A Book’s Journey: Part 12

A Book's Journey: Reawakened Flames. Edition 1 vs Edition 2. Chapter 12.

Chapter 12 in E1 is Chapter 14 in E2. Although a lot of the content in the chapter stayed the same, a lot was also changed and cut out. There is content from Jayce’s perspective that had to be removed when I made it all from Aria’s perspective.

Reminder: My notes will be in italicized red font, and the text from E1 will be in black. E1 refers to edition one, and E2 refers to edition two.

Magnolia Quote Post

This is one of my favorite quotes from Magnolia. I wanted to portray a strong character who, even though she became disabled and couldn’t contribute to the pack like she used to, it didn’t stop her from finding purpose in different ways.

I used to feel hopeless,” Magnolia said. “Being more dependent on everyone frustrated me and tested my patience. I just wanted everything to go back to normal. But I can’t change the past. This is how my life is now. And the others love me and value me despite my disability.” Magnolia, Visions and Illusions

A Fantasy Author’s Search History: How long does a wooden bridge last?

A Fantasy Author’s Search History: How long does a wooden bridge last? I had needed to know how long different kinds of bridges last when I was deciding what material to make the bridge in Lythannen out of. Wooden bridges only last about 20 years or more, depending on the type of wood used, how it’s treated, and the maintenance. I did find that they had ways to treat wood in medieval times. And covered bridges can last up to 100 years.

A Fantasy Author’s Search History: When were spyglasses invented?

A Fantasy Author’s Search History: When were spyglasses invented?I don’t remember why I wanted to know when the spyglass was invented. But unfortunately, it was invented in the Netherlands in the early 1600s. October 2, 1608, is one date given, although the article called it a telescope. Not early enough for medieval times.

I tried to look up if there were medieval spyglasses just to see what would come up, but the first results were from a video game and otherwise, there was nothing.

Hardcover Books

When Amazon KDP finally unveiled the ability to publish hardcovers, I was so excited. I know the quality of the books could still use some work, but it’s so cool to see mine in hardcover. It makes being a published author feel more real having them in that format.

Why I Write Books

Picture of my books Reawakened Flames, Visions and Illusions, and A Stormy Path in hardcover and paperback.

Happy Indie Pride Day to all of the self-published authors out there! I wanted to talk a bit about why it is that I write books. I don’t know if I can give a complete and profound answer, but here’s my attempt.

When I was young, I fell in love with stories. That’s the main reason that I became a writer, the love of stories. I enjoy movies, television shows, music, and books, but the last one became especially special to me. There’s just something that sets books apart from other forms of...

A Fantasy Author’s Search History: What is the definition of arcane?

A Fantasy Author’s Search History. What does arcane mean?I came under the impression that arcane meant magical. I don’t know why. The actual definition means secret, obscure, and mysterious. I used it incorrectly in Reawakened Flames to mean magical, but I think it is still okay in how it is used.

A Fantasy Author’s Search History: When was the medieval period?

A Fantasy Author’s Search History. When was the medieval period? Perhaps the most important question when writing medieval fiction is to know when the real medieval time period was so that when you do research, you can be mostly accurate on what kinds of things are in the book. Of course, there’s always room to take some creative liberties.

From what I have looked up, the medieval period (Middle Ages/Dark Ages) seemed to last from about 500 to 1500 A.D. (or C.E.). I’ve also seen more exact numbers of 476 to 1492.

Journal Entries Part 8

Journal Entries Part 8

This entry was basically just providing little updates and containing more stepping on toes of copyrighted works. I had been able to get a lot of work done because it was Christmas break. During the school year, work on my personal writing was spotty at best. Also, I accidentally put the year of the entry as 2008. Do you ever do that, forget to use the new year number for a few weeks at the start of the year?

January 1, 2008

I am happy to report that the story is picking up speed....

Amelia Quote

There’s something about Amelia. She has a more complicated past than you think that will be revealed in due time.

“I learned a long time ago that when the right people come into your life, hold on to them. The wrong people need to be let go of, especially if you see the warning signs. Never fail to heed the warning signs.” Her voice faded, and she had a faraway look in her eyes. Amelia, A Stormy Path.
