The Thursday Throng author interview with Annie McDowall, award winning author of Charity Begins With Murder
‘Throng’ isn.- A multitude of persons or of living beings pressing or pressed into a close body or assemblage; a crowd.
Welcome to this weeks Thursday Throng author interview with lovely Annie McDowell, in fact it was Anne that (although she doesn’t realise this) spurred me into finally getting cracking on my blog whilst enjoying a wonderful lunch with her and the amazing Tamara Essex discussing all things book and social media. After I’d read her book ‘Charity Begins with Murder’ it got me th...

The Top 10 Facebook Pages that Authors and Writers Should Be Following
Whilst I have mixed feelings about Facebook, especially in light of the way they are now requiring Page’s to pay to promote their updates to all their ‘Fans’ (see this article for more info if you’re interested: posts-on-facebook-pages-not-showing-to-everyone-that-likes-you) it is still a force to be reckoned with and provides some great benefits to people who become active on it to support their business.
The trick with Facebook is to use it for what it is, a networking tool and yes, Pages c...

How Authors and Writers can use LinkedIn Effectively – Applying LinkedIn Applications
This is the second of my mini series that aims to give writers and authors a better understanding of how they can use LinkedIn more effectively to promote themselves and their work. Last week we looked at how to create a killer profile that contains everything you need to stand out. This week I was to focus on two other areas: Apps for your profile and one of the two real powerhouses of the LinkedIn platform, Groups.
Of course, this article will give some great to tips to everyone who wants to...

Marketing for Authors and Writers
If you’ve followed this blog for a few weeks now then you probably will have noticed that alongside my writing I’m a social media strategist by profession. I have my own web design and social media management company and I’m forever banging on about how to do this, that or the other when it comes to promoting our books. Now, this doesn’t make me an expert by any means but I thought that perhaps it might be worth sharing on a single page the various posts that might be loosely termed ‘marketin...
“Epicurean” is The Weekly Word – how would you use this word?
This week the Weekly Word is Epicurean, I picked it because I was reminded of it when picking out relishes and pickles in the supermarket yesterday and yet it’s a word we rarely see. As usual, I’d like to challenge readers to find anunusual, imaginative orcorrect usage of the word EPICUREAN in a single sentence or a paragraph, but first a little more about what it means and how it is used in language. If you would like to see earlier Weekly Word’s you can find them all listed here: the-weekly...

Fiction Central and Friday Fictioneers
Up until very recently I’ve only ever written factual, how to and non-fiction works; then I discovered a completely different voice and found ‘FICTION‘. In fact I’ve now completed my first novel as well.
I also thought that I’d only ever write fiction if it were full length works, but I was introduced to something called Flash Fiction by the amazing Madison Woods and now take part in Friday Fictioneers as often as I can.
This section of my blog is to indulge this side of character which I’m sl...
The Thursday Throng
‘Throng’ n. – A multitude of persons or of living beings pressing or pressed into a close body or assemblage; a crowd.
This section of the Woman on the Edge of Reality blog is called The Thursday Throng in honour of the throng that waits eagerly outside the book store when a new author is doing a book signing event or appearance.
It takes the form of a ‘Meet the Author’ online event with some information about our author’s latest book and an interview. Some authors also offer giveaways of their...
The Weekly Word
With the Weekly Word I like to indulge a side of myself that is fascinated by language and especially the way it sounds when you roll it around inside your head. I often wonder who originally came up with the words that we all use, I mean someone had to invent the word ‘chair‘ or even ‘Antidisestablishmentarianism‘.
I want to challenge readers to find unusual, imaginative orcorrect usage of the words that I choose each week in a single sentence or a paragraph, encouraging them to use them here...

Friday Fictioneers is a weekly challenge to writers and bloggers set by the amazing Madison Woods on her blog which you can find at MadisonWoods.wordpress.com.
