Is This Photographic Proof Of Ghosts?

While on vacation last week, the Hubby and I spent an
evening at Magnolia Cemetery. Yes, I know that’s not the most romantic date
night but I like cemeteries. The older the better. As much as I like to walk around
the monuments and read the names of those chiseled in stone, I like to photo
them even more.
I did that very thing at Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston SC
in October 2012 and two of the photographs revealed some very
interesting…forms.
My Hubby is an avid ‘ghost hunter’. Me? Not so much. Things
that go bump in the night scare me. If it had been dark in the cemeteries we’d
visited, I would have been hanging onto the Hubby’s arm like a scared little
girl. He lives for this kind of stuff. Of course, I’d like to see how he’d
react if one day a ghost did make it’s presence known to him. We’d see who the
scardy-cat was then!
I took nearly 200 photos at Magnolia Cemetery. There’s just
something about the grounds there that seem a bit mystical to me. I’m not sure
if it’s the Live Oaks draped in Spanish moss that gives it that feel or if it’s just the place itself. Whatever it is,
this cemetery should be on everything ‘To Do’ list if you ever find yourself in
Charleston.
Unlike most modern day cemeteries, Magnolia is home to some
very old resting places. Family crypts in various shapes and forms.
Unusual headstones and statues are crammed into every
available space
And the average, modern looking stones.
For all the errie beauty nothing compares to seeing
something in a photograph that just wasn’t there when you snapped the picutre.
I found two such things when I reviewed the photographs once I got home.
The next set of photos look identical, but they’re not. The
second photograph has been zoomed in just a bit, not to mention, what I caught
is completely different than the first images.
Here’s the original of the first photograph. (You’re welcome
to copy this and enlarge it yourself to see what has me baffled but please do
not remove my copyright or distribute the photograph without my consent.)
And here’s the enlarged (zoomed in) area of what I found so
interesting. (This can be found just above the copyright on the original photograph)
I’ll not tell you what I see as that seems to distort your
perception a bit. I’ll just let you tell me what you see and I’ll chime in
later. Once you’ve had your fill of photo one, take a look at number two.
Remember, the original photos look the same but one is a zoomed in look at the area.
And now for a close up look at what I found so interesting. (This can be found just above the copyright on the original photograph)
The second photograph (to me) is more clear. Everyone who
has seen it sees exactly the same thing I do. Again, I won’t say what it is I
see. I’ll let you tell me first. Also, as above, you’re welcome to copy the
photograph and enlarge it yourself to see more clearly but please do not remove
my copyright or distribute the photograph without my consent.
So did I catch photographic proof of ghosts? Ehh…who can say. I’m sure the skeptics could explain it all away as light and shadows but for those who actively search for these sort of things, the imagination will fill in any missing blanks so you’re sure to see something.
For me? I’m not sure if I believe in ‘ghosts’ but I do think there are things in this world that can’t be explained and what I see on these photographs is one of those very things. I can’t explain them. The shapes don’t look solid enough for me to think they’re real people. Besides the fact no one else was in this side of the cemetery when we were also factors in. Not to mention, there was a funeral taking place on the other side of the pond. Are the figures in these photos long-lost family members waiting for their loved one?
Regardless of what is actually there, my trip to Magnolia Cemetery won’t be forgotten. The eerie beauty found there isn’t something one forgets. When you factor in possible specters? It’s a memory to last a lifetime!

Magnolia Cemetery was founded in 1849 on the banks of the Cooper River and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s the final resting place of many southern governs as well as hundreds of confederate soldiers and five civil war generals.
The Cemetery is located at ….70 Cunnington AVE, Charleston, SC 29405

Writer Wednesday

My post-book depression is slowly fading (thank goodness!) and I'm finally getting back to work. Of course, the weeks I wasn't able to work left a lot of things piling up on my desk. It also pushed my timeline past the end of the year mark.

I'm still proofing print books. The Wicked Anthology will be out in the next month or so in print and ebook formats. I also have The Gathering in print coming soon. That one is almost finished. Then there's the Willow Creek books. Those will also be going into print, two stories per book. I really wish I could get those finished by Christmas but I just don't see it happening unless I push. Hard. And maybe work through a few weekends. The Hubby doesn't like it when I ignore him too long so we'll see how that works out.
I also have a secret project I'm working on for Christmas. I hope to get that organized and ready to announce soon but in the meantime, I'll just leave this teaser out there to drive you crazy wondering. I honestly hate when authors do this because more often than not, the surprise isn't that much of a big deal anyway but I don't want to say much at this point. Not until I fine tune the details.
Other than a article I'm writing for someone else, there's not much left to report. I'm hoping to get back to His Brother's Wife soon but I don't see that happening before first of December at the earliest. I don't think we'll make the release by end of year like I said and for that I'm a bit disappointed but sometimes, things just can't be avoided. I guess I counted my chickens before they hatched, to coin an old cliche, and now I'm left trying to scramble and gather everything up all nice and tidy. I should know better. Nothing every works like it should around here!
Until next time,

Tuesday Teaser :: The Gathering - Paranormal Romance

Excerpt
Rayna was led up the stairs behind Carmen to the front of
the stage. There, she gazed out at the sea of faces staring back at her. Shouts
and disembodied voices yelled her name, the applause rang out over the park and
for once, she wished she’d chosen a career path that didn’t allow her to be so
visible to the public.
When Victor took center stage, Rayna watched him smile, his
gnarled fingers wrapped around his cane as he stood and waited for the last of
the applause to die. When the people staring up at them were silent, Victor
gave her a brief look and the malice in his eyes caused a shiver to race up her
spine.
“I’m sure I don’t have to introduce this lovely young lady to you but
for those who don’t know, this is Rayna Ford.” He turned his body toward her
and the shouts once again rang out over the park. “We've come today to share
with you something that will change the world. Rayna has graciously offered to
be the one to enlighten you all.”
He turned to face her and held out his hand. “Ms. Ford, if
you would be so kind.”
Rayna glared at him before turning her attention to the
crowd. She watched their eager faces as they stared up at her. So many of them
looked familiar. Old acquaintances and friends lined the front of the stage,
all of them waiting for her to enlighten them, as Victor had said, and
the only thing she could think to say was, “run!”
When Victor gave her a disgruntled look and shook his hand
at her impatiently, she heaved a sigh and crossed the stage to where he stood.
She scanned the crowd, wondering what would
happen to those friends she saw once the wolf was loose. She knew enough from what
Judith told her to know that once she turned, the wolf would act instinctively. It
would hunt and with this many people, it was a sure bet someone would get hurt.
All those people staring up at her would be nothing but food once she shifted.
The wolf would see them as nothing else.

Sequel to, The Calling
THE CALLING changed Rayna Ford’s life forever, now in THE GATHERING, she will find out what she's truly become.
Rayna Ford didn't believe in monsters, until she became one herself.
As a newly turned werewolf awaiting her first shift, Rayna puts all her trust in Garrett Kincaid, the man who accidentally infected her and changed her life forever. But when old enemies resurface and take her from the one man who vowed to protect her, Rayna must face her fears alone.
The Collective, the Breed leaders of all the preternatural species, haven’t abandoned the dream of announcing their presence to the world and they still want Rayna to be the one who integrate them into human society. Her only chance at survival is to reveal the secret the breed leaders want her to show the world, but in doing so, she may alienate the very creatures she wants to protect and endanger her own life in the process.

Six Sentence Sunday :: Wicked: Sweet Temptation - Contemporary Romance
“Put me down and stop calling me Tinker Bell. I
told you it was degrading.”
“No its not. It suits you perfectly. You’re small
enough to fit into my pocket but at the moment, I’d rather you be down the
front of my pants.”
She glanced down and raised one eyebrow at him.
“You aren’t wearing any pants.”
“Then you’ll have no problem filling that pretty
mouth of yours with my dick.”
Okay....I cheated. That's seven sentences but it couldn't be helped!

Six Sentence Sunday :: Wicked: Jade Butterfly - Contemporary Romance
Her leg slowly slid from his hip and he gathered what little energy he had left to lift his head and look at her. Her face was flushed, her eyelids heavy and drowsy looking. He smiled when she looked up at him. "You know, I just came to ask you to lunch."
She laughed and the sound vibrated through his chest until his heart constricted. "After that I need food," she said.

Six Sentence Sunday :: Wicked: Leather and Lace - Contemporary Romance
Roxy has just been caught snooping in Luke's apartment and what she found is a bit of a shock.
“You have a stripper pole in your bedroom.”
“Care to give it a try?” he said, shrugging off his coat and tossing it to the sofa.
“I’m sure there are others more qualified at dancing around poles than I am.”
Luke raised one eyebrow at her, that devilish smirk making an appearance. “I’d much rather have you dance around my pole.”
The look on his face told her he wasn't talking about that stripper pole.

Writing and Depression

I've not talked much publicly about my post-book depression but I feel I may need to now. THE RANCHER released a month ago today and I'm still feeling a bit blue. So much so, I may need to shift release dates.
For as long as I can remember, I've always gotten a little depressed after releasing a book. I'm not sure why that is. It could be as simple as "empty nest syndrome" or something similar. I know authors who can write full novels in two weeks time. I'm not one of those authors and it takes me months to write a book and when I'm writing, I'm immersed into that world to the point it's really all I think about. Even when I'm not writing, ideas and scenes are flitting through my mind and once a book is done--once its sent out into the world--I feel a bit lost.
It could also be the fact I spend months at a time alone in my office, isolated from most everyone for 8 or more hours a day. The lack of exercise, a poor diet and decreased exposure to sunlight may have its place in the large scheme of things as well. Whatever the reason, I can't seem to shake this funk I've been in.
The book is selling well. The entire Willow Creek Series has exceeded my wildest dreams and I've met so many new readers who have found me because of these books. I honestly couldn't ask for more. As well as everything has been going, it still isn't enough to drag me out of my current mood. Nothing I've done seems to work.
I took a few days and spent them outside with my husband, hoping the fresh air and sunshine would work but…nothing.
I've vegged out in front of the TV, watching more television in the last two weeks than I've seen in the past year and….nothing.
I bought new sewing material to make a new 'southern belle' dress, cut out the pattern and sewed half of it, then….nothing.
I spent days on Facebook chatting with readers only to slink away again. I've all but avoided Twitter like the plague.
It's a viscous cycle. Up one minute, down the rest of the day. I can break it. I have many times before but for some reason, this time, it's harder.
I'll be participating in a living history event this weekend, camping in a tent, cooking over an open fire and talking with strangers. I'll be heading to Charleston SC the following weekend so I'm hoping two weekends away with no worries will be enough. If not, I'll be in trouble. I have His Brother's Wife half-way finished, the Wicked Anthology to finish formatting and get released and a brand new Willow Creek Novel just chomping at the bit to be written, not to mention, a whole cast of super-natural creatures whispering and trying to lure me back to the dark side. I've too much to do to be so out of it.
Hopefully it'll pass soon. Keep your fingers crossed. I've run out of lucky charms so throw good vibes my way!

Six Sentence Sunday :: Wicked: Tempt Me Not - Contemporary Romance
This week our six is from Wicked: Tempt Me Not (book #1)
“Why does my life suck so bad?”
“Because you're an asshole and have no manners?”
Devin opened one eye, turning his head to look at her. “You're not nearly as cute as
you think you are.”
“I don't think I'm cute at all,” Holly grinned. “Just honest.”

Writer Wednesday: What I'm Working On

It's been a while since I've done a 'Writer Wednesday' update and with everything I have on my To Do list, my timeline is getting a bit shifted.
I now only have two projects planned for the rest of the year. Way back at the first of the year, I had visions of another 5 books (paranormals) being added to my list of releases this year but apparently my head was in the clouds. I can't get them done even if I wrote every day, all day long, from now til December. It just won't happen.
What I do have is The Wicked Anthology (all 4 Wicked books in one) coming soon in eBook format and print. I also have His Brother's Wife, a stand alone novel that takes place in our fictional town of Willow Creek. We'll get to catch up with the character's we've already met and see how life's been treating them as well.
For you fans of the Willow Creek series, I have plans on at least three more stories based in that little frontier town. There's a new Doctor coming, new characters who we haven't met yet and some where down the road, Alexandra Avery is going to grow into a woman, wearing her trousers, spitting, cussing, and still getting into trouble.
If all those books yet to be written isn't enough, there's also the print books I want to get ready to go and with the convention next year, well, I sort of 'have' to have them! I'll be spending the next several months (and part of 2013) getting all those formatted and then the painstaking task of re-reading all the books to make sure they're as close to perfect as I can get them.
I don't have a definite release date for the Wicked Anthology or His Brother's Wife. After not being able to deliver That Rancher by it's due date, I'm a bit hesitant to issue another for fear of not being able to meet it. When those books are near ready to be released, I'll issue the dates so there's no disappointments.
In the meantime, I'll be working on getting the Wicked Anthology ready for release and then get back to writing His Brother's Wife. I hope to have both books released by Christmas.
Until next time,

Indie Romance Convention - I'll be there!

Back in July I received an email from a lady who was putting together an Indie Romance Convention who asked if I'd like to take part. I've never attended a romance author convention but I'd been to my fair share of sci-fi conventions (DragonCon still being the largest I've attended.)
I was tickled to be asked and my first instinct was to say yes! Then the fear of failure set in. All those scary 'what if' scenarios start playing inside my head, the biggest one being, "What if" no one bothered to approach my signing table? My cellphone doesn't have games. What will I do for a whole weekend?
I finally pushed that doubt and fear aside and told my Hubby I was going to do it anyway. If nothing else, I would get the opportunity to meet a great list of authors and bloggers so it was win-win anyway I looked at it. I emailed Laurie back and said to sign me up!
The list of authors attending is small but that doesn't mean they aren't great authors. Many of them are bestsellers and currently hold ranking position on Amazon.Com and other retailers. As this is the first event, everyone is just getting their toes wet, so I know every year will get bigger and better. Below is the list of particpating authors signed up to appear.
Gabrielle Bissett
Claudy Conn
Danielle Blanchard
Lori Brighton
Eve Langlais
Kallypso Masters
Candice Stauffer
Kim Killion
Jennifer Jakes
Caris Roane
Amanda J. Greene
Teresa Gabelman
Hayden Braeburn
Toni Aleo
Annabel Joseph
Leia Shaw
Leigh Savage
Deborah Court
Donna McDonald
Lily Graison
The convention is being held Oct. 4th & 5th, 2013 in Lebanon Tennessee. Registration is now open for those wishing to attend. They're also looking for volunteers to help out in a few areas. For all the details, visit the Indie Romance Convention website.
If you're in or around Tennessee, I would love to meet you next year! Head over to the convention website and have a look and don't forget to tell your friends. This may be something they would be interested in too.
I hope to see you there!
