Menhir dit Pierre Saint-Julien

A 3.5 metre tall menhir, stood outside the main entrance to St Julien Cathedral, Le Mans, in the department of Sarthe. A truly lovely stone, made from a very heavily stratified, and vividly coloured rock. From certain angles, and in the right light, it looks for all the world to be a man dressed in hooded cloak stood outside the entrance of this sacred place.

St John the Baptist's Well (Helmsdale)

A stone built well-house sitting beside a path along the River Helmsdale which is on the A9 south of Wick. Water from the well flows across the track and into the river. The well is located just across the river from the site of St John the Baptist’s Chapel, the probable remains of which consist of a low earth bank in a burial ground.

Horse Rock Art Panels

An easily accessible rock petroglyph site next to a wooden corral on Route 162, about 0.2 miles east of Bluff UT town center. The rock art, on a large boulder face at the end of the parking area, is a melange of horse images as well as elk and probably deer. All are in good condition. The horse images are from the historic period, as domesticated horses were not introduced until the Spanish arrived in the 16th and 17th centuries CE. There are also a few scattered abstract images that could be prehistoric.

Trattle Howe

On Blakey Ridge about 400m (¼ of a mile) to the south of Blakey Junction is an old sandstone quarry whose northern edge is the ‘Site of’ a bronze age round barrow, named Trattle Howe on historical OS maps. The 1857 OS map shows the barrow still all in one piece to the immediate north and still separate from the quarry.

Carn Biga 2

Although vandalised this is still a very impressive structure along with its sister cairn Carn Biga I (seen here to the right of this photo). These two cairns stand out very strongly in the surrounding area and can be seen on the skyline from the source of the Severn to the west and from Carn Fach Bugeilyn cairn to the NW.
