A reduction in innovation is responsible for the shrinking Pareto Index.

A reduction in innovation is responsible for the shrinking Pareto Index. A number of factors reduce innovation, all increasing its opportunity cost relative to pursuing a traditional career.

In order to foster innovation, we need to forgive student loans and reform education, change professional regulation, address housing shortages, break up the big tech monopolies by enforcing our antitrust law (which we haven’t been doing lately), and have a serious discussion about changing our tax code. I’d suggest flatter

My only concern with not thinking about food at all (just eating what I like) is health.

My only concern with not thinking about food at all (just eating what I like) is health.

My advice would be to get a full lipid panel run at some point—with particle numbers. For me, being “fat” isn’t an issue so much as avoiding atherosclerosis.

I think I’m genetically predisposed to hyperlipidemia (even though I’m technically underweight). A lot of restaurants fill their food with saturated fats. Carne asada burritos are delicious. But if I eat them, my LDL-P goes way, way up—into deep-red territory. To make matters worse, my LDL-C is in normal range, a phenomenon known as “discordance.” If I hadn’t had the full particle screen (rare for a 31-year-old), I’d never know I was at risk for this.

I still eat stuff I like. It’s just different. I replace butter with avocado/sunflower oil, avoid dairy, eat more fish, etc. I feel better, and my overall health is improving dramatically.

This doesn’t even make sense.

This doesn’t even make sense. If you wanted a more progressive candidate, that’s unfortunate. You don’t have one. This is how the system works.

We have to be very careful & gentle with these ideas, so as to avoid the fate of the Soviet Union or Venezuela.

The counterargument is that our Pareto Index is quite low right now. There is a lot of wealth stratification, which strangles innovation and creates a collective sense of helplessness.

A net worth tax might work of it’s very graduated (starting at 10-12 figures) and progressive, and if we lower marginal/overall taxes on the middle class (up to $500k or & 1m per year) simultaneously.

Another option is to break the big tech monopolies, fix primary, secondary, and postsecondary education — and let the market correct. We need markets with greater room for innovation. That’s the key.
