Friday First Kiss #12 :: The Outlaw by Lily Graison - Historical Western Romance

The moment I crack open a new book, I always rush through the beginning, the budding relationship between the hero and heroine, and anticipate that spontaneous moment when one of them makes their move. The First Kiss. The first turning point in every story.

Every week here on the blog, I'll be sharing First Kisses from my books and those of other authors.

This weeks Friday First Kiss comes from The Outlaw, book 2 in my Willow Creek Series.

Hearing
a noise behind him, he turned his head to find Sarah standing at the edge of
the woods looking at him. Damn if she wasn’t the finest looking woman he’d set
eyes on in ages. He’d seen his fair share of them, too. Had more than he could
count in his bed a time or two but none had compared to this one.

The
others had been too easy. He flashed them a smile and it took less than a
minute to get them to drop their drawers. He didn’t think it would be that easy
with her, though. She was different. More refined than the women he associated
with. A real lady. And more spirited than any other woman he’d ever met. This
one wouldn’t lay down and let a man have his way. No, she’d want things done
her way and wouldn’t be afraid to tell him how to do it. He held back a smile
at the thought. He’d love to find out.

He
groaned inwardly. Thinking like that was what got him in his current state. He
needed to get this girl out of his system and fast. Maybe he should just let
her know what he wanted. For all he knew she wasn’t as chaste as he imagined
her to be. She may actually be as easy as all the others were. Somehow he
doubted it but one never knew until they asked, right?

* * * *

Sarah
started to ask him if anything was wrong but he turned and started walking back
to where she stood. His gaze roamed her body from head to toe before he stopped
in front of her. The look on his face made her nervous. His expression was
lustful and hungry. Her pulse leaped, butterflies danced in her stomach, and
she licked her lips as her mouth became suddenly dry. He groaned when she did,
mumbled a curse under his breath and reached up, cupping her face in his hands,
and kissed her. Her shocked gasp offered him entrance into her mouth and he
wasted no time slipping his tongue in to taste her.

She went
limp at the first flick of his tongue against her own, her body swaying toward
him, and Colt wrapped his arms around her, angled his head and took everything
he wanted. She was slow to reciprocate but when she did, sliding her tongue
against his, his hold on her tightened, his mouth harder and more urgent.

The one
kiss she’d had from William had been all lips, wet and messy, and she’d prayed
the entire time it lasted that it would end sooner rather than later. This
kiss… she never imagined it would be like this.

Colt
tasted faintly of whiskey, his scent tickled her senses and she inhaled it,
memorizing it before tentatively placing her hands at his waist. His hold on
her tightened, that wicked tongue teasing and dipping until tingles raced down
her limbs, causing tiny zaps of pleasure that left her weak and light headed.
Small sounds escaped her throat, her breaths panted out as he fisted her hair
in his hand, angling her head the way he wanted. He sucked her bottom lip into
his mouth, teased it with his teeth before his tongue once again invaded her
mouth with rapid plunges, the whiskers from his growing beard rasping against
the flesh around her mouth until her face felt lit with fire.

She
wrapped her arms around his waist, leaned against him and mimicked him, kissing
him with a growing hunger that left her dazed and pleasantly warm.

He let
her go suddenly, holding her at arms length. They were both breathing heavily
and Sarah was stunned when he turned and walked away, back to where the horse
was, without saying a word. He stood there for long moments before turning his
head to look over his shoulder. “Let’s go, sweetheart. We need to keep going.”

It took
her longer than it should have to catch her breath, even longer to make her
body react. She crossed the distance, staring at his back, and stopped when he
turned to face her. The lustful look was still on his face and something she
couldn’t even put a name on lurked in his eyes. It caused those butterflies to
dance again. His gaze roamed her face, stopping on her kiss swollen lips before
rising to her eyes. Sarah blinked at him and shook her head. “Why did you kiss
me?”

He
gave her a sudden, lazy smile. “So I’d stop thinking about doing it.” He
reached for her, wrapping his hands around her waist and lifted her to the
horse. He put her in the saddle this time and climbed in behind her. She wiggled
her bottom to give him more room and gasped when his arm clamped around her
waist and he pulled her back into his chest, his head lowering until his breath
was warm against her ear. “And if you don’t stop wiggling that ass around on me
I’m going to do everything else I can’t stop thinking about, too.”

The Outlaw - Willow Creek #2

by Lily Graison

Sarah Hartford always dreamed of a grand adventure. She just never expected to find it in the arms of an outlaw.

When her father’s bank is robbed, Sarah doesn't make the gunslingers’ escape easy. Putting her own safety behind those she hopes to protect backfires when she’s kidnapped by one of the escaping men. Now her only hope for survival lies with the same arrogant man who laughed at her while staring down the barrel of her gun.

Colton Avery spent months planning the perfect heist, every detail fine tuned and executed with precise timing. Nothing could go wrong. That is until he comes face to face with a determined woman holding a shotgun. She aimed at his head and never flinched when she took a shot at him. He wanted her the moment the smoke cleared and he saw her face.

Robbing the bank, and handing over the gang of notorious outlaws to US Marshals, would be routine and boring. Sarah Hartford made it anything but. Taming the woman who stole his heart the instant he saw her was a challenge he was more than willing to take on. All he has to do now is escape the gang of outlaws he just double-crossed, hideout from an Indian raiding party and elude the town marshal who just happens to be his little hellion’s new fiancé.

Hot Paranormal Nights Giveaway Hop - July 25th - 30th

Welcome to the Hot Paranormal Nights Blog Hop! This hop is hosted by authors Tricia Schneider and Kallysten and will run from July 25th thru midnight on July 30th.

When I saw this hop centered around Paranormal Romance, I jumped at the chance to join. Writing in three different genres has its ups and downs, spending time away from one particular genre being one of those, but I always come back to those I neglect, especially when there's an Alpha Hero just begging for my attention.

My Night Breed Series has a host of preternatural creatures lurking about but my hero is an Alpha werewolf who will do anything to protect the woman his wolf wants for a mate. Take a look below at book 1 in my paranormal series and get a 10 chapter sneak peek at the book.

The Calling

Lily Graison

In a world where the supernatural isn't supposed to exist, one woman comes face to face with the monsters and fights to survive their call.

Investigative reporter Rayna Ford is sent to the small community of Wolf’s Creek to write an expose on a town supposedly over run with werewolves. Assuming the inhabitants to be under a mass delusion, she learns quickly that all isn't as it seems. Their plans involve more than a newspaper article and her life hangs in the balance as their motive for luring her to them is revealed.

Garrett Kincaid knows a thing or two about werewolves. He is one. After leaving his pack, he’s spent the last twelve years pretending to be something he isn't. His closely guarded secret threatens to destroy him when he meets Rayna Ford, the woman his wolf has claimed as his own. When he learns the pack has lured Rayna to them in order to get to him, he races to Wolf’s Creek to protect her from the very thing he fears the most. Himself.

The power struggle within the pack becomes clear once Garrett reaches his old home and learns of the packs plans for Rayna. The beast lurking beneath his skin is torn between protecting the woman he wants to call mate and keeping the balance within the pack on neutral ground. When choosing a side no longer matters, he does what he must to save his mate, even if that means making one of the most difficult decisions of his life. When the stakes are high, and lives hang in the balance, can you ignore life as you know it to answer...The Calling.

Garrett
raced toward the circle and stepped from behind the trees. Rayna screamed again
and slid to a stop, her eyes wide when she saw him. He caught her in his arms,
spinning her around and placing her against a tree. “Don’t move! You run and
they’ll kill you faster, got it!” He didn’t wait for her reply, instead, he
turned back to face the pack and took a step backwards, placing her completely
behind him. She was wedged between him and the tree. They’d have to move him to
get to her and that wasn’t going to happen.

Lowering
his arm, he grabbed her hand to keep her from running. Her nails bit into his
flesh and he felt her trembling against his back, her harsh sobs and the scent
of her fear forcing his beast to the surface. It was a struggle to keep it
restrained. He felt it beating against his skin, struggling to be free. He let
out a low warning growl, watching as those in pursuit slowed before coming to a
stop.

“Look
who decided to come home.” Caleb walked closer, lifting his head to sniff the
air. “You still smell like a coward to me, Garrett. Let her go and I’ll let you
live.”

Garrett
crouched low ready for an attack. “Not likely, Caleb. You can’t do this.”

“We can
and we will.”

Caleb’s
voice was distorted in wolf form and Garrett wondered if Rayna could understand
what was being said. She moved behind him, his shirt clutched in her fist. He
could smell her tears, taste her fear on the back of his tongue, thick and
sweet. His beast roared at her distress and he followed with a growl that
vibrated in his chest. The bones in his face started to shift and he clenched
his teeth to hold the wolf back. When he spoke, his voice was harsh and rough.
“You can’t have her. She’s mine!”

Caleb
laughed, the sound grating and coarse. He stood, rising to his full height and
stared down at him. “I don’t smell a claim on her, Garrett. Crawl back to that
pathetic life you’ve made for yourself and leave pack business to the real
wolves. You’re not wanted here.” He lowered his voice and said, “You’re only
alive because some of us wish it.”

It was
then Carmen took a step forward. He would recognize her wolf anywhere. He
locked gazes with her, watched as she lowered her head and growled. She snapped
her teeth at him before taking a few steps to the side, her gaze locked on
Rayna at his back.

Garrett
glanced over at Malcolm. He was standing over Mitch, looking down at him. The
man was still on the ground, blood pooling around his neck. The sight made him
sick. Two seconds longer and that would have been Rayna.

Jacob
was standing near them, a look of horror on his face. When he lifted his head
and turned to look at him, Garrett tilted his head, gesturing for him to come
and hoped the boy was still loyal to him. He knew the answer to that as he
watched him edge his way to the tree line and disappear into the forest. He
turned his attention back to Caleb and Carmen. “You’ll have to come through me
to get her, Caleb, and I can promise you, it’ll be the last mistake you ever
make.”

The tone
of his voice left no room for arguments. The soft whimpering of the others drew
his gaze to them. They were watching him while backing away with ears and tails
tucked in, their bodies low to the ground. The submissive behavior pleased his
wolf. They were beta wolves and whether they knew it or not, they’d just
submitted to him, telling him in actions he was stronger. They feared him. Good.
They should be.

He
looked back at Caleb. He wasn’t backing down. His hair was bristled, standing
on end with his ears erect. He met his gaze without fear.

A loud
howl split the night air. It was Malcolm. The others turned and looked at him.
Their leader was still standing in the middle of the circle. His plan was
falling apart in front of him and he knew it. It showed on his face.

When the
others turned back to him, some started advancing, still trying to keep their
distance, and circled around to the side.

Garrett
lifted his head, looking at Malcolm. “I’ll destroy them all, old man. Call them
off!” Malcolm didn’t answer. He just stood there staring at him but Garrett
could see the uncertainty of the situation cross his face.

Sensing
movement to his left, he glanced to the forest and saw Jacob. He stepped into
the light and stopped beside him. “You know them better than I do, Jacob. Will
they attack on Malcolm’s order?”

“Caleb
will regardless,” he said, quietly. “He’s always spoiling for a fight but the
others I’m not so sure about. They fear you but they don’t want to displease
Malcolm either. Depends on who they fear more. You or Malcolm.”

Garrett
locked gazes with Caleb. He could see excitement flare in his eyes. Jacob was
right. He was spoiling for a fight. “Can you outrun the others?”

“If I
have to.”

“You
do,” he said, pulling Rayna from behind him and placing her hand in Jacob’s.
“Take her to the hill where I found you. I’ll come when I can.”

“What
are you going to do?”
Garrett
straightened to his full height and inhaled deeply. He smiled and called his
beast. “I’m going to show these puppies what a pissed off Alpha male looks
like.”

Good Morning!! Since I just spent the past week lounging on a beach, I thought I'd bring a little bit of the beach to the blog this week, and nothing says 'fun in the sun' more than half naked men rolling in the sand. Right?

If I would have found this buried in the sand, I would have never came home! (...Just saying)

Friday First Kiss #11 :: Something Worth Fighting For by Alexandra Marell - Contemporary Romance

This weeks First Kiss comes from Something Worth Fighting For by Alexandra Marell.

No longer shy, or hesitant, he didn't stop to question it any further. While she was still hovering, he'd made his decision. While she was still sliding her arms around his back and adjusting herself against him, his lips were already on hers. His hands were on her face, holding her in place so she could listen to his message.

A kiss can speak volumes and as his hot mouth touched hers it talked to her in that eloquent, yet simple language lovers have used since time began.

At some point they stopped being Callie and Daniel, and became instead, every couple who have sat under a moonlit sky and held each other. Who have made promises and decided to take a chance.

She tried to memorize the details. A blur of sensation centered on the insistent slide of his lips against hers. The flare of desire, low down, that left her tingling and clinging to him, silently begging for more. And the feeling that Daniel never been surer of anything in his life.

The one message that came through to her, loud and clear before he broke breathlessly away, overriding all the emotion of the moment, was that he meant it with all his heart.

Something Worth Fighting For

by Alexandra Marell

I spent two and a half years telling myself I'd never look at a woman again. That it wasn't worth it. That I'd never believe again. And then I met Callie...

When an innocent man is released from prison he needs to rebuild his life. For Daniel Denham, that's easier said than done. Until he meets artist Callie Lester in her house by the sea.

Callie Lester is horrified when her mother, who was Daniel's lawyer, announces she's invited him to stay. He's recently been released from prison for a crime he didn't commit and is looking for work. Callie needs a website to advertise her growing business as a portrait artist and Daniel had a promising career before he was falsely accused. But he's a man with problems. Does she really want him around when things are so good? The moment Daniel walks into the house by the sea he knows it's a place where he can begin to get his life back together. A place where he can heal. But things are never that simple. Rumors to some people are truth and facing the outside world and all its judgements is the hardest thing of all. Daniel comes out of prison a changed man, unsure of who he is and haunted by the things he had to do to survive. But as he and Callie grow closer, Daniel is surprised to discover he's not the only one with ghosts from the past that need laying to rest...

Cover Reveal :: A Willow Creek Christmas by Lily Graison - Historical Western Romance

Finally, after two years, I have another Christmas story coming! This is a full-length novel and is part of my Willow Creek Series. It is a stand alone story but we'll get a chance to see some of our favorite characters from the past five books. So, without further ado, here's the shiny, brand new cover! I LOVE it. It may turn out  to be one of my favorites.

A Willow Creek Christmas

Widowed with two young children, Keri Hilam is desperate to escape her abusive brother in law, going so far as sneaking away in the dead of night in hopes of finding a better life. She never regrets leaving, not even when they find themselves stranded, starving, and alone. Fate brings them to Willow Creek, Montana, where they’re rescued by an unlikely hero, an ex-confederate soldier who seems more monster than man.

The war leaves Noah Lloyd scarred and bitter. When the girl he left behind broke his heart, he turned his back on the life he used to know, and sought refuge in a dusty little town that afforded him the solitude he wanted. Finding a woman and her kids hunkered down in an abandoned line shack in the middle of a blizzard is the last thing he needs. They’re ragged, half starved and vulnerable, and he’s determined to leave the trio in the care of the town marshal.

But the innocence of a child at Christmas breaks through Noah’s hard exterior and Keri’s tender care allows him to see that life may be worth living. All he has to do is let go of his past and let this unlikely family love him.

Friday First Kiss #10 :: Bodyguards by Kallysten - Paranormal Romance

The moment I crack open a new book, I always rush through the beginning, the budding relationship between the hero and heroine, and anticipate that spontaneous moment when one of them makes their move. The First Kiss. The first turning point in every story.

Every week here on the blog, I'll be sharing First Kisses from my books and those of other authors.

This weeks First Kiss comes from Bodyguards by Kallysten.

Vivien couldn't have stopped herself from smiling even if she
had wanted to. She had been so sure Brad felt something for her that his
rejection had hurt more than she had thought possible. To hear him say so
now—for him to admit it wasn't all just his job—was the first bright spot since
this had all started.

Holding on to his hand, she leaned closer to him, her eyes
locked with his as she tilted her face up for a kiss. He pulled back ever so
slowly and shook his head.

“I can’t,” he breathed. “Whatever I feel, I’m still your
guard, and you’re still my dame. It wouldn't be proper.”

The same sting she had felt at the coffee shop drew tears to
her eyes. She chased them away with a few blinks. She wasn't going to cry, not
here, not now, and certainly not in front of Brad.

“Says who?” she asked, trying to keep her voice as level as
she could. “Who decides what’s proper or not? Ana—” She felt a pang of guilt as
Anabel’s image resurfaced. Vivien couldn't do anything about her now, though,
and if she thought about her, the tears would rise again. “She always told me
you weren't right for me. I never accepted that. What makes you think I’m going
to accept it now that you've said you like me?”

Except...he hadn't said he liked her, had he? He’d just said
he used to have a crush on her and that she was beautiful. That didn't mean
anything; she could have called his brother handsome, but that didn't mean she
liked him, or could even stand him, the same way Brad calling her beautiful didn't mean he liked her...not unless he said so out right.

“You do like me, right?” she asked in a tiny voice, suddenly
afraid she was reading too much into his words again.

Long seconds trickled by, their passage marked by the beating
of Vivien’s heart, faster and faster. Had she made a fool out of herself again?

Why wasn’t Brad saying anything? Why was he looking at her
with that small frown?

The frown finally smoothed out, and Brad’s whole face seemed
to relax.

“Like is not a good word,” he finally said. “I love you. I’ve
loved you for as long as I can remember. But even if I do—”

She refused to listen to him say that his feelings didn’t
matter again, that it wasn’t proper for them to be together. She shut him up
the only way she knew how: by pressing her mouth to his.

In the moment before she closed her eyes, she could see how
wide his were, how surprised. He remained completely still against her, but his
fingers did tighten over hers when she flicked her tongue against the seam of
his lips. When she did it a second time, his mouth parted, inviting her inside.
She pressed in harder against him, caressing his tongue lightly, hoping that
he’d join in.

After a few more seconds, just when she was ready to give up
and pull away, he finally did. He tilted his face and deepened the kiss,
stroking her tongue delicately, almost shyly. Vivien’s heart fluttered, and a
small sound rose from her throat, half moan, half sigh.

Everything came to a standstill as they continued to kiss,
the birds falling quiet, the wind abating until she was conscious of nothing
but their bodies, their clasped hands, their joined mouths, and how warm and
good she felt. After a moment longer, when they pulled away at the same time,
the world seemed to lurch back into movement.

Vivien opened her eyes; Brad’s were right there, and she felt
as though he were looking right to the deepest corners of her soul. She smiled
and ducked her head, caught between embarrassed and happy.

“See?” she teased. “Nothing bad happened. We didn’t break
some cosmic rule or anything. We weren’t struck by lightning or swallowed by
the lake.”

Her only warning was a wicked twist to Brad’s grin before he
kicked the water hard with both feet. Water splashed high, sprinkling over both
of them. Vivien yelped in surprise at how cool it was, especially when every
inch of her body felt like it was burning. She kicked back, spraying water
toward him, and for a few moments they splashed water at each other like kids.
Vivien was laughing so hard she could hardly breathe.

“Truce!” she wheezed out in between two fits of laughter. “I
call a truce!”

Brad stopped at once, still grinning. “I can summon
lightning, too, if you really insist.”

She stuck her tongue out at him and stood, tugging at her
skirt where it adhered to her legs.

“I’m soaked,” she complained, turning a pout to him. “I
thought you were supposed to keep me safe, not give me pneumonia.”

“In this weather?” He chuckled. “Fine. I’ll fix it. Don’t
move.”

He got to his feet, too, and stood in front of her. A slight
grimace marred his smile when he raised both his hands between them, and he
glanced at his arm for a second. But before she could ask if he was all right,
his gaze was back on her.

“Don’t move,” he said again, more quietly now.

Wondering what he was going to do, Vivien remained very
still, even holding her breath when she felt the first brush of warm air on her
skin. Her eyes flitted between her clothes and his face, where a look of
concentration tugged his eyebrows into a small frown. Her skirt was dancing
around her legs as though caught in a whirlwind, while the bottom of her blouse
kept riding up, exposing her stomach above the skirt’s waistband.

He was directing a light flow of warm air at her, drying her
clothes. Each puff of air was so gentle, it was like a caress, and goose bumps
erupted over Vivien’s legs and arms. Like before when Brad had done magic, she
noticed the colors swirling around him.

“There,” Brad said in an absent tone as he lowered his hands
and the flow stopped. “No pneumonia for you.”

Would it be too much to kiss him again so soon after their
first kiss? Vivien leaned forward and brushed her lips across his cheek as she
murmured, “Thank you.”

Bodyguards

by Kallysten

On the verge of her twentieth birthday,
Vivien’s worries are those of a typical young woman: doing well in college,
gaining more independence, and maybe managing to show Brad, her classmate and
sometimes jogging partner, that she wouldn’t mind taking their burgeoning
relationship to a different level.

Everything changes in the blink of an
eye. Vivien stumbles into a knife fight, watches a man die in front of her, and
soon listens, stunned, as Brad and his brother Aedan tell her a story of magic,
vampires and a murderous ruler intent on killing a princess in hiding – a tale
in which she is the princess and heir to a realm she didn’t know existed.

Vivien’s
first instinct is to refuse to believe this incredible tale, even if it comes
from a man she is attracted to. But when her self-proclaimed bodyguards use
magic to take her to a different world, the edges of reality start blurring and
Vivien has to figure out who she truly is.

Part 1 of the QuickSilver Codex. Part 2, Quickening, was released in June.

About the Author

Kallysten’s most exciting accomplishment to date
was to cross a few thousand miles and an ocean to pursue (and catch!) the love
of her life. She has been writing for over fifteen years, and always enjoyed
sharing her stories and listening to the readers' reactions. After playing with
science fiction, short stories and poetry, she is now trying her hand, heart
and words at paranormal romance novels.

ManCandy Monday #9 :: 4th of July edition!

I can't believe half the year is already gone! Seems the older I get the faster time flies. But, I'll never be too old to not enjoy a good 4th of July BBQ! In honor of the 4th (coming up later this week) I'm getting patriotic, along with a few salty hunks of goodness who love the red, white and blue. Enjoy!

Happy 4th!!!
