Today is Popcorn Day.
Popcorn in general leaves me cold unless it’s piping hot, but there are some popcorn enhanced snacks that I do like, like Moose Munch which has caramel, nuts, and chocolate, so the popcorn part is really just the delivery system. But my favorite popcorn, which of course is no longer available, is . . .
the legendary Screaming Yellow Zonkers.

It may just be nostalgia talking (it isn’t), but that was good popcorn. Damn.

Nita is in New York
I spent yesterday doing a final polish on Nita’s book including a lunch non-break at my diner where I ate comfort food and edited at the same time. I’m a multi-tasker, I can do that.

Today, Nita went to NYC via the internet, and I am back to digging through my old WiPs to see if I can find the chunk of You Again I lost. I’m bitter about that, I remember the stuff I wrote and it really opened up the book. Damn it. Still, the key fact here is . . .
I FINISHED A BOOK.
Yeah, it’ll need more rewrites, but by damn, it’s a whole book.
In other news, the Eastern US, especially New England, is about to get pounded by the split in the polar vortex, so I may be without power. If the blog suddenly goes silent, it’s not because I died (probably). Currently socking myself in with power packs, firewood, bottled water, and three dogs, and praying the power does not go out because my pipes will freeze.
I shoulda moved to Florida, not New Jersey.

This Is a Good Book Thursday, January 17, 2019

I’m reading old drafts of You Again, searching desperately for big chunks of the book that I’ve lost. Damn it. This afternoon I do one more pass at Nita and send it to NYC. And then I think I’m going back to the Zo stories. I have a lot of those done. I’m suddenly getting into finishing things, which is a good thing, if I could just find all of the stuff I need to finish. ARGH.
So what did you read this week that was good? Or not?

Working Wednesday, January 16, 2019
So I’m looking through my works-in-progress files trying to decide what to finish next, and I pull up a really old one, fifteen years ago, called You Again. And the thing that’s surprising is that it’s good. There are about fifteen different versions of each scene, but the writing is good. And my first thought is, “I can’t write like this any more.” I’ve lost the sounds of those people’s voices. Also, the plot? Not great. So I’ll keep working my way through the files to see what’s in there, but I’m not sure about that one. Although I have newer scenes, maybe only eight years old that have Alice as a teenager in there. Huge potential.

That’s my work this week, finishing a book and resuscitating the dead (manuscripts). What are you working on?

Argh Author: Jeanne Estridge’s The Demon’s in the Details

The second book in Jeanne Estridge‘s Demon Series, The Demon’s in the Details, is available on Amazon now. Jeanne won the Golden Heart for the first book in the series, The Demon Always Wins, and the new sequel is now a Finalist in this year’s contest.
It’ll be a cold day in Hell before artist Keeffe Blackmon gives up the statue created by her late mother, a world-famous inspirational sculptor. Keeffe’s not selling—not even to a man as rich as devil’s food cake and handsome as sin—the gorgeous but morally repulsive billionaire Seth McCall. That is, until Keeffe decodes a fiendish contract and discovers she has just one month to prove she’s earning a living with her art or lose her sculpture forever.

Demons will ice skate on the Lake of Fire before Satan puts Abaddon, aka Bad, the demon of sloth and Hell’s brainiest minion, back in charge of Hell’s technology hub. But when Satan’s stooge McCall fails to acquire the powerful statue, Bad seizes his chance. To win back his job, Bad offers to possess McCall and, with the unbeatable combination of McCall’s good looks and his own smarts, melt Keeffe into selling him the sculpture.
As Keeffe races to complete a mural in McCall’s McMansion and earn the cash she needs to keep her statue, the billionaire blows hot one minute and cold the next. It’s almost as if he’s two different men: one a jerk, the other sweet and nerdy—and hot as Hell. Aboveworld for the first time, Bad finds out his heart is even bigger than his brain. He is entranced by Sedona’s stunning landscape and seduced by Keeffe’s passion for art, life and the man she thinks she sees in McCall. Bad may be the smartest demon in Hell—but is he smart enough to win Keeffe’s trust and ice Satan’s devilish plan to destroy Sedona?
The Devil’s in the Details is available now on Amazon.

Progress Report

So I rewrote the last two acts, tightened everything, and now the book is 135,000 words.
I have to cut 35,000 words. That’s 140 pages.
That banging sound you’re hearing is my head hitting the keyboard.

Happiness is You
I’m up to my ass in alligators named Nita, and I completely forgot the happiness post. This makes me unhappy. Tell me the good stuff in your week, please. That’ll cheer me up.

It’s Hot Tea Month.

It’s also Soup Month and Oatmeal Month. So basically, it’s It’s Cold as Hell So Put Something Warm in Your Stomach Month. Except, of course, in half the world where it’s hot now.
I’m assuming in those areas it’s Ice Cream Month. Although tea is good in any climate, so let’s just go with Tea Month.
And cookies.
