Shukla spent her childhood in the folds of a close knit Punjabi family from Amritsar. Her father’s transferable job, took her family to Lahore. After a fortuitous escape from the troubles of Partition, her father’s postings gave her a Bharat Darshan, before eventually reaching Calcutta (now Kolkata) during its neo Independence heydays.

After a schooling in Amritsar, Madras (now Chennai) and Ooty, Shukla completed her BA, BT (now B. Ed) from Loreto College, Calcutta and then promptly found the love of her life and got busy with raising a family. Her life’s mission is teaching and care giving for children with special needs.

Over the years I was urged by family and friends to write and just could not. But I kept close to academic studies and did translation for 40 years from Hindi to English/ English to Hindi.

, in 2016 and became a spate at age 80 in May 2017 in a form of a cluster of 29 poems in Hindustani, 7 short stories and a novel Rano and Phulo , written in English by December 2017.
