Unplanned Novels

I was in the middle of writing “Enamoured by You!” during mid-December, when I received an email from work, reminding all of us that Christmas was around the corner, and it was time for our favourite game of Secret Santa. As I pondered on what gift to buy, an idea began to form in my over-imaginative brain, a short story around the fun of Secret Santa that took shape of the novella – “Secret Santa or was it is Secret Cupid?”

This story was written in mere 3 days and readied and released within 5 days, in time for the Christmas season. The book was an instant hit, so was Pihu’s awkwardness and her crush. People started pinging me, my friends, my readers asking for more. They were happy with the story and wanted more glimpses into the love story of Aditya and Pihu.

That is where I began plotting the next part of Pihu and Aditya’s story in the form of Secret Haven. My characters were laid out, the premise of the story was ready, I wanted an office romance and wanted a happily ever after for both of them, but nothing is so easy in life. That is how the story started taking shape, misunderstandings, impulsive behavior, confusion, and longing were put into the mix and I came up with “Secret Haven – or is it Secret Trouble?”

In fact, all of you readers helped me come up with the final title of the story after I ran a poll on my Insta page, and my mailbox was flooded with suggestions. So, thank you so much!

Now, as I decided to publish all my stories into paperbacks, I combined the two e-books and got the story in one named – “My Haven – A quest that began with Secret Santa”. An apt title I would say for the story that you all have loved and appreciated so far.

Simply Smitten Idea during Goa vacation....

I was on a short vacation to Goa, with my family, something very common yet so unusual in these Covid times. We had booked our stay in Taj Resort Cidade de Goa, just because it was Taj’s property, and had a private beach.

We drove down from Bangalore and when we checked in, the view took my breath away. It was close to sunset time and the beach was painted with a golden hue, water reflecting all the myriad shades of pink and purple. I tried capturing the scene with camera but also had this urge to share it with everyone else. So, an idea began to form, to write about the sunset, paint it in words on paper.

What better way to share for us authors, right?

We checked in and as we hit the beach, we realized there were too many other people, a lot of young crowds. They were all practicing in a secluded area of the resort. I thought maybe a corporate function, but soon we realized the Lakme Fashion Week was going on and all these beautiful young people were upcoming models.

For next two days we were greeted with sights of these models posing at various spots in the resort and at nights having parties.

That was where the beginning of Simply Smitten, began… in my head… a story started forming and just waited to take shape on paper.

Hope you have read the novel, if not, check it out - https://www.amazon.in/dp/B09MLHCJQD

Writing of "Officer Surrenders: in Love!"

This storyline took root in my mind, when I was first writing the book “Officer Down: in Love!” It was planned for the character Akash, who got injured in that book and was recovering. But somehow, I never got around to writing the story and moving further after the initial plot of injured officer back home to recover and meets the female protagonist.

When I was writing the story of Vedansh and Anjali and the scene where Officer Karan gets injured, I was reminded of the plot I had thought of earlier and began thinking of again. During a regular conversation with a friend, while we were generally talking about things, issues in society, the next plot twist took root in my mind, child marriage.

Then began the hashing and rehashing of the plot, adding meat to the story. Adding charms to my characters.

I had always heard the feedback from my readers that my hero is always Mr. Goody Shoes, never one to do anything wrong, so I decided to correct that in this story and add grey shades to the hero, make him sin, make him err and be more human.

No one is perfect in real life, except for in romance novels, after all! So, why not bring in the twist. So, I gave those layers to the character of Karan to bring out the ultimate stunt he pulls off and yet lives to regret it. Creating the character of Tara was easier, a strong girl with a soft heart. There was no way she wouldn’t stand up for herself and face the music.

When reading the book, you go through the scene once and are done with, whether you are surprised, shocked, love it or hate it. It just takes a moment. But as an author, one lives with it over an extended period, one goes through those emotions, those words again and again.

I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it. It is always a long process from thought to release, quite an adventurous one yet nerve wracking. And this book was even more due to some emotionally draining scenes, some exhausting planning that went into those.

Do leave a rating and a comment about how you found the book.

Your feedback is always welcome and helps us write better!
