the book down into acts and then scene sequences, and started hacking scenes out and labeling them so I can find them later, and my computer desktop looks like a junkyard. Some of this stuff I can cut and I’m happy about–the Grandma Keres scene, some of the bar scenes, a lot of the first working day stuff–and some of it I’ve cut and it nags at me. The Hotels in the first scene is one of those. I know damn near everybody said they could go, but I think I lost something there.

Anyway, what that means is that I’m doing a truly terrible job of blogging and I apologize. Thank god you people don’t need me to keep this place going.

And now back to the Ten Thousand Pieces of Nita Dodd.

This week is Return Borrowed Books Week. Also National Procrastination Week. So maybe return your overdue book next week?

Let me think about it and get back to you later.

So what did you find to read this week?

(Admin note: Apologies for everybody who waited days for their pending comments; it’s been that kind of week.)

Working Wednesday, March 6, 2019

It’s National Procrastination Week, but I still worked to get this post up. Hey, I finally got around to it.

What did you put off working on this week?

Or, you know, what did you actually do?

Joy to the World . . .

I love that song. I am, of course, talking about the Three Dog Night song, not the Christmas carol. There are a lot of songs like that, the kind you grab a salt shaker so you have a mic and just belt it out while you dance your ass off. And every now and then one pops out of nowhere. I was watching the first episode of The Umbrella Academy, a fairly dour Netflix show about five damaged foster sibs coming home as adults to their father’s funeral, and out of nowhere came Tiffany’s cover of Tommy James and the Shondells’ “I Think We’re Alone Now.” Instant happiness and dancing in my bedroom although they really should have gone with the Shondells.

It’s right up there with there’s this.

So how did you sing with happiness this week? (And if it was a real song and not just general joy, put it in the comments and we’ll get a happy playlist.)

March is Women’s History Month. The worst part about women’s history is how damn depressing it is. The best part about women’s history is how damn inspiring it is. Here’s to all the women who fought the good fight, and all the women who are fighting now and will be fighting tomorrow and forever. We’ll bring down the patriarchy yet.

Dogs and Goddesses, Going Cheap in March

And thank you, St. Martin’s Press.

In other news, this damn virus FINALLY seems to be giving up which means I should be back to full strength by Monday (knock on wood, lots of wood, a veritable forest because vertigo, it is no joke).

This is a Good Book Thursday, February 28, 2019

It’s the last day of February, hooray (come on, Spring). I’ve been re-reading Dick Francis because I didn’t want any new stories getting in my head while I’m cutting Nita, and he’s all British racing which is nothing like Nita.

What did you read this week?
