Writer’s block . Just keep the intensity of the urge to write alive .
I had a writer’s block for over 40 years!
Over the years I was urged by family and friends to write and just could not. But I kept close to academic studies and did translation for 40 years from Hindi to English/ English to Hindi.
One day my secret yearning literally 'Burst forth in a stream of consciousness'
, in 2016 and became a spate at age 80 in May 2017 in a form of a cluster of 29 poems in Hindustani, 7 short stories and a novel Rano and Phulo , written in English by December 2017. From January 2018 to April another book was finished Floating Logs and by October a third begun titled Soul’s Rapture .

The best thing about being a writer is,specially if one is a fictional one, that though as an educated person one’s mind is broadened by the national and international history, art, culture, music , philosophy yet through the written word one has the freedom of expressing an individualistic angle . In that sense a unique insight is shared with others .

To the aspiring writer I can only say “ Follow your heart “ and don’t compare yourself with anyone . My confidence arose when I dropped the notion of “ Someone has or can write better than me “ . I am unique and my style / genre is also unlike others . I was sure that I will set an example to myself.

I am in the middle of another fictional historical romance with the backdrop of the immediate decades of post partition India upto 1990. The rehabilitation of displaced people becoming the Young India of the 20th century .This is a mystical romance placed in Lahore, Delhi and ending in Bombay . Its title is Soul’s Rapture .

I get inspired by the multifaceted world around me . The richness and beauty of its culture, art, spirituality and romance of relationships and my own rich fertile imagination.

The idea for my most recent book ,Floating Logs , placed in Calcutta, came from the speed at which time is flying . In the year 2017 of my 80th birthday , I began to reflect on the fact that the 21st century was already nearing the end of its 2nd decade . I realised that there is a perceptible change happening between the ethos of the 50 decades of ‘ Post-Partition nationally integrated India ‘ that I could remember and the recent decades .
So I was inspired to catch those times and styles of the 20th century in which I grew up by writing historical fictional romances in simple readable English .
